Michele Tafoya blames George Floyd riots as 'turning point' for Minnesota downfall under Tim Walz

Senate candidate Michele Tafoya says Minnesota isn’t the "paradise" it used to be, arguing Gov. Tim Walz’s response to the riots following George Floyd's death made residents embarrassed of their home state.

"When the George Floyd riots happened, which was really a turning point in Minnesota, [Walz] didn't do anything for days," Tafoya said on the "Planet Tyrus" podcast. "If people remember, the governor was nowhere."

Tafoya, a former NFL sideline reporter, is currently running for a U.S. Senate seat in Minnesota. She characterized Walz's behavior during the 2020 unrest following Floyd's death as part of a pattern of "incompetence" that she claims led the state into decline.

Floyd’s death ignited a nationwide reckoning as multiple cities saw protests, with some devolving into violence and looting. In Minneapolis, where Floyd was killed, rioters set fire to the city's Third Police Precinct.

Tafoya argued Walz "let the police station burn down" and "kept police officers from doing their jobs and protecting people here in Minnesota."

At the time, Walz was criticized for what some saw as hesitation to send in the National Guard to calm the situation. However, the governor has consistently defended the state’s response.

"I’m proud of Minnesota’s response; I’m proud of Minnesota’s first responders who were out there, from firefighters to police to the National Guard, to citizens that were out there," Walz said during a previous gubernatorial debate, as reported by the Associated Press.

But Tafoya disagrees, arguing that the handling of the riots tarnished the reputation of the state. She said many Minnesotans no longer feel pride in their state.

"They're kind of embarrassed to say where they're from. And that's really sad, because honestly, we used to brag about being Minnesotans," she said.

Tafoya also criticized Walz over the fraud scandal that has rocked the state in recent months, involving an estimated billions in estimated lost taxpayer funds. She accused the governor of allowing the theft to happen under his watch, saying he has "overseen the complete destruction of a once great state."

Walz addressed the fraud allegations during a March House Oversight Committee hearing. He told lawmakers, "I’m going to prosecute every single person that’s involved in fraud, but we can’t do it alone."

He then argued that the federal government’s focus on Minnesota was part of "political retribution at an unparalleled scale."

FOX One announced a significant expansion of its podcast portfolio on Monday that includes eight series from FOX News Media and Red Seat Ventures, inaugurating a curated offering on the streaming service.

Fox Corporation's direct-to-consumer streaming service, FOX One, will add "Hang Out with Sean Hannity," "Ruthless," "The Riley Gaines Show," "Planet Tyrus" and "Will Cain Country," among others to its curated podcast offering.

The expanded lineup from Red Seat Ventures will feature "The Brett Cooper Show," "Keeping It Real: Conversations with Jillian Michaels," and "The President’s Daily Brief with Mike Baker."

FOX One began populating new episodes of the different series on April 20.

Hannity's podcast will air twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, delivering long-form, unfiltered conversations with compelling figures across culture, business, sports, politics and beyond from the ӣ��Ƶ personality's studio in Florida.

"Will Cain Country" debuts episodes daily, Monday-Friday, "The Riley Gaines Show" posts new episodes on Wednesday and Fridays, and "Planet Tyrus" releases episodes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

"The Brett Cooper Show" publishes content Tuesday-Friday, Jillian Michaels' podcast releases episodes on Wednesdays and Fridays, and "The President's Daily Brief" will run on Saturdays.

'To Catch a Predator' host Chris Hansen warns Roblox dangers far worse than past online chatrooms

Investigative journalist Chris Hansen warns parents about Roblox, comparing it to an amusement park where "kids are flying off" the rides.

The "To Catch a Predator" host sat down for the "Planet Tyrus" podcast to explain his findings and what he claims is a surge of grooming on the site. Hansen noted that the platform’s visual style, which features cartoon, customizable avatars, often masks the underlying dangers.

"It was shocking to me that you have this kids' game with characters that appear to be so innocent, like Lego characters, but I guess it just goes to show that predators will go wherever the children are," Hansen said.

Roblox is a gaming giant used by millions of children and teenagers. The company is facing a wave of legal challenges, including a lawsuit involving more than 140 people who argue the game’s design, such as open chat and private spaces, aided predators.

Several state attorneys general have also launched lawsuits against the company, accusing it of prioritizing profits over user safety.

Hansen investigated the platform for his streaming network, digging into allegations of child exploitation. He said today’s digital landscape is far more dangerous for children than early internet chatrooms.

"People ask, ‘Is the problem worse today than it was 22 years ago?’ The answer is yes, it's way worse because there are so many different platforms upon which adults can approach children," Hansen said.

A spokesperson for Roblox told ӣ��Ƶ Digital that "safety is at the core of everything we do," and noted they have a "multi-layered defense system" blending technology and strict policy enforcement to keep young people safe.

"We have always completely blocked the sharing of images or videos in chat and use rigorous filters designed to prevent the exchange of personal information," the company added.

They also pushed back against Hansen's claims, saying, "This characterization of Roblox is simply untrue and not what the vast majority of users experience on the platform every day."

However, Hansen called for greater accountability from the game developers meant to protect "vulnerable children."

"If kids are flying off a ride at an amusement park left and right, they have a responsibility to make that ride safer, so kids aren't flying off the ride. Roblox has a similar responsibility," he said.

Roblox has countered safety concerns, saying it has instituted safeguards such as content moderation, parental controls and age verification. It said that since January, it has required users to complete age checks to chat on the platform, limiting interaction to users of a similar age or people they already know.

"We take swift action against anyone found to violate our community standards and collaborate closely with law enforcement to hold bad actors accountable. While no system can be perfect, we will never stop innovating around safety and working with trusted partners to make Roblox better and safer."

U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon said critics who disapprove of the Trump administration’s plans to dismantle the federal department suffer from what she described as "Trump Derangement Syndrome."

McMahon discussed her unusual mandate from President Donald Trump to fire herself by eliminating the department and how politics should be handled in the classroom during an appearance on "Planet Tyrus."

"I think there is some 'Trump Derangement Syndrome' out there that they just have to push back automatically about it, and, ‘How crazy are you to think that you can do away, if you will, with the Department of Education?’" she told host Tyrus on his podcast this week.

Trump intends to shutter the Department of Education during his presidency, claiming that individual states can handle responsibilities without federal oversight.

McMahon revealed that when Trump offered her the role of education secretary, he encouraged her to fire herself.

"When he called and asked me to take on this job, he said, ‘Look, you're going to be successful when you fire yourself.’ And I said, ‘OK,’" she said. "And he said, ‘If everything works the way we want it to, you will be the last secretary of education.’ And I said, ‘Do you know what? It's a challenge, but I think it's the right thing to do.’"

McMahon studied to become a French teacher but never taught in a classroom. Instead, she co-founded World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) with her husband, Vince McMahon, and left the company in 2009 to pursue politics.

She argued that the federal Department of Education is unnecessary, citing that it's been operating since 1980.

"1980, and before that, the Title I funding was there, special needs funding was there — all of that was in place, and it managed to get done."

McMahon claimed her efforts to downsize the department will save taxpayers millions of dollars annually.

"We're relocating to a smaller building. So, we're going to save taxpayers about $4.5 million a year just relocating to a smaller building," she said.

The education secretary also discussed the positive role politics can play in a classroom if executed fairly, recalling a personal experience.

During the 1960 presidential election between Democrat John F. Kennedy and Republican Richard Nixon, McMahon said her teacher asked her to debate for the candidate she opposed.

"He said, ‘Who do you hope wins the election?’ And I said, ‘Well, I really do hope that Mr. Nixon wins the election, and here's why.’ And he said, ‘OK, so we're gonna have a debate in class, but you're gonna have to debate for Kennedy,’" McMahon explained.

"I had to debate the opposite side, and then the class voted as to which one, and I thought, that's the way you ought to teach."
