Tim McGraw stood firm against industry elites who tried to cancel his 'controversial' hit

Tim McGraw is looking back at the most "controversial" song of his career.

During a recent interview on "The Tim Ferriss Show," the 58-year-old country singer shared which song he had to fight to include on one of his albums, and why it was such a big risk.

"'Indian Outlaw' — because I had that song for my first album and nobody liked it," he explained when asked for an example of a song of his he thought was "lightning in a bottle." "The label didn’t like it. [Producer] James Stroud didn’t like it. Byron [Gallimore, his longtime producer and collaborator] liked it, but I couldn’t talk James into letting me record it and I couldn’t talk the label into it."

According to the musician, the label told him "it was too controversial, and it was a bad song," going as far as telling McGraw "it wasn't country music" and would not get played on the radio.

He recalled the first night he heard the song, in the Hall of Fame Lounge and Hotel in Nashville, when he bumped into songwriters Tommy and Max D. Barnes, who played the song for him live.

"I heard it that first night and I started playing it immediately," McGraw said. "Learned it and started playing it in all the clubs around town, the honky-tonks around town, and when we would travel and play clubs all over the country, I was playing that song, and we’d end up having to play it two or three times a night, four times a night, because people loved it so much."

Due to his love of the song and the praise it was receiving at his shows, McGraw pleaded with his record label to include it on his debut album, but because he "didn’t have any say-so on the first album," it was left off.

When it came time to cut his second album, "Not a Moment Too Soon," the singer insisted it be included, noting, "I felt like this is either going to work in a huge way or it’s going to ruin my career forever."

"Luckily, it worked," McGraw added. "And I think that what kept me from being just sort of a novelty act with this sort of funky, weird song that made some noise was being able to come right behind it with ‘Don’t Take the Girl.’ I’ll forever believe that the combination of those two songs is what set my career in motion and gave me momentum that I probably couldn’t have gotten any other way."

The song went on to become McGraw's first top 10 country hit and went platinum.

McGraw touched on the controversy of "Indian Outlaw," explaining, "I understood why it was controversial, because it was stereotypical, and it was sort of a play on Native American stereotypes. And there was a lot of controversy around it, and I understood the controversy and I wasn't upset about the controversy."

He added, "In fact, I met with several Native American leaders. Some liked the song, some didn't like the song. And my answer was, ‘Look, I understand what your concerns are. The song’s not meant to be that way, I understand your concerns. My opinion, if you need to go after me in order to raise attention and awareness, by all means, use my song for that. If you like it or don't like it, if you can make something good happen from it, then by all means, I'm not going to be offended.'"

The singer said that when he plays at Native American casinos, he offers to take the song out of his set, but "99 percent of the time, ‘That’s why we hired you, is to sing that song.' So they love it. So it's been really good to me."

In October 2025, the singer opened up about a rough patch in his career following a series of injuries, which left him wondering if he would ever perform again, adding he nearly quit his career.

"I've had four back surgeries and double knee replacements, just in the last couple of years," he told the crowd at his concert in Highland, California at the time.

He later added, "And this spring, before I had my final back surgery, things were getting really bad, so I was seriously contemplating and figuring out how to walk away. I didn't want to, but I didn't think it was going to get better."

McGraw later shared that he has since gotten better and that while he was recovering he wrote the song, "King Rodeo," which explores themes of aging and the struggles that come with it.

For decades, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have navigated the ins and outs of Hollywood with grace and humility. Now, their nephew, rising star Timothy Wayne, is following in their footsteps in hopes of continuing an unforgettable legacy within country music.

In an exclusive interview with ӣ��Ƶ Digital, Wayne, a 22-year-old Tennessee native, opens up about his famous uncle and aunt and shares how their guidance and advice have begun to shape his own career in the ever-changing industry.

"Uncle Tim and Aunt Faith were really the reason why I had never gone into music before and never really thought about it," said Wayne, who recently released his live rendition of the classic song, "Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow up to Be Cowboys."

"Not in a bad way, it's not like they were keeping me from doing it. They encouraged me to do a lot of stuff. But it was mainly just when you grow up watching giants like that on the stage, it's incredibly hard to look at yourself in the mirror and say, 'I can do that, too.'"

"I have watched my uncle and aunt perform since I was a little kid, and I have watched them command crowds and command respect while still being extremely humble people and being nice to everybody around them," he added. "Growing up watching that, they were two people that I really looked up to, but at the same time I was like, 'I can't do what they do.'"

Wayne, who recently served as one of the opening acts on McGraw's "Standing Room Only Tour," said he never thought he'd be pursuing music in the same capacity as his famous family.

"I had just started getting into recording and [Tim] was showing [Faith] a song, and then I got a text from both of them like, ‘You should really do this.’ And we had that conversation, they believed in me and they believed that I could do it. Then I started, and then my mom and dad had always believed in me, and so I started having to believe in myself," said Wayne.

Like most artists, McGraw and Hill have had their share of professional and personal setbacks, including addiction struggles and health issues — some of which almost ended careers. However, the couple persevered with humbleness, and continue to be a prime example to young musicians — especially Wayne.

"Patience is a key thing," Wayne said when it comes to the best advice he's received from McGraw and Hill on navigating the spotlight. "You're going to run into loud people… you're going to run into time schedules getting messed up, you're going to run into all that stuff. And the best thing to do is just to remain patient, remain calm, because acting any other way than that is not going to help."

Wayne, who is gearing up to graduate from Louisiana State University next year, said McGraw and Hill have been an incredible resource for him and his budding career, but he's determined to pave his own way.

"When I first started, and I mean it's still the same, I still have the same mindset. I didn't want Tim involved at all because I wanted to stand on my own two feet, for lack of a better term. But I mean, it didn't take long for everybody to figure it out that we were related, and I just kind of had to embrace it," said Wayne, who has shared the stage with McGraw, Lee Brice, Justin Moore, Clay Walker and Jake Owen.

"So I made an agreement with him that he could be my producer, and he made the exact same agreement with me," Wayne continued. "We agreed that he could be my producer, but there was no other help. He's my producer first and foremost, that's it. If I'm going to do this, I have to do it on my own. I have to forge my own path."

"Of course, he's there to help with advice and anything that I need I can ask for," he added. "It's a resource that I do have. But as far as reputation goes and singing songs and everything else I have to do, I have to forge that path. And it's been really fun, but a lot of attention gets drawn to it. Usually I get asked, 'What's it like having him as an uncle?' I'm like, 'He's just like an uncle. He's just like an uncle that always sings.'"

Wayne said his own mother and father have encouraged him to do the same.

"The reference that my mom and dad always said is the separation of church and state," he said. "So I am my own artist. I want to be my own artist. I want to be my own person. But of course, I do have that resource, and it's not lost on me that it is an absolute blessed resource that I have. I mean, 30-something years of knowledge of the music industry, and he's my producer."

"But I try to stand on my own two feet and try to forge my own path as much as I can," said Wayne.

Wayne, who signed his first major record deal during his sophomore year, has already released four original tracks: "That’d Be You", "Guy With A Guitar" and "God Made A Country Boy," accompanied by Wayne’s first official music video, and "Good Ole Boys Girl."

"I have a lot of pressure because maybe I don't reach it, make it to Tim and Faith's level, but I want to get close," he said. "I want to do the best I can to build my own legacy, but to also make sure that my legacy reflects how good their legacy was at the same time."

"From them, there's not really much pressure," he added. "They're just like, do what you're doing to do it well," he added.

HIGHLAND, California - Tim McGraw opened up about nearly quitting his career after dealing with a series of health setbacks.

The country star, 58, got candid about his struggles during his Saturday tour stop in Highland, California, at the Yaamava' Theater.

"I've had four back surgeries and double knee replacements, just in the last couple of years," McGraw, who is married to fellow artist Faith Hill, said on stage.

The "Blind Side" actor said right before his most recent back surgery this past spring, "Things were getting really bad," with the star "getting depressed over it," which made him consider walking away from his career.

"The doctor who did my double knee replacement is here tonight," McGraw said.

The "Humble and Kind" singer asked his doctor to stand up for applause. "Dr. Chen, where you at? There he is!"

"And my wife has been going through quite a bit of surgeries – she's had five neck surgeries, and she's had a couple of hand surgeries. Her hand surgeon, Dr. Rose, is here tonight," also asking him to stand up for applause.

"So, part one of that story. The reason I wanted to tell that part is because the doctors are here. The second part of that story, is, after going through all of that for a couple of years and getting depressed over it and all of those things — stuff not going right," he explained.

"But it's gotten better. So, during that process, I had this idea for this song that sort of dealt with facing age and facing all that stuff that comes along with it," before singing the song he mentioned, called "King Rodeo."

McGraw is set to hit the stage on Nov. 1 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and perform three nights in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace in December.

In January 2025, McGraw stepped down from a Netflix rodeo series he was set to star and produce in, according to Deadline.

The "1883" actor reportedly needed back surgery and needed to recover, the outlet's source reported at the time.

He was supposed to play a bull rider, a physically demanding role.

McGraw is no stranger to overcoming obstacles.

The "Live Like You Were Dying" singer has been sober since 2008, after battling alcohol addiction.

He credited Hill, whom he has been married to since 1996, for helping him overcome his addiction.

In 2021, McGraw told Esquire that he realized he needed help when he drank alcohol first thing in the morning.

"I remember a moment when I was getting out of bed and going to the liquor cabinet and taking a big shot at 8:00 in the morning and thinking, 'I have to wake up the kids.'"

McGraw and Hill, who most recently celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary, share three daughters: Gracie, Maggie and Audrey.

"I went straight to my wife and said, 'This is where I'm at.' I was scared. She just grabbed me and hugged me and changed my life," he recalled.

The country sensation said she told him: "'You're not scared of anything,'" to which he said, "'Ehhh, one thing – I'm looking right at it now,'" referring to his wife.

McGraw and Hill first met when she opened for his 1996 Spontaneous Combustion Tour.

The couple married in October 1996 and have collaborated on songs and tours together.

They most recently starred together in the "Yellowstone" prequel series, "1883," as James and Margaret Dutton — the great-grandparents of the Dutton family.

The series aired from 2021 to 2022.

The country music icon shared the inspiration behind his decision to shave his head, a hairstyle he showed off during a stroll in Nashville this July in photos obtained by People. He also explained that it was the opinion of a certain someone that made him want to commit to the change.

"It was so hot this summer, and I just decided to do it," he said to E! News at the iHeartRadio Festival on Sept. 20.

The country superstar revealed in a 2023 interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that without his wife, his life and career might’ve already been over.

"I guarantee you, had I not gotten married to Faith at 29 years old, A, I probably would've ran my career into the ground, and B, I would've died already with my career into the ground, one or the other, and it wouldn't have ever been where it's at now," McGraw said.

Tim McGraw cancels upcoming Colorado performance due to back surgery

Country music icon Tim McGraw is taking a necessary pause from the stage as he recovers from recent back surgery.

McGraw, 57, was forced to pull out of his upcoming performance at the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) event in Colorado, which was scheduled for July 21.

"Cross Canadian Ragweed will step in for Tim McGraw as he recovers from back surgery to open the Last Cowboy Standing Show on July 21 in Fort Collins — and we couldn't be more thrilled," PBR announced in a statement on their official Instagram page.

The American country-rock band reunited after a lengthy 15-year hiatus and shared how ecstatic they were to take the stage, as they sent their well-wishes to McGraw.

"The band is back together and ready to bring the house down in an unforgettable night of world-class music and the greatest bull riding on earth. You won't want to miss it," the announcement read.

"We're sending our very best to Tim for a quick recovery and hope to see him at a future PBR event."

It’s unknown why McGraw needed back surgery.

Reps for McGraw did not immediately respond to ӣ��Ƶ Digital’s request for comment.

The "One Bad Habit" crooner’s canceled performance comes after he previously stepped away from a starring role in an untitled bull-riding show set to air on Netflix, according to Deadline.

The outlet reported that he was set to star and executive produce the show, but a source claimed that he stepped back because he needed to have back surgery, which would require recovery time.

Meanwhile, in May, the country star shared a health update during a podcast interview.

"I can tell you that after double knee replacements and three back surgeries and now a torn rotator cuff and a ruptured disc, all the things that are going on, there were times this year that I thought this might be it," he said on the "TL’s Road House" podcast. "This might be time to hang it up."

McGraw shared at the time that he had to do his fitness routine and workouts carefully.

"I can't move quickly, there's no turning real quick to do something," he remarked. "Everything has to be very intentional; everything that I do has to be very methodical. I have to do cold plunges, I have to do infrared saunas. I have to do massages."

The country star kicked off his Standing Room Only Tour on March 14, 2024, and has scheduled dates until October 25, 2025.

Beyond studying the Civil War and exhibiting oral proficiency in Italian, one LSU student spent this year scribbling his name on more than just the back of desks.

Timothy Wayne, an up-and-coming country music artist, followed in the footsteps of his uncle, country music legend Tim McGraw, and signed his first major record deal with UMG and Capitol Records Nashville.

"I always wanted to do it," Wayne told ӣ��Ƶ Digital. "I loved being on stage. I never got stage fright, loved being on stage. I just never thought I could, and then once I actually had people tell me that I could, and they believed in me, I had to start believing in myself."

"It’s kind of like time slowed down while I was signing," he added.

Wayne, 21, has released two original songs, "God Made a Country Boy" and "Guy With a Guitar" and was invited to perform on the Louisiana state float at the Rose Bowl Parade Jan. 1, 2025, by the lieutenant governor of Louisiana.

"I thought somebody was playing a joke on me," Wayne said of being asked to perform. "I didn’t know much about the Rose Bowl beforehand, but I knew that Lainey Wilson had done it previously."

Despite having a lifelong passion for music with inspiration from Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson and, thanks to his Italian grandmother’s influence, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra, Wayne only started to truly focus on music a few years ago.

Programmed to create his own mastery of music, Wayne is produced by McGraw and his and Faith Hill’s producer, Byron Gallimore. But he writes his own music, coordinates with bandmates himself, tells his own story through vocals and collaborates with other songwriters in Nashville.

"He's the biggest supporter of this whole idea," Wayne told ӣ��Ƶ Digital of McGraw. "When I first really started getting into music later in high school, he told me, he said, ‘I'll produce you, but that's it. You have to forge your own path.’"

"I love being his nephew," Wayne said. "I always make a joke that he works for me. I was like, ‘Tim McGraw is my employee.’"

As for his management, Wayne credits his mom and McGraw’s sister, Sandy Howard, for taking on the brunt of the workload.

"My mom takes a lot of the stress off my back," he said. "She makes everything go smoothly up to the show and after the show."

He added that she, along with his father, imparted '80s hairband rock ‘n’ roll like Kiss and Poison into his preferred genre of music and helped him identify the sound he loves.

"I’m a huge rock ‘n’ roll fan," Wayne said. "Country music is first and foremost storytelling, but I like to add that extra oomph when it's not a love story."

Wayne put his talents on display at McGraw’s "Standing Room Only" tour earlier this year when he jumped on the bus ride to six shows.

"Touring was not long enough," he said.

Wayne isn’t done joining country music stars on stage. He was invited to perform with Lee Brice in 2025.

"When I got the call that I was going to be invited to come and do his ‘You, Me and My Guitar’ show in Mississippi in February, I was over the moon."

Faith Hill wished Tim McGraw a happy birthday with a special Instagram post.

In honor of the country superstar's 57th birthday Wednesday, Hill posted an Instagram video, thanking "GOD and [McGraw's mom] Betty [he was] born 57 years ago this very day."

The video featured clips of McGraw playing around backstage and sneaking up on people while on tour with what appears to be a Nerf toy gun. It also included clips of him portraying his character from Paramount's "1883."

"To Tim’s fans, A rare glimpse into the life of a grown man living his inner young boy," she wrote in the caption. "I thought you would love this. I laughed so hard when I saw it. Tim’s team put this together and allowed me to use it….the perks of being Mrs. McGraw!!!!!!"

The country music power couple has been together since they started dating in 1996, getting married later that year in October. Since then, they have welcomed three daughters: Gracie, 26, Maggie, 25, and Audrey, 22.

"I don’t know if there’s a key. We always say we’re 27 years coming up, it’s like 96 in show business," McGraw told "Entertainment Tonight Canada" in August about their long-lasting marriage. "It’s almost like dog years."

While McGraw wasn't sure if there was one thing that made their relationship work, he told the outlet he and Hill "made a commitment" in the early days of their relationship they "wouldn’t just walk out the door when problems arose."

McGraw has also been open and honest in the past about his struggles with sobriety and how Hill has helped him stay sober over the past 15 years.

"She's always been my rock. She's my rock in everything that I do. I don't think I could stand up straight without leaning on her in everything that I do," McGraw said during an interview with Yahoo Entertainment in August.

His love for Hill is evident in his song, "Her," which he wrote specifically for his wife.

On April 26, Billy Joel serenaded his ex-wife, Christie Brinkley, during his concert at Madison Square Garden.

In video obtained by ӣ��Ƶ Digital, Brinkley is seen swaying back and forth to "Uptown Girl," a song that Joel wrote about her in 1983. She was broadcast on the jumbotron for the whole crowd to see.

Pictures seemingly show Joel singing passionately to Brinkley.

In 2010, Joel confirmed that "Uptown Girl" was written about Brinkley (she did appear in the music video), although he explained that there was more to the story.

"I wasn't even dating Christie when I started writing the song; I was dating Elle [Macpherson]," Joel said on "The Howard Stern Show." He remembered a moment when he was surrounded by Brinkley, Macpherson and Whitney Houston while he was working on the song.

"That's why I started writing a song called ‘Uptown Girls.’ It was plural. I couldn't believe, you know, the situation I was in," he said of having a bevy of beauties near him.

Joel, 74, said when he and Macpherson went their separate ways, the nature of the song changed because of his relationship with Brinkley. "And then I started dating Christie, and rather than it [being] about all these different girls, she became the ‘Uptown Girl.’ I started writing it about one person."

Their love story is one for the books.

In 2023, Tim McGraw opened up about a love song dedicated to his wife of nearly 28 years, Faith Hill.

"Tim McGraw is one of those artists that you forget how many decades he has had hits and has been successful and continues to elevate," she told ӣ��Ƶ Digital at Sunday night's CMT Music Awards.

She added, "It's such a joy for me, I'm a ‘90s country fan through and through, I grew up on ’90s country, so to be able to be on tour with one of the pioneers… and he is the sweetest, kindest, most humble, genuine person."

He's very humble and not that you don't know that about him, I'm sure that everybody does, but just being another artist, I feel like he champions young artists and really tries to make them feel welcome and really is paying attention to what we're all doing in the next generation."

Pearce continued, "I think, not everybody does that, and I think he knows what he's doing."

The "What He Didn't Do" singer also praised McGraw's "impressive" physique, while honoring him as one of the biggest artists of all time in the country music universe.

"I mean, Tim's one of the biggest artists of all time in our format. I think he's always had great songs and always let the song lead, which I think is something that's really important in country music," Pearce said.

Tim McGraw is sharing his family's unique holiday traditions.

During an interview on Audacy's "Katie & Company" in their "Superstar Power Hour," the "Humble and Kind" singer spoke about a fun family tradition his daughters started, which he looks forward to every year.

"They’ve created this theme night thing that we do. It’s based on TV shows or movies or books sometimes, and they’ll pick a theme, and then we’ll have a dinner. The food has to fit the theme as well," McGraw explained.

"We’ll put all these characters in a hat, and everybody has to draw a character, and then you have to dress up as that character. But you can only use things that you can find around the house."

The singer elaborated, saying his daughters invite all their friends to join them for dinner, noting it's fun to watch them run around his house trying to find accessories to match the theme. They've gone through quite a few popular themes.

"We did ‘Game of Thrones.' One night, we did ‘The Great.' We did Harry Potter," McGraw said.

Since the family has already tackled many movies and TV shows, McGraw says he is "curious to see what they come up with this year."

The Grammy Award-winning musician shares three daughters with his wife, Faith Hill — Gracie, Maggie Elizabeth and Audrey Caroline.

Their youngest daughter, Audrey, plays a special role in one of their other Christmas traditions.

"Dec. 6 is her birthday, so we always decorate our tree on her birthday," McGraw explained. "So, that's one of our traditions."

He has also found new ways to incorporate some traditions from his childhood into his life as a father.

"I always cook. My mom's Italian, so I grew up on Christmas Eve having pasta for Christmas Eve dinner. I make spagetti and meatballs every New Year's Eve, and we usually have it around noon or 1, so all the family we have that lives in our area all show up," he said on the podcast.

"We usually have 20 or 30 people … and then we play games after and karaoke. We always have karaoke set up. And then I have to listen to my daughters doing two hours of ‘Hamilton.’"

During the interview, he called the holidays a "busy" time because all his daughters are back home. Earlier this year, McGraw shared on Audacy's "Rob + Holly Show" how hard it was for him to help move his daughter Gracie cross country.

"I drove my daughter to LA when she moved out there and drove cross country with her. I took all the seats out of my Cadillac Escalade and loaded it up with all of her stuff," he explained. "When I dropped her off, I mean, I just lost it. … And then I had to drive home all by myself. … I was crying the whole time."

While it was hard for McGraw to let his daughter go, he also told the outlet it led to a song based on the experience for his 17th studio album, "Standing Room Only." It came about when he called his friend, guitarist Bobby Minner, and had "a heart-to-heart about dropping [Gracie] off," which inspired Minner to write the song for him.

Hill and McGraw have kept both their marriage and the lives of their children private for the most part. However, as their daughters get older, they continue to step into the spotlight every so often.

Gracie had a recurring role on Tyler Perry's series, "If Loving You Is Wrong" from 2018 to 2020 and has received praise for posting videos of herself singing on social media, including one of her covering "I'm Not That Girl" from the hit Broadway musical, "Wicked." She was also featured on her dad's 2015 hit "Here Tonight."

"They're the life of the party every time they're around," McGraw told Entertainment Tonight in August about his daughters. "They just inspire us in so many ways. Country stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have consistently maintained a united front as husband and wife, and as musical collaborators. Married for nearly three decades, the musicians have headlined three tours together.

Despite personal and professional triumphs, McGraw said some of their "biggest disagreements" involve their profession.

"I mean we're two different artists. We don't always agree, musically. In fact, some of our biggest disagreements come when we're putting a tour together," McGraw admitted during Time Magazine's "Person of the Week" podcast.

"Faith's very type-A," he explained. "I'm a mess. I'll throw clothes everywhere. I mean she's always, constantly on me about picking my clothes up. I mean, I spent 30 years living in a hotel… In and out. So I'm just constantly throwing stuff everywhere and she's like, ‘You got to clean up after yourself.’"

McGraw admits that his personality shifts when performing is involved. "When I'm putting a show together, I'm very type-A. I want everything right, in the right place at the right time… And Faith wants to free-wheel it a lot. Just because she's so talented. And she [doesn't] want to be constrained. So some of the times, we knock heads a little bit, but we figure it out," he clarified. "We always have a great time touring together."

Despite their differences, McGraw maintains that he and Hill have each other's backs. "She's my biggest fan, I'm her biggest fan. I play music for her all the time… Like I said, we don't always agree. There's songs that I've loved and put on an album that she goes, ‘Ah, I don’t think I would put that on an album.' And vice versa. There's songs that I've loved that she' didn't record that I thought, ‘Man you should’ve recorded that.'"

"But she's had enough success that I've been proven wrong so many times that I learned to trust her completely on what she wants to do. And she's learned to trust me on what I want to do."

When the couple first got together, McGraw says they were acutely aware of the "tough" circumstances in front of them.

"We knew that it wasn't gonna be easy for two people who do the same thing to stay together and stay together for a long time and raise a family and we had a lot of long talks before we got married. And we knew what kind of family we wanted. We also knew, and made a promise to each other, that we weren't gonna run out the door at the first sight of trouble. That we were gonna tough things out."

The "Standing Room Only" singer also joked that the secret to a successful marriage was "saying yes ma'am a lot." He also gave practical advice to couples that have overlapping professions.

"Understand that you're different," he recommended. "I think that's the biggest deal. Just don't think because you're an artist your spouse has to be an artist like you are. Understand their own individuality and the kind of stuff that they like to do and the kind of ways they like to do things. And what gets their artistic juices flowing may be different than what gets yours flowing. And if you don't recognize that and pay attention to that, then you can maybe run into some problems.

The country star took to his Instagram to celebrate their 27th wedding anniversary, posting a photo of the two of them on the night they met.

"This is the very first picture ever taken of us, the very first time we ever met back in spring of 1994. This was backstage of the "New Faces" show at the Country Radio Seminar......I fell for you in an instant," he wrote.

"I fall for you everyday, every time you walk into the room, every time I see you in our 3 beautiful daughter's smiles. I just keep falling and always will. Happy anniversary my love!"

Tim McGraw is still head over heels for Faith Hill after 27 years of marriage.

The country star called his wife his "best friend" in a public love note for her 56th birthday on Thursday.

"Happy birthday to the love of my life, my partner and my best friend," McGraw wrote on his Instagram along with a glamorous photo of Hill at an event.

The couple’s 21-year-old daughter, Audrey McGraw, commented on the post, "The most beautiful. Inside and outside." They also share two other daughters, Gracie, 26, and Maggie, 25.

In August, the "I Like it, I Love it" singer credited his wife with keeping both his career and him alive amid his 15-year sobriety journey.

"I guarantee you, had I not gotten married to Faith at 29 years old: A, I probably would've ran my career into the ground, and B, I would've died already with my career into the ground, one or the other, and it wouldn't have ever been where it's at now," he told Apple Music host Zane Lowe via People.

He also recently told People that they have frequent date nights now that they're empty-nesters.

"We’ll cook a big dinner at home and light candles all over and turn ’80s music on," McGraw revealed. "We try to have those often."

The "This Kiss" songstress gushed over McGraw after the release of his new album "Standing Room Only" in August.

"Still after all this time and so many albums. You never cease to amaze me. You are an absolute master of your art. In every way. Congratulations!!!!!! My love. We are so proud of you," she wrote. Earlier in the summer, she also admired his picture on the cover of his album: "Can you be any hotter," she wondered with three fire emojis before signing it, "Love you Wife."

The country power couple first met in 1994 and fell in love while on tour together in 1996. McGraw even popped the question before going on stage at a country music festival that year and they were married by that October.

On their 25th wedding anniversary in 2021, McGraw shared in a video on social media that he had proposed to her multiple times, but she kept saying no because she was unsure about marrying another country star.

He revealed that he tried one more time before heading on stage at a festival, and while she didn’t give her answer right away, "I came off the stage and went back into my dressing room and Faith wasn't there, but I looked at the mirror. In lipstick it said, 'Yes! I'm gonna be your wife.’ And we still have that mirror. And it was the best day of my life, that's for sure."

Carly Pearce – the host of the 2023 ACM Honors – is opening up about her friendship with country music legend Tim McGraw.

In an interview with ӣ��Ƶ Digital, Pearce revealed how McGraw has stayed consistent since starting his country music career in the '90s. McGraw is being honored with the Icon Award at the pre-taped event, which will air on FOX Monday night.

"I think he's just as hard of a worker now as he was when he first started, and he's also just a really kind person," Pearce began. "He's very humble and not that you don't know that about him, I'm sure that everybody does, but just being another artist, I feel like he champions young artists and really tries to make them feel welcome and really is paying attention to what we're all doing in the next generation."

Pearce continued, "I think, not everybody does that, and I think he knows what he's doing."

The "What He Didn't Do" singer also praised McGraw's "impressive" physique, while honoring him as one of the biggest artists of all time in the country music universe.

Carly and Tim are joining forces and heading on tour in 2024. "My '90s country heart is beaming to be on this tour, so it's very, very exciting," Pearce said.

In July, McGraw announced his Standing Room Only Tour, which kicks off in March in Jacksonville, Florida. Pearce will join McGraw for all shows and the tour concludes in Phoenix, Arizona, in June 2024.

Pearce told ӣ��Ƶ Digital she's grateful that McGraw thought of her to join him on tour, but she is hoping to form a friendship with his wife, Faith Hill.

"I just really want to be best friends with Faith, so I'll let you know how that goes," Pearce joked.

As for the ACM Honors, this is the third consecutive year that Pearce will be hosting the ceremony, and she will perform her hit song "What He Didn’t Do" with co-writer Emily Shackelton.

Another honoree at the 16th annual ACM Honors is Chris Stapleton, who Pearce praised as being "unapologetically himself" to ӣ��Ƶ Digital.

"Something that you don't know about Chris is he has the sweetest and most talented wife ever, which I'm sure people know that too, but I love her. She and I have become dear friends, and she's the whole reason that I have this collaboration with him. So thank you, Morgane," Pearce said of Stapleton's wife, Morgane.

"I think what Chris means to country music is he was able to unapologetically be himself," she continued. "He's never tried to chase radio. He's never tried to put his artistry in a box or fence it in. He is one of the greatest singers of all time. I think he's such a huge part of the reason that artists like myself, who maybe are a little left of center in a way that they write songs, were able to have a chance because he's broadened the country music umbrella in a time where it was very pop, and now we're seeing it turn very hard the other way."

Pearce concluded, "I think he was on the forefront of that. So, I mean, he's my favorite singer as far as a vocalist probably ever. If I'm being honest, he makes me feel things that I am just – I continue to be impressed with the way that his vocal presence just knocks me over."

Aside from hosting the ACM Honors in Nashville, Tennessee, Pearce recently released her song, "We Don't Fight Anymore," which features Stapleton on the track.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the song, Pearce told ӣ��Ƶ Digital, "I've always been somebody that I think writes from real life experience and real stories, and I enjoy kind of giving people those uncomfortable moments that maybe nobody wants to talk about."

She continued, "I think that this song really captures a moment that I think if people were honest, that they would admit to you that they're either in that moment in their current relationship or they've been there, and I want people to feel things. This song, when I wrote it, it made me feel something real. And I think I was meant to tell this story, to make people be honest with themselves."

The 2023 ACM Honors will be broadcast Monday, Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. ET on FOX and available to be streamed on Hulu the following day.

They like it, they love it – and they want more of it. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are enjoying their frequent date nights together especially now that they're empty-nesters.

"We’ll cook a big dinner at home and light candles all over and turn ’80s music on," McGraw told People magazine in an interview published Friday. "We try to have those often."

"In fact, when the girls get home now, it’s like, 'Haven’t you been here a little too long?'" he teased of the couple's three daughters – Gracie, 25, Maggie, 25, and Audrey, 21 – who have since moved out.

During the interview, McGraw also shared the last game he played.

"Audrey, our youngest daughter, was home and had a few friends over," the "Standing Room Only" crooner said. "We had dinner and enjoyed playing trivia all night. I think Faith won, if I’m not mistaken. Or actually I think I won, but I better say she did."

McGraw recently shared that he "would've died" if he had not married Hill. The "It’s Your Love" crooner, who battled addiction and a 15-year struggle with sobriety, admitted that Hill was always his saving grace.

And although McGraw humbly claims he doesn’t have the "key" to a successful marriage, he has candidly admitted the one sexy song that spices up their love life, and the secret pact that helped their bond survive the struggles of life.

"Well, there's one song, and it's really an instrumental, but there's one. I’m probably going to get in trouble for saying this. God, please forgive me, baby. It’s ‘Samba Pa Ti' by Santana. It's kind of our song," he told Yahoo! Entertainment.

His uncle introduced him to the melody by the iconic '70s band and also suggested McGraw save the tune for a special occasion.

"My uncle told me one time — my uncle Hank, old hippie who lives in Napa Valley — he played it for me one time years ago on the road," McGraw said. "He loved that song too. He said, ‘I'm going to tell you something.’ He says, ‘Never make love to a woman with this song on unless you intend to marry her.’ And so I didn't until I did. And then I did."

As for their pact? To make their marriage work, McGraw confessed he made a promise to Hill at the start of their relationship.

"We just made a commitment early on, when we first decided we were getting married and having kids, that we wouldn’t just walk out the door when problems arose," he explained to Entertainment Tonight Canada.

Although the music superstars have faced challenges in their marriage, as McGraw battled addiction and a 15-year struggle with sobriety, the "It’s Your Love" crooner admitted Hill was always his saving grace.

Here’s a look back at their love story:

McGraw and Hill first met in 1994, but didn't start dating until 1996. Sparks flew when Hill joined McGraw on his Spontaneous Combustion tour, and the two tied the knot later that year.

In 2021, McGraw recalled his proposal to Hill in a sweet social media video as the two celebrated 25 years of marriage.

"We had dated for a while," McGraw detailed in a video clip shared on X, known as Twitter at the time. "I actually asked her to marry me quite a few times and she kept saying no. She said, 'I'm not going to get involved with another country singer, it's just not going to work out.'"

In 1997, McGraw and Hill revealed they were expecting their first baby. As the couple arrived at the American Music Awards together, the "This Kiss" singer flaunted her growing baby bump. Later that year, they welcomed daughter Grace.

A year later in 1998, the country stars welcomed their second child, a baby girl named Maggie. Their third daughter Audrey was born in 2001, one year after McGraw and Hill completed their Soul2Soul tour together.

As McGraw and Hill’s successful music careers skyrocketed, they vowed to always put their family first.

"Faith and I, the lucky thing for us, when we decided to get married, we knew we wanted a family and we knew we wanted our family to come first, and we were 29 when we got married," he told Apple Music.

"We were both successful and so when we got married and decided to have a family, we had had enough success at that time that we could pick and choose when we wanted to work and how we wanted to work."

While the couple’s three daughters are all grown up now — Gracie, 26; Maggie, 25; and Audrey, 21 — McGraw shared that the family of five isn’t afraid to be "brutally honest" with each other.

"Faith and I were going to raise our girls to be strong, independent and fierce and have their own minds and have their own opinions," he told "Entertainment Tonight Canada" last week.

"And sometimes I go, ‘Dang, do we want them to be that independent and strong?’ But yeah, we’re so proud of them."

However, despite career success and a happy family, McGraw confessed that he went through a low point in his life.

He recently opened up about his 15-year struggle with sobriety and how his wife always stood by him.

"She's always been my rock. She's my rock in everything that I do. I don't think I could stand up straight without leaning on her in everything that I do," McGraw shared during an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment.

Although McGraw had unconditional support from Hill, he's admitted it was difficult to avoid temptation during his sobriety journey.

"It is not a linear path," he noted during an event ahead of his Standing Room Only tour.

"There's setbacks… there's times you move forward and do great, and there's times you set back. And that'll probably be a process throughout the rest of my life and something that I have to be diligent about… really continue to work at."

McGraw candidly spoke out about how his "very personal… very emotional and very honest song" "Hey Whiskey" touches on his past alcohol abuse and heavy drinking.

The "Live Like You Were Dying" crooner has been proudly sober since 2008.

Tim McGraw is known for country songs like "I Like It, I Love It" and "Live Like You Were Dying," and he's not changing his tunes anytime soon.

As songs like Jason Aldean's "Try That in a Small Town" and Oliver Anthony's "Rich Men North of Richmond" have taken over the charts, McGraw says that he has no interest in releasing similarly topical music or in getting involved in the heated conversations surrounding these kinds of songs.

In an interview with USA Today, the singer was asked about the culture wars currently taking place in country music, and he responded, "I only pay attention to the kind of music I make. I let the songs I record speak for themselves."

"I stand for what I stand for and that’s all out there."

While McGraw has never been hugely vocal about his beliefs, he has been open about them. In 2008, he referred to himself as a "blue-dog Democrat" in an interview with People and announced that he and his wife, Faith Hill, were Obama supporters.

While fans won't hear anything similar to "Try That in a Small Town" on McGraw's new album, called "Standing Room Only," they can expect to hear a heartfelt song about his daughter Gracie and her move across the country.

"Nashville CA/L.A. Tennessee" is the name of a song on the album that he co-wrote with Bob Minner, his guitar player, and Lori McKenna, a singer-songwriter who also added vocals to the track.

He told the story of how he drove Gracie to Los Angeles, helped her move her things into her new home and then hesitated to leave.

"She puts both hands on my shoulders and says, ‘Dad, I’ve got this,’" he said emotionally. "She gave me a big hug and I said I love her and when I was driving back by myself I called Bob and we were swapping stories about our kids growing up, and he called Lori and we started working on the song. It’s not really spot on, but the inspiration came from moving my daughter."

Elsewhere in the interview, he said, "Throughout my career, my records have gravitated toward those kinds of songs. Stories about life. We all fail. We all have our terrible moments. And we’re going to have moments and we’re going to do the wrong thing, say the wrong thing, be politically incorrect from time to time."

Tim McGraw can't run after breaking foot too many times

Tim McGraw revealed he starts his day off with a walk – not a run – due to an injury.

McGraw shared with Entertainment Tonight Canada that his pre-show ritual used to involve running several miles, but he had to quit because he broke his foot too many times.

"Yeah, walk," he said when asked about his exercise routine. "I can’t run anymore because I’ve broken my foot so many times. I start every day with an hour walk."

He admitted that, prior to his injuries, "we used to run 7 or 8 miles before every show."

During the interview, the "Something Like That" singer also disclosed his favorite comfort food, which his wife of 27 years, Faith Hill, makes.

"Ah, Southern food," McGraw said of his favorite cheat meal. "I mean, my wife’s Southern cooking. She’ll cook anything, but my cheat meal is usually peas, cornbread, collared greens, pork chops, fries and gravy."

Although Hill's Southern cooking ranks at the top of her husband's list, he does enjoy other treats every once in a while.

"Coca-Cola cake," McGraw told the outlet before sharing that he also loves the cereal Cocoa Puffs. "My wife can tell when I get up in the middle of the night because I leave a trail of Cocoa Puffs all over ’cause I overfill my bowl."

McGraw's weight loss journey kicked into gear after he starred in the 2008 film "Four Christmases" with Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon. He weighed around 215 pounds when the movie was released.

When his daughter Gracie noted that her father looked "big on the screen," McGraw started making changes in his diet and exercise routine and lost 40 pounds.

"I got out of it for a while," McGraw told Men’s Health. "I was in the prime of my career, and I wasn’t capitalizing on it."

In addition to alcohol, he completely cut out "truck stop foods" and cheeseburgers and began incorporating more movement into his daily routine.

In addition to his pre-show ritual, McGraw recently shared a few secrets about how his marriage has survived the test of time.

Dolly Parton is undoubtedly one of the biggest country stars of all time, and she's recently proven that she's not just limited to one genre with the popularity of her latest single, a cover of "Let It Be" with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.

But music isn't the only thing she's dipped her toes into. She's always been dedicated to charity work, and she has a remarkably successful business in her Dollywood theme park.

Another thing Parton has found success in is, of course, acting.

However, she's not the only country star to wade into the waters of Hollywood stardom. Tim McGraw, Reba McEntire and relative newcomer Lainey Wilson have all balanced music and acting.

ӣ��Ƶ Digital takes a look at these singers and more who have gone on to find success on the silver screen.

Dolly Parton

Sixteen years after making the move from her home in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee to Nashville to start her music career, Parton found herself starring alongside legendary actresses Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda in the 1980s film "9 to 5."

Fonda, who also produced the movie, handpicked both of her costars, telling Stephen Colbert in a 2017 interview that she made the choice to offer Parton the role after she heard one of her songs on the radio.

"I thought, ‘Oh my, imagine if Dolly Parton was playing secretary,’" she recalled before joking, "I mean, you couldn't see her hands."

She reached out to Parton, who only agreed to act in the movie if she could write a song to go with it, and she did. The song "9 to 5" was incredibly successful, winning two Grammy Awards, one for best country song and one for best female country vocal performance. It was also nominated for an Oscar for best original song.

Two years later, she took her talents to Hollywood once again, starring in the film adaption of the Broadway musical "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas." She and Burt Reynolds led the movie musical, but the experience wasn't a good one for her. In a 1984 conversation with Interview, she said, "Well, ‘Whorehouse’ was not fun. I loved Burt Reynolds and Jim Nabors and all those people, but at that particular time, I was ill, and coming from a Broadway play, we already had everything against us."

In the same interview, she had a message for her country fans who may have been concerned that she was leaving music behind for Hollywood: "I’m not leaving the country, I’m just taking it with me."

The rest of the '80s saw Parton starring in "Rhinestone" with Sylvester Stallone, "Steel Magnolias" with Shirley MacLaine and Sally Field, as well as a holiday film with Lee Majors called "A Smoky Mountain Christmas."

Although she has several more acting credits to her name, she slowed down after that string of successful movies. In the '90s, she played herself in massively popular TV shows like "The Simpsons" and "Designing Women," and in 2012, she took another big film role with "Joyful Noise," which also starred Queen Latifah. Her most recent character role was in 2022 – she appeared in an episode of "Grace and Frankie" with past co-stars Fonda and Tomlin.

In a 2021 episode of the "Beyond the Influence" podcast, Parton explained her acting technique, admitting, "If you look real close, I only take parts that is really close to my own personality. I've never yet done one of those scenes that's too far-fetched. … I always take things that I think I can pull off."

Tim McGraw became a household name in the '90s after becoming a breakout country star with songs like "Indian Outlaw" and "Don't Take the Girl," but years after achieving fame, he decided to pursue a different creative outlet.

He made his acting debut in 2004 in a movie called "Black Cloud," and while that may not sound familiar, that same year he had his first big role in the blockbuster hit "Friday Night Lights."

In a 2020 conversation during an Instagram Live with Rita Wilson, McGraw explained that after he made it big in country music, he'd been asked to move into acting as well, but he had reservations about it.

"It’s tough to go from one to the other in a lot of ways because it’s hard for a lot of people to buy into it sometimes," he said. "For me, when I first started in music and had some success, people wanted me to do film,s and I didn’t want to do it for a long time because I was scared – you know, playing music is all about being cool."

"The transition was always tough because I was scared that I would sort of blow my cover as a musician if I tried to step into something, and certainly, if I didn’t do well at it, it could be something that could hurt my music career, which is what my passion was at the time and still is," he continued. "But then I read the script of ‘Friday Night Lights’ – it had been sitting around for a while and I put off reading it, but then I read it and identified with that character so readily. It was instant to me that I could play that guy. I knew that guy; I knew that guy from where I grew up. There was a group of people who created that guy in my head. But I knew him and I knew I could play him, and from that point on, I was on fire for that role. I had to do it."

Like Parton, after McGraw began acting, he appeared in a string of notable movies. He was in the family film "Flicka" in 2006 and "The Kingdom," an action film starring Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Garner, in 2007. In 2008, he made an appearance with another country star, Dwight Yoakam, in "Four Christmases," a holiday movie starring Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn.

2009 brought one of his most memorable roles: The role of Sean Touhy in his second critically acclaimed sports movie, "The Blind Side."

As he explained to NJ.com at the time, he nearly passed on the part because he "didn’t want to do a movie about football" after already having done "Friday Night Lights."

"I really didn’t want to do a father kind of deal because I’d just done 'Flicka,'" he added. "The script was in a stack I had to read on vacation. I didn’t think I would be interested, and I read it, and it stuck with me. I knew Sandra was going to do it and John Lee Hancock was going to direct and all the reasons to do it started adding up and the reasons not to do it didn’t make sense anymore."

He went on to star in "Country Strong" opposite Gwyneth Paltrow in 2012 and "Tomorrowland" with George Clooney in 2015.

More recently, he appeared on an episode of the hit show "Yellowstone," and in turn, he got his own spinoff with "1883," which also features his wife, Faith Hill, and Sam Elliot.

On a podcast called "The Bobby Bones Show" this year, McGraw talked about his acting process, saying, "I'm pretty calm as long as I know my words. As long as I know the script, then I feel pretty calm about it, but I have to say when you're doing a scene with Sam Elliott and you have to stare him down and sort of have a confrontation with him, that gets a little nerve-wracking because he can stare you down pretty good."

Lainey Wilson

Lainey Wilson is relatively new to the country music scene. Although she moved to Nashville in 2011 to begin her career, it wasn't until 2019 that she had her big breakthrough with her EP "Redneck Hollywood." This was also the year when she began touring with superstar Morgan Wallen and her music began being featured in "Yellowstone," which was on its second season at the time.

Her songs appeared on the season two premiere and in two episodes in the third season. By the time the fifth season rolled around, Wilson had been offered an acting role on the show.

In an interview with the New York Post last year, she explained how she came to be on the show, saying, "I met ['Yellowstone' creator and executive producer] Taylor Sheridan after he put one of my songs in the show. He invited me out to Vegas to play a horse-riding competition. And we really kind of bonded over horses."

Wilson admitted, "I didn't really know what I was doing, but you go in there head-first. I was going to give people their money's worth. I told my mommy and daddy, 'You might not want to watch this show.' I don't want to be on their prayer list."

While she doesn't have any other acting credits to her name just yet, she's said she'd be open to appearing in a spinoff of the hit show.

Reba McEntire

Reba McEntire has been singing for most of her life, having been taught by her mother when she was a young girl. She landed her first record contract when she was just 20, and she had steady success until her real breakthrough in the early '80s with songs like "You're the First Time I Thought About Leaving" and "How Blue."

After climbing to the top of the country charts again and again throughout the rest of the '80s, in 1990 she made her acting debut in "Tremors," a horror comedy. According to her website, she made the decision to give Hollywood a shot "after getting a taste of acting from her music videos."

She worked on a handful of TV movies, appeared on an episode of "Frasier" and in 1994's "Little Rascals."

2001 was a huge year for McEntire's acting career. She did the musical from February to June that year, and when she was done, she moved to Los Angeles to begin filming her own sitcom, "Reba."

The show ran for six seasons and continues to experience success in syndication as well as online – a popular social media trend over the past couple of years involves singing the theme song of the show, "I'm a Survivor," over funny videos.

In the years since, she's done a number of TV appearances, including another show of her own, 2012's "Malibu Country."

In a 2022 interview with ABC to promote her role on the series "Big Skies," her most recent acting job, she spoke about making the transition to doing movies and TV from music, saying, "When I'm singing the song, I'm acting out the song. So, it came natural for me."

Randy Travis

Randy Travis is responsible for some of the most memorable country songs in recent memory. With platinum hits like "Forever and Ever, Amen" and "Deeper Than the Holler," Travis was remarkably successful in his music career. When it comes to singers turned actors, his acting career is pretty remarkable as well.

In 1988, the same year he had three No. 1 hits on the country charts, he got his first acting gig – an uncredited role in "Young Guns." A few years later, he took a year off from music to pursue acting.

As he explained in a 1994 interview with Country Weekly, he had gotten tired of touring and decided to pursue his longtime dream of being in a Western movie.

During that year off, he filmed five movies: "At Risk," what he called an "artsy-type movie," "Frank and Jesse," "The Legend of O.B. Taggart," "Deadman's Revenge" and "Maverick," which showed the singer in a cameo role that seemed to be left out of the final cut.

Travis said that when it came to any future movie roles, "It has to be something I like. … I want to be a competent actor and be offered some good parts and some really good movies that the public receives well. I don’t see myself winning any awards. I went after the acting because it’s something I want to do. I kind of wanted to prove to myself that I could do it."

After his initial year-long delve into acting, he went on to appear in many more movies, including "Black Dog" with Patrick Swayze and "The Rainmaker" with Matt Damon. He continued acting steadily until a stroke in 2013 left him with limited speech.

Billy Ray Cyrus

Billy Ray Cyrus grew up in poverty and struggled so much in his early days of trying to make it in the music business that he had to live in his car for a time. Despite his hardships, he kept pushing, and in 1992 he released his first and most successful single, "Achy Breaky Heart."

Soon after, he found himself in a situation in which two women were both pregnant with his children at the same time. He married one of them, Tish Cyrus, and they went on to have three children together. He made the decision to stop touring to focus on his new family, and he began to be considered a one-hit wonder, even though he continued recording music.

His father encouraged him to pursue acting, and that's just what he did. "I don’t know if there’s a key. We always say we’re 27 years coming up, it’s like 96 in show business," he quipped during an interview with "Entertainment Tonight Canada." "It’s almost like dog years."

Although the country star humbly admitted he doesn’t have the "key" to a successful marriage, he sure knows the way to his wife’s heart after celebrating more than two decades together.

‘The Blind Side’ subject Michael Oher claims movie was based on lie: Other films that stretched the truth

If box office earnings are anything to go by, audiences tend to love movies based on true stories.

From "Titanic" to "Schindler's List," and "Erin Brockovich" to Elvis," these films can bring in millions and launch award-winning careers.

While "Titanic" was always known to be a fictional love story tied to an accurate depiction of what happened on the disaster-bound ship and the real Erin Brockovich has said the movie based on her life was spot on, other films have faced scrutiny for claiming to depict real events.

Here's a look at some movies that may have stretched the truth.

"The Blind Side"

Released in 2009, "The Blind Side" starred Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw and Quinton Aaron. It was "based on the extraordinary true story" and the characters used the same names as the people they portrayed: Leigh Anne Touhy, Sean Touhy and Michael Oher.

The movie told the story of a teenager, Oher, who the Touhy family found wandering the streets in freezing weather. They took him home, hired a tutor to help with his dismal grades and taught him how to play football. Oher, both in the movie and in real life, played in the NFL.

"The Blind Side" was hailed as an inspiration, and it was nominated for a best picture Oscar. Bullock won the Oscar for best leading actress.

Despite how popular the movie was, Oher has long taken issue with his depiction in it, most recently in a bombshell lawsuit filed this week. In court documents, he explained how the movie was based on a lie.

While he believed until this year that the Touhy family adopted him, he's now alleging that what he thought were adoption papers were actually papers for a conservatorship. While the original agreement was that the conservatorship would last until either it was terminated or Oher turned 25, it's still legally in place. The former NFL player is now 37.

He also claimed he's never received a cent from the movie based on his life while the Tuohys received $225,000, along with a small percentage of the proceeds. The family has denied this, saying Oher has received an equal cut of any money they've made from "The Blind Side."

The family has also claimed Oher threatened to "plant a negative story" about them in the press if they didn't give him $15 million. Despite the controversy, the Tuohys say they hope to iron things out with Oher because they still love him and want him in their lives.

MICHAEL OHER'S ADOPTION REVELATION FACES PUSHBACK FROM TUOHY FAMILY MEMBERS

In his 2011 memoir, Oher wrote that he didn't appreciate how the movie made him look "dumb" when really he was a kid "who had never had consistent academic instruction." In later interviews, he said he got a bad reputation during his football career from the film.

"Fargo"

When the Coen brothers released "Fargo" in 1996, they included a note at the beginning that said, "This is a true story. The events depicted in this film took place in Minnesota in 1987. At the request of the survivors, the names have been changed. Out of respect for the dead, the rest has been told exactly as it occurred."

As it turned out, that was not the case.

The movie told the story of a man who, desperate for money, hired two men to kidnap his wife so that her wealthy father would pay a ransom. Things spiral out of control after that, but as Ethan Coen told HuffPost in 2016, "We wanted to make a movie just in the genre of a true story movie. You don’t have to have a true story to make a true story movie."

Joel Coen told Far Out magazine, "If an audience believes that something's based on a real event, it gives you permission to do things they might otherwise not accept."

However, the most memorable scene from "Fargo," the wood chipper scene, was based on something that actually happened. In the movie, one of the criminals is found in the process of putting his partner through the machine. Years before the film's release, a man named Richard Crafts was convicted of killing his wife. He disposed of her body by putting her through his own wood chipper.

"A Beautiful Mind"

Russell Crowe starred in "A Beautiful Mind," the award-winning 2001 biopic of mathematician John Nash. While the premise for this movie was accurate, several key details were changed.

The movie tells the story of a gifted man who studied at Princeton, where he met his wife. But his life took a dark turn when he began developing symptoms of schizophrenia.

While this happened in Nash's life, the details are quite different.

In the film, it's revealed that multiple characters are actually just Nash's hallucinations. In reality, it's exceedingly rare for people with schizophrenia to have hallucinations, and there's no evidence Nash had them.

Jennifer Connelly co-stars in the film, playing the role of Nash's wife, Alicia. She's seen struggling with his symptoms and trying desperately to reach him at his lowest moments. The real Alicia divorced Nash in 1963, six years after they got married. He did continue living with her and, as shown in the movie, they did have a child. He also had another child before he married her, a fact missing from the movie.

Other smaller details were changed too. In the movie, Nash gave an inspirational speech when he won the Nobel Prize, but video footage of the actual event shows he didn't speak at all when he accepted the honor. At one point, Crowe's Nash mentions that he takes newer medications to treat his mental illness, but the real Nash stopped taking meds altogether in 1970.

"Saturday Night Fever"

One of John Travolta's most iconic roles was that of Tony Manero in "Saturday Night Fever." The film was released in 1977, and it starred Travolta as a 19-year-old in Brooklyn who struggles at home but discovers himself at his local disco.

The movie was based on a "true story" that ended up not being true at all.

"Saturday Night Fever" was adapted from a 1976 article in New York Magazine called "Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night" by Nik Cohn. His story focused on a man named Vincent who he called "the very best dancer in Bay Ridge."

"Everybody knew him," Cohn wrote. "When Saturday night came round and he walked into 2001 Odyssey, all the other Faces automatically fell back before him, cleared a space for him to float in, right at the very center of the dance floor. Gracious as a medieval seigneur accepting tributes, Vincent waved and nodded at random. Then his face grew stern, his body turned to the music. Solemn, he danced, and all the Faces followed."

He prefaced the article with a note that said, "Everything described in this article is factual and was either witnessed by me or told to me directly by the people involved. Only the names of the main characters have been changed."

‘EMPIRE STRIKES BACK,’ ‘SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER’ HEADING TO NATIONAL FILM REGISTRY

In 1995, nearly 20 years after Cohn's story was published, he recanted it in a piece he wrote for The Guardian.

"The problem was that my story was a fraud. I’d only recently arrived in New York. Far from being steeped in Brooklyn street life, I hardly knew the place," he wrote in part. "As for Vincent, my story’s hero, he was largely inspired by a Shepherd’s Bush mod whom I’d known in the Sixties, a one-time king of the Goldhawk Road."

"Catch Me If You Can"

"Catch Me If You Can" from 2002 tells the story of a conman named Frank William Abagnale Jr., played by Leonardo DiCaprio. The audience sees Abagnale pretend to be a pilot, a doctor and a lawyer, all while forging checks for these professions. Throughout the movie, he interacts with an FBI agent played by Tom Hanks who, as the title implies, can't seem to catch him.

Abagnale said in an interview with Charleston Stage the movie is 80% accurate, but many of the claims he's made in the years since he rose to infamy as a con artist have been questioned or debunked. A journalist named Alan C. Logan wrote a book about Abagnale, and in his research he claims to have discovered that for most of Abagnale's late teen years (the years depicted in "Catch Me If You Can"), he was in prison.

As Logan explained on a podcast called "The Pulse" in 2021, Abagnale only began telling the version of events shown in the movie in 1977 when he appeared on a game show called "To Tell the Truth." This is when he began getting widespread attention for his alleged exploits. So, it's possible a great deal of the movie is entirely fiction.

One thing the Spielberg film did get right was Abagnale's habit of writing bad checks. He spent time in prisons in the U.S., France and Sweden for forgery, fraud and theft.

Tim McGraw knows how to "Live Like You Were Dying" – it has simply become his way of life.

Between hours in the gym to maintain his physique, to hours at home with his wife, Faith Hill, and their three daughters (if they have a chance to drop by), McGraw has made sure to put just as much of a focus on his family as his career through the last 30 years as a country music star.

His rise to the top – just like his battle with alcoholism – was not linear. While his first album flopped, he stayed the course and did not settle for anything but the best. Faith in himself and gratitude for those who have supported him along the way have helped him remain standing on solid ground.

McGraw and Hill were in relationships with other people when they first met at a gig in 1994, but they reconnected two years later when she opened for him on his tour.

McGraw and Hill have been married now for nearly three decades and have three daughters: Gracie, 26; Maggie, 24; and Audrey, 21.

He has leaned on Faith for as long as he can remember. In 2008, McGraw came clean to his wife about his battle with alcoholism.

"I remember a moment when I was getting out of bed and going to the liquor cabinet and taking a big shot at 8:00 in the morning and thinking, ‘I have to wake the kids up,’" he told Esquire in 2021.

"I went straight to my wife and said, ‘This is where I’m at.’ I was scared. She just grabbed me and hugged me and changed my life."

His sobriety journey has not been easy, but he praised Hill for being a guiding light despite the struggles. "She's always been my rock. She's my rock in everything that I do," McGraw told Yahoo Entertainment. "I don't think I could stand up straight without leaning on her in everything that I do."

In addition to his wife, McGraw's kids have been a guiding force to help him change his perspective on health.

Around the same time he faced his alcoholism battle head-on, McGraw starred in the 2008 film "Four Christmases" with Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon. He weighed around 215 pounds when the movie was released.

When his daughter Gracie noted that her father looked "big on the screen," McGraw started implementing changes in his diet and exercise routine and lost 40 pounds.

"I got out of it for a while," McGraw told Men’s Health. "I was in the prime of my career, and I wasn’t capitalizing on it."

In addition to alcohol, he completely cut out "truck-stop foods" and cheeseburgers and began incorporating more movement into his day-to-day.

"I use my whole body to sing—my legs, my butt," he said. "And having more control over those things makes my voice stronger."

"Focusing on my physical health hasn’t just made my body healthier, it’s made me healthier at every level," McGraw said in a recent Instagram post in 2019. "Moving daily and exercising regularly was a pebble that set off a ripple effect, improving the way I eat, sleep, relate to others, and show up both personally and professionally. It made me a better person to be around."

His latest ballad, "Hey Whiskey," draws comparisons to his own complicated relationship with alcohol.

He sings, "All I ever did was give you my attention / Every Friday night since I turned twenty-two / I trusted you with my naive intentions / Hey whiskey, what'd I ever do to you? / I gave you every penny in my pocket / You helped me lie and made me tell the truth / Stayed out with you all night when you came calling / Hey whiskey, what'd I ever do to you?"

McGraw admitted he wanted to "dig deeper" with his 17th album, "Standing Room Only," which debuts end of August and includes a tour in 2024 with special guest Carly Pearce.

"As an artist, I always want to dig deeper and get better every time I make a new record," McGraw said in a statement. "It’s a big part of what drives me, and I really believe this is one of the best projects we’ve made. I’ve been working on this album since 2020, and this collection of songs are some of the most emotional, thought-provoking, and life-affirming music I’ve ever recorded."
