Ancient cave discovery may rewrite the timeline of humanity's earliest fire use
Scientists studying South Africa's Wonderwerk Cave say they uncovered evidence suggesting early human ancestors were using and maintaining fire as many as 1.79 million years ago.
Using a new technique to identify signs of burning in fossilized bones, researchers believe the findings offer fresh insight into how early humans transported and maintained naturally occurring fire long before they learned to create it themselves.
