Recent Super Bowl champion Shane Lemieux retires at just 28

Shane Lemieux, an NFL offensive lineman who won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks earlier this year, has announced that he is retiring.

Lemieux, a fifth-round pick by the New York Giants in the 2020 NFL Draft, shared the surprising life update on his LinkedIn page on Tuesday. The 28-year-old pointed to the five surgeries he’s undergone during his playing career as a driving force that led him to his decision.

"After graduating from the University of Oregon and being drafted by the New York Giants, I had dreams of a 10+ year, All-Pro career," Lemieux wrote. "I believed I could get there. But after 5 surgeries and more time in the training room than on the field, the game started to look different to me. That is why I am deciding to step away with the health that I have.

"While I didn’t achieve that goal, the lessons I learned through the injuries, the releases, and finally getting back on the field mean more to me going forward than any accolade ever could have. And the relationships built along the way have been the most impactful of all."

Lemieux spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Giants and started nine games during his rookie campaign.

In 2021, Lemieux underwent season-ending surgery to repair his left knee’s patella tendon. The following year, he injured a toe during the preseason and was ultimately placed on season-long injured reserve in December. In 2023, Lemieux tore his biceps during an October practice and managed to play just 27 snaps during the season.

After a brief stint with the New Orleans Saints in 2024 and 2025, Lemieux inked a deal with Seattle in September 2025 to join the Seahawks’ practice squad. He did not feature in a game for the Seahawks a season ago.

What’s next for Lemieux, who will turn 29 in May, is unclear, but the former first-team All-American signed off on his retirement announcement with a motivating message.

Despite leading the NFL in interceptions during a turbulent season with the Raiders, Geno Smith appears poised to take the New York Jets to new heights in his second stint, according to his coach, at least.

While Smith’s reunion with the team that drafted him is widely viewed as a short-term answer to the team’s quarterback questions, head coach Aaron Glenn suggested he is the right quarterback to end the Jets’ league-leading playoff drought.

"I just feel like he's the guy that's going to lead us to the promised land," Glenn told reporters Tuesday at the NFL's annual meeting in Arizona.

The Jets won just three games last season and have not reached the postseason since 2010. Smith returns after throwing 17 interceptions with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Smith had some success leading up to his move to Las Vegas, earning a second consecutive Pro Bowl selection in 2023 with the Seattle Seahawks. After missing the playoffs in 2024, he was traded to the Raiders.

Glenn acknowledged the ups-and-downs of Smith's career.

"Listen, I know he had his struggles," he said. "I think a lot of quarterbacks, they have their struggles.

"But I do know this: He understands exactly what happened last year. I don't want to get too far into that because I wasn't there, obviously, with the Raiders. But I do know that, man, there are some things that he knows he can correct. He's at fault on some of those, but there are some things that he knows that he's going to get better at, and I look forward to him doing that."

The 2027 NFL Draft quarterback class continues to be highly touted. However, Glenn doubled down on the present and his belief in Smith as "the perfect guy to fit exactly what we're going to do" from an offensive standpoint.

"I think he's going to create some damage because of the arm talent," Glenn continued. "And, man, he's grown so much as far as his smarts, as far as IDs, as far as protection and things like that."

After throwing 21 interceptions against 12 touchdowns in his rookie year, Smith evened his touchdown-to-interception ratio in 2014, throwing 13 in each category. A broken jaw he sustained in an altercation with a teammate sidelined Smith for several weeks in 2015. After continued uneven play, he eventually lost his job permanently.

Glenn said the Jets considered Smith’s history before the trade but concluded it would not be "a detriment to us as an organization." He added Smith welcomed the return, calling it a "full-circle moment."

Super Bowl champion Seahawks to open 2026 NFL season on Wednesday night

The 2026 NFL season is opening on a Wednesday night, and the reigning Super Bowl champions will be involved.

The Seattle Seahawks, who took down the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX to climb back atop the football world, will play host to a team to be announced later to kick off the 2026 season Sept. 9, a rare Wednesday game.

While the NFL has had to play on a Wednesday due to scheduling conflicts in the past or on holidays, this occurrence has to do with the league’s latest international debut of its product.

The Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers will be playing in Melbourne, Australia, with the game kicking off at 10:35 a.m. local time on a Friday. Back home, it will be 8:35 p.m. ET on Sept. 10, which is a Thursday night compared to Friday morning in Australia.

"We are thrilled to kick off our season in Melbourne, enhancing an already historic moment for both the NFL and the Rams," Stephanie Cheng, Rams head of international, said in a statement.

For the Seahawks home opener, this will mark the first time since 2012 the NFL opened its season on a Wednesday night. It was the New York Giants hosting the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium, and the Giants received their Super Bowl rings from the season before.

Barack Obama’s Democratic National Convention speech was later that week in 2012. The league understandably didn’t want its start to the season overshadowed.

As the league continues to expand, especially internationally, with a record nine games set for the 2026 season, there could be football played on more Wednesdays in the future.

The NFL is reportedly considering adding a Thanksgiving Eve game, which would be the Wednesday before its usual three-game stretch on Thanksgiving night, in its continued exploration of new broadcast windows. ESPN reported the move could come as early as the 2026 season.

A "Black Friday" game has already been played the last three seasons, making a Wednesday contest on Thanksgiving Eve not a wild thought.

"Every offseason we look for new opportunities to best serve our fans in the schedule-making process," the league said Wednesday in a statement.

"As Commissioner Goodell has said, Thanksgiving and NFL football have become synonymous and, given the continued growth of fan interest around our games on Thanksgiving and Black Friday, looking for additional opportunities tied to this special holiday is exciting for us to explore."

The full NFL schedule will be released May 13 for every team in the league.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Seahawks agree to historic contract extension: reports

Jaxon Smith-Njigba played a pivotal role in the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl-winning run during the 2025 season, and on Monday, he got paid for his efforts.

Smith-Njigba and the Seahawks agreed to a four-year, $168.6 million contract extension with $120 million guaranteed, according to multiple reports. He will now become the highest-paid receiver in NFL history with a $42.15 million annual average value of the contract.

The Seahawks selected Smith-Njigba in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. He didn’t turn into a full-time starting receiver until the 2024 season, when he earned his first Pro Bowl selection.

Smith-Njigba’s value to the team grew exponentially in 2025. He had 119 catches for 1,793 yards and 10 touchdowns with Sam Darnold slinging him the pill. The receiving yardage total led the NFL.

NFL will dilute product even further by opening season on a Wednesday

The 2026–27 NFL season will reportedly begin on a Wednesday this year, with the usual Thursday game played in Melbourne, Australia.

Unlike the past two seasons, the league cannot schedule a game on the opening Friday of the season because it falls in the second week of September (not the first). The Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 prohibits the NFL from broadcasting games from the second Friday in September until the second Saturday in December, protecting both high school and college football from professional competition.

The Wednesday game will air on NBC, according to Joe Flint of The Wall Street Journal, featuring the Super Bowl-winning Seattle Seahawks. The Melbourne game will likely be part of a new four-game package the NFL is shopping to a streamer as a result of the league’s equity deal with ESPN.

The package is also expected to include an annual Wednesday game on the night before Thanksgiving. YouTube is believed to be the frontrunner for the new slate.

But while Americans are reluctant to concede there is such a thing as – wait for it -- too much football, we maintain that the NFL is diluting its product by further stretching out its national schedule.

The added windows have undermined the NFL’s tradition of a robust Sunday slate. Opening weekend is, put simply, not as strong when four teams have already played by Sunday morning. What’s more, 10 teams will have already played by the first Sunday after Thanksgiving.

With games on Wednesday and Thursday, there is simply less excitement for Sunday’s early, afternoon, and prime-time windows. By Monday, Americans will have already spent three to four days, including Saturday for college football, watching the sport.

Scarcity helped elevate football to America’s new pastime. The NFL is taking that away.

EX-NFL STAR CAUTIONS LEAGUE ABOUT ‘GIVING FANS TOO MUCH’ AS THANKSGIVING EVE GAME REPORTEDLY EYED

As the Christmas Day slate last year proved, there are not enough compelling teams to expand the national schedule much further. Adding games on Wednesdays and Fridays only increases the likelihood of sloppy play, uneven rest between opponents, and injuries – all of which hurt the product last season.

International games also tend to be lower quality, as long travel and added obligations interfere with normal practice time. Consider how flat the Kansas City Chiefs looked opening weekend last year in Brazil against the Chargers. That was not a strong showcase for the league.

Traveling back across the ocean also hinders preparation for the following week.

In theory, the NFL would schedule teams that open on Wednesday against teams that open on Thursday. But the league will likely prioritize scheduling the juiciest matchups instead, creating scenarios in which a team on 11 days of rest faces one on just seven.

We understand these complaints fall on deaf ears. The NFL is the biggest brand in entertainment in the United States and sees growth potential in expanding internationally and adding more streaming partners. Still, the league ought to consider the toll that pursuing every available form of monetization has on the game itself.

The NFL is not as good as it used to be. There are too many games, windows, and networks involved. The product is undeniably diluted. And yet, the league plans to dilute it even further by adding Wednesday games to the schedule.

Seahawks GM warns Washington’s new 'millionaire tax' could hurt free agent recruiting

Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider highlighted a recent decision by Washington state lawmakers that he believes could pose problems as the reigning Super Bowl champions look to add players to sustain long-term success.

Washington’s long-standing status as a largely tax-free state is set to change in 2028 after lawmakers approved a "millionaire tax" that would levy a 9.9% rate on high earners.

The tax will apply to individuals earning more than $1 million annually. Gov. Bob Ferguson has indicated he will sign the bill. It is unclear whether the legislation will face legal challenges. Schneider projected the new tax deduction could hinder the Seahawks' ability to recruit and ultimately sign free agents.

Schneider suggested that part of the team’s pitch to free agents over the years has highlighted Washington’s tax exemptions.

"There were a bunch of agents texting me the other day like, ‘Hey, can’t use that anymore, buddy,’" Schneider said this week on his Seattle Sports 710-AM radio show.

As of 2026, the Seahawks are one of eight NFL clubs based in a state that does not impose income tax on personal wages.

Two of those teams, the Texans and Cowboys, are based in Texas, while three of those teams play home games in Florida: the Jaguars, Buccaneers and Dolphins. The Raiders relocated from California to the neighboring tax-free Nevada in 2020, while the Titans are set to open a multibillion-dollar domed stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2027.

"It's going to be a problem, and hopefully it doesn't happen," an unnamed NFL agent told ESPN when asked about thoughts on the potential impact the new taxes could have on the Seahawks.

While it remains unclear whether the new taxes will influence NFL players’ decisions about signing with the Seahawks, an MLB player recently cited California’s higher tax rates in his decision to turn down a deal with the San Diego Padres.

Merrill Kelly, who entered the free agent market after pitching in 10 games with the Texas Rangers in 2025, last month agreed to a deal to return to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Kelly agreed to a two-year contract worth an estimated $40 million with the Diamondbacks, according to ESPN. Although the Padres offered a comparable deal at three years instead of two, California’s 13% tax rate on income above $1 million proved a key difference.

"I don’t think it’s any secret on how much money you get taken out of your pocket when you go to California," the right-hander told "Foul Territory."

The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly made one of the first big splashes of NFL free agency.

The Chiefs and Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker III agreed to a deal on Monday, according to multiple reports. Walker joining the Chiefs would certainly bolster their chances of getting back to the playoffs following a 6-11 season.

Kansas City and Walker's deal is for up to $45 million over three years, NFL Network reported.

Walker had a breakout year in 2025 as he helped guide the Seattle Seahawks to their second Super Bowl title. He ran for 1,027 yards and five touchdowns as he and Zach Charbonnet dominated the backfield and bolstered Sam Darnold’s passing game.

In Super Bowl LX, Walker helped Seattle push past the New England Patriots. He ran for 135 yards and had two touchdown catches in the 29-13 win. He was the first running back to receive the honor since Terrell Davis did it for the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXXII.

Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III is poised for free agency after the Seahawks' franchise tag decision

For just the fourth time in the past three decades, the reigning Super Bowl MVP will likely be available on the open market.

The Seattle Seahawks declined to exercise the franchise tag for running back Kenneth Walker III before Thursday’s deadline, according to multiple reports.

NFL teams had until late Tuesday afternoon to apply the franchise tag to eligible players whose contracts expire once the new league year starts next week. The Seahawks and Walker could still work out a long-term deal before the free agency period officially opens. If not, Walker would explore the open market.

Larry Brown, Dexter Jackson and Desmond Howard are the only other players to reach free agency in the weeks immediately after being named Super Bowl MVP.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider reacted to a report that another member of Seattle’s championship offense intends to hit the open market.

Acquired from the Saints in November, Rashid Shaheed had 188 receiving yards in nine regular-season games with Seattle.

Schneider took issue with the timing of the news.

"I saw the report yesterday, and I was like, ‘He and his representatives, I think they’ve been testing free agency for over a week now.’ I’m not sure why that was news yesterday," according to The Athletic.

In November, Shaheed expressed optimism about his future with the Seahawks.

"I’m here to stay," he said shortly after being traded to Seattle. "So, I’m excited to see if we can figure something out after the season ends. But, yeah, I’m excited."

While the Seahawks' defense contained the Patriots in last month’s Super Bowl, Walker powered Seattle’s offense at Levi’s Stadium. He rushed for 135 yards and added 26 receiving yards, becoming the first running back in 28 years to earn the coveted Super Bowl MVP trophy.

Boye Mafe, Josh Jobe, Coby Bryant and Riq Woolen are among the notable Seahawks players who figure to enter free agency next week.

If Walker becomes available March 11, he is expected to draw interest from several NFL teams.

Viral moments seem to spawn out of championship parades these days, for better or worse.

For Seahawks GM John Schneider, the Super Bowl LX parade in Seattle on Wednesday saw an awkward moment involving the game’s MVP, running back Kenneth Walker III, go viral after what he said to the crowd.

Walker had himself quite the Super Bowl, capping off a terrific postseason run for the 25-year-old set to hit free agency this offseason with his rookie contract up.

Well, Schneider, holding a red Solo cup in his right hand, decided the podium in front of the entire city, with Walker over his left shoulder, was the best place to start negotiations on a new deal.

"Ken Walker being the MVP, let’s go!" Schneider yelled to the cheering crowd. "He tried negotiating with me five minutes ago. It was really weird. Anyway, hey, M-V-P! M-V-P!"

Walker smiled and shook his head, with social media users believing he looked uncomfortable in the moment. But he later addressed Schneider’s comments on Instagram.

Walker carried the Seahawks’ offense throughout the low-scoring affair until the fourth quarter saw 30 combined points against the New England Patriots. Walker finished with 135 rushing yards on 27 carries, while collecting 26 receiving yards on two catches.

In a split backfield with Zach Charbonnet this season, Walker still rushed for 1,027 yards on 221 carries with five touchdowns on the ground and 282 receiving yards on 31 receptions. It was the Michigan State product’s second season rushing for over 1,000 yards, which includes a breakout rookie campaign after Seattle drafted him in the second round in 2022.

The Seahawks didn’t have their two-headed monster in the backfield in the playoffs, though, as Charbonnet suffered a season-ending injury. Walker made the best of the heavier workload, rushing for 313 yards on 65 attempts with four touchdowns, three of which coming in the 41-6 rout of the San Francisco 49ers.

It would benefit the Seahawks, who currently have $72.28 million in projected cap space this offseason, to re-sign Walker. His market value is currently projected at around $9 million per season by Spotrac, but it may be even higher after his playoff run.

Either way, negotiations will start when both sides are ready to hit the table — sober. The thrill of winning the Super Bowl remains fresh, as it should after a hard-fought season.

Jones, 26, passionately talked up his team in a profanity-laced speech and delivered a message to the critics.

Jones was one of the pillars of the Seahawks’ championship defense. In 15 games during the regular season, the 26-year-old had 126 total tackles, half a sack, and five interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

In three playoff games, the linebacker had 25 total tackles with an interception, a pass deflection, and a forced fumble.

Sam Darnold’s fiancée, Katie Hoofnagle, took to social media to post a heartfelt message about the quarterback after the Seattle Seahawks' Super Bowl LX victory.

The couple went official with their romance in 2023 and got engaged prior to the 2025 season. Hoofnagle praised Darnold for his humility on his journey.

"And despite everything, you remained kind. In moments where it would’ve been so easy to make excuses or put the blame on somebody else, you never wavered. Your patience, respect, discipline, and humility have continuously shone through, even on the hardest days of the journey," Hoofnagle posted to Instagram.

Darnold’s journey to stardom has not been linear. After an unsuccessful first three years with the New York Jets, he was traded to the Carolina Panthers.

Darnold then signed with the Minnesota Vikings after one season with the 49ers and thrived after being named the starter. He helped the Vikings to a 14-3 record and finished 10th in MVP voting after completing 66.2% of passes for 4,319 yards with 35 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

However, Darnold had two of his worst performances in the team’s playoff loss and in Week 18 when the Vikings lost to the Detroit Lions with a chance at the No. 1 seed in the NFC on the line.

The Vikings allowed Darnold to test free agency, and he signed with the Seahawks and is now a Super Bowl champion. He helped lead the Seahawks to a 14-3 record in the regular season, completing 67.7% of passes for 4,048 yards with 25 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

In three playoff games, Darnold did not turn the ball over once and particularly shone in the Seahawks’ NFC Championship Game victory over the Los Angeles Rams. In that game, Darnold completed 25 of his 36 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns.

Seattle schools staying open despite Seahawks Super Bowl parade, absences unexcused

Seattle Seahawks fans will undoubtedly come out in droves for Wednesday’s Super Bowl celebration, but for students partying, it will hurt their attendance records.

Seattle Public Schools announced earlier this week that schools will not only stay open, but going to the parade will not count as an excused absence.

"Seattle is buzzing with excitement as we celebrate the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl victory! Moments like this bring our city together, spark pride across generations, and remind us of the power of shared experiences in our community," Seattle Public Schools Chief Operations Officer Fred Podesta said in a letter. "As the city plans celebrations, including a victory parade planned for Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m., we want families to know that Seattle Public Schools will remain open with the normal early-release Wednesday schedule.

Sam Darnold’s NFL journey has been nothing short of inspiring.

The quarterback finally got to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy with his Seattle Seahawks, his fifth NFL team, Sunday in Santa Clara.

Darnold was the third overall pick out of USC in 2018 to the New York Jets, where he was hoping to take the team out of playoff purgatory and cement himself as one of the greats for "Gang Green."

Instead, Darnold found himself out of New York after three seasons, traded to the Carolina Panthers and beginning his move from the East Coast to West Coast.

After battling with Baker Mayfield in Carolina, Darnold eventually landed as Brock Purdy’s backup with the San Francisco 49ers. Then he got another shot at starting in the league with the Minnesota Vikings, leading them to a 14-3 record.

The success Darnold found led to choices in free agency, every player’s dream. He went with the Seahawks, reuniting with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, and the rest is now history.

So, as Darnold sat at a Raising Cane’s to celebrate with a "shift" in front of Seahawks fans after the 29-13 victory, ӣ��Ƶ Digital asked him what lesson might be learned from his journey through the league.

"I really think it’s about believing in yourself and taking it one day at a time," he said over the phone. "I think, if there’s any lesson, it’s that. Continue to be yourself in any situation and always believe in yourself."

Darnold’s belief led him to this point. And he got a taste of what Wednesday will be like at the parade in Seattle when Seahawks fans flocked to Raising Cane’s to see their Super Bowl-winning quarterback.

"It’s unbelievable, man," he said. "I mean, the warm welcome I got with fans was just pretty special. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it. It’s just unlike anything I’ve seen.

"They’ve shown up for us all season, all the way to the end. So, I’m very thankful to be playing here in Seattle with these fans."

ӣ��Ƶ Digital spoke with Darnold in March 2025 when he made the decision to join the Seahawks after they had just traded Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders, making the starting quarterback spot open. He said he loved the mutual interest and believed in head coach Mike Macdonald and the group of guys already in the building.

Darnold was simply hoping to fit in and help lead the team to the promised land. Mission accomplished.

"Clearly, I made the right decision," he said almost one year later. "It’s been a very special ride with this group, with my teammates and the coaching staff that we had this year.

Seattle Seahawks fans took to the streets near Lumen Field to celebrate the team’s second Super Bowl championship win on Sunday. The Seahawks beat the New England Patriots, 29-13.

Seahawks fans were spotted climbing light poles, lighting fireworks, waving flags and causing other kinds of pandemonium in Seattle. Some revelers were even seen climbing the Pioneer Square pergola, which prompted a response from police on social media.

"This one is for the people who are on the pergola. Why? Please stop," police wrote on X.

Fans will have another chance to revel in the team’s Super Bowl win during the parade. The championship celebration will take place on Wednesday, according to Seattle Councilmember Rob Saka. It will start in the stadium district and end at Seattle center.

Seattle used a dominant defensive performance to buoy their win over New England. The Seahawks forced Drake Maye to turn the ball over three times and they sacked him six.

The Seahawks put on an impressive defensive display in the team’s Super Bowl LX win over the New England Patriots, 29-13. Macdonald celebrated with his team on the field at Levi’s Stadium and was asked by NBC’s Maria Taylor what the win meant to him.

Macdonald, somehow, engineered a defense to deter Patriots quarterback Drake Maye the entire night. He made one or two clutch throws, but it was far from enough as Seattle made him uncomfortable throughout the night.

Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III was named the MVP of Super Bowl LX.

The fourth-year running back had 27 carries for 135 yards, making himself by far the best offensive player on the field.

Walker had no choice but to be the bell cow for the Seahawks after Zach Charbonnet tore his ACL in the NFC Championship game two weeks ago.

By the second quarter, Walker had already joined Timmy Smith and Marcus Allen with multiple 25-yard runs in a Super Bowl.

Walker was unable to find the end zone — in fact, Seattle’s only offensive touchdown came from A.J. Barner. However, Walker’s dominance on the ground helped get Seattle into scoring position. Jason Myers went 5-for-5 on his field-goal attempts after Walker’s ground-and-pound effort.

Walker’s 135 yards on the ground are tied for the eighth most in Super Bowl history and the second most he has ever had in a game, including playoffs.

Walker’s rushing prop had been hovering around 70 yards, which he surpassed in the first half.

The running back is also slated to be a free agent when the new NFL season begins next month, so it’s certainly not a bad way to go into the offseason.

Seahawks win Super Bowl LX after dominant defensive performance against Patriots

The Seattle Seahawks’ dominant defense led the way to a Super Bowl LX victory over the New England Patriots, 29-13, on Sunday night.

It’s the first time since 2013 that the Seahawks have won the Super Bowl, and it is some revenge for how the 2014 season ended with Patriots hero Malcolm Butler’s famous interception at the goal line to halt Seattle’s chances at back-to-back Lombardi Trophies.

This wasn’t an offensive shootout in this game, but rather a stellar defensive battle for both teams. But it was the Seahawks' defense that had constant pressure and disruption throughout, as well as the necessary turnovers crucial to winning a Super Bowl.

The Seahawks had a good start on the opening drive of the game, as Jason Myers kicked through a 33-yard field goal to start the scoring.

But it got slow in that department from there.

Drake Maye and the Patriots couldn’t get anything going against Seattle, the NFL’s top defense this season, punting on all five of their first-half drives until Maye kneeled out the remaining seconds in the second quarter.

Myers was able to kick through two more field goals for the Seahawks, as Sam Darnold and the offense were unable to find pay dirt. At this rate, though, a 9-0 first-half lead felt bigger because of how the Patriots’ offense was struggling.

The Patriots had just 51 total yards in the first half, with Maye going 6-for-11 for 48 yards and being sacked three times for a total loss of 30 yards.

Unfortunately for New England, the long wait to get back on the field for the second half after Bad Bunny’s halftime show didn’t change their fortune. They punted three more times before a back-breaking strip-sack by Derick Hall, which Byron Murphy II recovered on the Patriots’ 37-yard line.

With a 12-point lead, Darnold made sure NFL history wasn’t made as the only Super Bowl without a touchdown scored. He found tight end A.J. Barner wide open for a 16-yard touchdown on the ensuing possession.

However, Barner’s touchdown clearly woke up the Patriots’ offense, and desperation unlocked Maye a bit on the next drive. It was Mack Hollins making back-to-back big catches for New England, the first being a 24-yard catch to flip the field. Then, Maye went right back to the well, dropping a dime to Hollins on the left sideline for a 35-yard touchdown pass.

The Patriots had some momentum despite the 19-7 deficit on the scoreboard, and it helped that Darnold missed Rashid Shaheed for a long completion near the end zone to force a punt.

But Maye's poor night continued after an errant pass landed in the hands of Seahawks veteran safety Julian Love. Once again, the Seahawks made a turnover into points, this time with Myers kicking his fifth field goal of the night, and setting a new Super Bowl record for the most field goals in the "Big Game."

With a 15-point lead, the Seahawks continued to find success with a four-man rush. But it was another perfect blitz that saw multiple Seahawks get home, as Maye was strip-sacked again, this time with Uchenna Nwosu scooping up the football and running the ball 44 yards back for the game-sealing touchdown.

Maye was able to find Stevenson for a seven-yard touchdown with 2:21 left on the clock to make it a 29-13 game after the two-point try was unsuccessful. But the Patriots’ efforts were too little, too late in the end.

The Seahawks ran out the rest of the clock and exploded in celebration, as the No. 1 seed in the NFC completed an incredible 2025 season in the Bay Area.

In the box score, Kenneth Walker III had himself quite the game despite not finding the end zone. He set the tone on the ground with a whopping 135 yards rushing on 27 carries, while catching two passes for 26 yards.

With Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the 2025 Offensive Player of the Year, dealing with injury in this game, Cooper Kupp stepped up for the Seahawks with six catches for a team-leading 61 yards. Darnold finished 19-of-38 for 202 yards with a touchdown.

On the other side, Maye was 27-for-43 for 295 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, while the Seahawks sacked him six times for 43 yards lost. He led the team in rushing, too, with 37 yards, while Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson were held to a total of 42 yards on the night.

As the Super Bowl entered the fourth quarter, things got a little bit more intense on the Levi's Stadium field.

Stefon Diggs of the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks defensive back Josh Jobe grabbed each other’s face masks early in the fourth quarter and had to be separated, but not before a punch was thrown.

The incident came shortly after the Seattle Seahawks made it a 19-0 game.

Jobe pushed Diggs to the turf out of bounds, and Diggs got in Jobe’s face to return some pleasantries.

Diggs then grabbed Jobe’s face mask before Jobe returned with an open hand to Diggs’ head area. Kayshon Boutte and Mack Hollins then had to take Diggs away from the situation.

Jobe then threw a left fist at Diggs.

Refs did not catch Jobe's punch, so he stayed in the game.

New England Patriots wide receiver Kyle Williams helped corral a man who ran on the field during a brief pause at Super Bowl LX.

The ball was dead as NFL officials tried to break up an incident between Patriots star Stefon Diggs and Seattle Seahawks defensive back Josh Jobe. The two players were going at it and had to be pulled apart by NFL officials and their teammates in hopes of avoiding a penalty.

The man who ran on the field probably wished the security guards had their attention elsewhere. He carved up through the middle of the field. As Seahawks players watched the man blow past them, Williams ran down and helped security guards corner the fan.

The man was missing a shirt but Williams’ help was enough to aid the guards and take the man off the field.

Turning Point USA’s "All-American Halftime Show" took a moment to pay tribute to founder Charlie Kirk on Sunday as Kid Rock wrapped up one of his songs during the performance.

Kid Rock was the finale for the show that saw Lee Brice, Gabby Barrett and Brantley Gilbert sing. As he was wrapping up one of his songs, photos of Kirk, his wife Erika and their children were seen on the video boards that surrounded the stage.

"In remembrance of Charlie Kirk," was emblazoned across the photos as the broadcast played one of the conservative activist’s speeches. Kirk was assassinated in September during a speech on the campus of Utah Valley University.

The group delivered patriotic performances in what would counterprogram against the Super Bowl LX halftime show that featured Bad Bunny.

"This is real American," Gilbert said to start the show as he wore a "God, family country" T-shirt.

The livestream on YouTube garnered more than 4.8 million viewers before the show was finished. War Department Secretary Pete Hegseth also made clear that he and his family were watching the event.

Trump critics take issue with Green Day's Super Bowl LX performance

Green Day rocked Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, ahead of Super Bowl LX as the NFL honors Super Bowl MVPs of the past.

The punk rock band played "Holiday" and "American Idiot" – two of their most political songs – for fans who were trickling in before kickoff. However, the band refrained from taking jabs at President Donald Trump and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during their performance.

NFL and Green Day fans who tuned into the performance were hoping that the group would have more criticism for Trump and his administration with millions watching around the world.

One X user wrote that it was "b---h move" to avoid any politics.

"Green Day skipping the entire middle of ‘American Idiot’ with the ‘anti maga’ lyrics when they had the chance to sing it in front of millions during the current political state of our country is such a bitch move sorry," the X user wrote.

Another X user shared similar sentiments.

"Green Day could've blown that s--- up more than just by doing two political songs and cutting out the sauce from them," they wrote on X.

One user wrote that Green Day failed to do anything "meaningful."

"Green Day turning out to be performative losers was a pretty big disappointment," the person wrote. "They talk a whole bunch of talk but when given the opportunity to play at the biggest event in America they don't f---ing say ANYTHING meaningful. What a complete joke of a band"

Some BlueSky users were just as annoyed with the band.

"'American Idiot' still shreds but Green Day skipped the ‘sieg heil to the president’ part of ‘Holiday;’ Roger Goodell must've told Billie Joe there's a sniper trained on him from the rafters," one person wrote on the platform.

Former NFL punter Chris Kluwe added, "Green Day ruled, though I was hoping they were going to play the second verse of 'American Idiot.'"

Green Day’s performance ahead of the Super Bowl didn’t appear to be enough.

The band played at a pregame party Friday night at Pier 29 in San Francisco, where frontman Billie Joe Armstrong made a strong statement against ICE agents.

"To all the ICE agents out there, wherever you are, quit your s----y-a-s job. Quit that s----y job you have," Armstrong said during the show.

"Because when this is over — and it will be over at some point in time — Kristi Noem, Stephen Miller, JD Vance, Donald Trump, they’re gonna drop you like a bad f-----g habit. Come on this side of the line."

Armstrong also said the performance "goes out to Minneapolis" amid the protests and shooting deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. He also changed lyrics of "Holiday" from "the representative from California has the floor" to "the representative from Epstein Island has the floor."

Armstrong has been critical of the president in the past. He has likened Trump to Hitler, and the band frequently changes the line "I’m not part of a redneck agenda" from its 2004 hit "American Idiot" to "I’m not part of the MAGA agenda" in more recent live performances.

Turning Point US announced its lineup Monday for its alternate "All-American Halftime Show" to compete with the NFL’s performance featuring Bad Bunny.

Kid Rock will be the headliner for Sunday's show.

Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice and Gabby Barrett will also perform at the event.

TURNING POINT USA LAUNCHES RIVAL HALFTIME SHOW WITH STAR-STUDDED LINEUP AS NFL FACES SUPER BOWL BACKLASH

Vice President JD Vance also expressed his excitement for the event on X.

"Fantastic lineup for the TPUSA halftime show, including the great Bob Ritchie AKA KID ROCK," he posted on the social media platform.

How do you watch ‘The All-American Halftime Show?’

Turning Point USA said the show will air live on YouTube, Rumble and other conservative news outlets. The company said Sunday it would not stream on X due to "licensing restrictions."

Oddsmaker reveals most popular betting trends for Super Bowl, how gamblers could cash out

The Super Bowl marks the biggest gambling day of the year, and as it becomes more prevalent, there are plenty of more options.

DraftKings, of course, has taken notice of what fans may like, giving oddsmaker Johnny Avello quite the fun job for Super Bowl LX and the entire season leading up to it.

Bets simply used to be spreads, moneylines or over/unders, but Avello saw a trend and ran with it.

"The props that really do write the most money over the last two, three years? That would be touchdown scorers," Avello told ӣ��Ƶ Digital on radio row.

"We started off three, four years ago with first touchdown scorer, and that was the bet: first touchdown scorer in every game. And now we're up to anytime scorer in every game, and then two touchdown scorers, three touchdown scorers, last touchdown scorer. That is the prop that has the most growth over the last two or three years."

Avello also said he enjoyed taking a deep dive into next-gen stats, including the fastest ball carrier, farthest thrown ball, and other similar wagers that cannot be determined simply from the box score.

The Super Bowl is also the king of the prop bet, including national anthem length, Gatorade color and other miscellaneous wagers. But Avello decided to give in to NFL history for one available bet.

"We put up a prop: Will the Seahawks have a one-yard passing attempt, and will they complete it?" Avello said, noting that it's a play on Super Bowl XLIX, which, like this year, featured the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots. That game, of course, is best known for Russell Wilson's interception by Malcolm Butler on the 1-yard line with Marshawn Lynch in the backfield.

Avello said most of the spread bets are on the favored Seahawks to cover the 4.5-point spread, but lots of moneyline bets are on New England. And that would not be great for DraftKings.

"People who want to bet the Patriots say, "I don't need the 4.5 points. Patriots are gonna win straight up." That's the main reason for the Patriots taking the underdog on the moneyline, Avello said. "So we're kind of balanced out on the game."

"We do have a little bit of hazard on the Patriots to win the whole thing. We opened them, like, 70-1 to win the Super Bowl, but we also opened the Seahawks high, too. But they haven't taken anywhere near the money that the Patriots did. So we're in a little bit of jeopardy there."

Tom Brady plays coy on Super Bowl pick after coming under fire for lack of Patriots' support

Tom Brady came under fire from current and former New England Patriots players for saying he doesn’t have "a dog in the fight," and he has continued to send mixed signals about the big game.

Brady, 48, has ties to both teams. His ties to the Patriots are obvious, as he spent the majority of his career with them. His ties to the Seattle Seahawks, are less obvious.

The Las Vegas Raiders, of whom Brady is a minority owner, are reportedly set to hire Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak as their new head coach.

When asked by ӣ��Ƶ Digital who he thinks will win, he declined to give an answer.

"You tell me," Brady said with a smile. "Does anybody really know, or is it all just a guess?"

The 15-time Pro Bowler seemed to signal his support for the Patriots in a social media post on Friday.

While Brady was in California for the Super Bowl, he also opened his store, CardVault by Tom Brady, in San Francisco. The 15-time Pro Bowler said the turnout has been amazing.

"It was amazing. We had a great turnout. We opened in Sacramento yesterday, and we opened in San Francisco today, so it’s pretty cool."

Brady heard criticism from current and former Patriots players during the week.

"Personally it makes me sick," New England linebacker Robert Spillane said Thursday during a Super Bowl week media availability, via MassLive.com. "But, at the end of the day, [he's a Patriot]; he has a dog in the fight. So for him to say that, it is what it is. At the end of the day, he's an owner of the Las Vegas Raiders now, so he has to do what's best for him."
