Fort Worth Zoo announces birth of massive Asian elephant calf in historic milestone

The Fort Worth Zoo in Texas announced the birth of a healthy male Asian elephant calf that quickly stood, nursed and joined the facility鈥檚 celebrated four-generation elephant herd.

The Fort Worth Zoo announced the birth of a healthy 285-pound male Asian elephant calf born at 5:31 a.m. on April 1 to mother Bluebell and father Romeo. Zoo officials said the 36-inch-tall, 285-pound Asian elephant calf was standing within six minutes of birth and nursing less than an hour later.
