Dr. Keith: 'Sex and the City' Has Real Life Themes

The release of the "Sex and the City_ The Movie" has a Trekkie aspect to it -- something like the reverence with which fans of "Star Trek" greet each new installment. As many as 70 percent of women who say they will be seeing the movie will also be attending social gatherings inspired by the release, at which they can debate the series' best and worst moments, shake their heads at the brashness of the characters and don the fashions made famous by "City" designers, ie. Manolo Blahnik shoes. The fans will be, by and large, women who have never traveled the orbits of the characters -- the storied streets of Manhattan made that much more alluring by the bold sexuality of Carrie and Company.

Miley Cyrus' Offer From Playboy: Is the Age of Sexual Consent Being Challenged?

In the wake of 15-year-old Miley Cyrus posing in makeup and not much else for Vanity Fair, Hugh Hefner has stated that he would like to see Miley pose naked for Playboy-when she turns 18. I believe Hefner's offer, albeit cloaked in the disclaimer that Miley has to be legal to strip for him, may herald a challenge to the current age of sexual consent-which is between 16 and 18 in almost all states, lower only in South Carolina (and only when the sexual partners are both young).

Postpartum Depression: It Happens to Dads, Too

During my sixteen years practicing psychiatry I have treated dozens of men experiencing major depression after fathering a child. These men have come to my office with symptoms like low mood, tearfulness, decreased self-esteem, impaired sleep and decreased concentration. Some have even struggled with suicidal ideation. It was enough to make me suggest to my publisher a year or so ago that we consider my writing a book on male postpartum depression.
