‘Quarantine Revival’: One ministry has seen 117,000 people profess faith during coronavirus

As churches and ministries are seeing record numbers online due to the coronavirus pandemic, one evangelist is calling it the "Great Quarantine Revival."

Nick Hall, the founder of PULSE and host of Fox Nation's "Bible Quarantine" series, saw more than 117,000 people from dozens of countries across the world put their faith in Jesus after hearing the gospel during virtual events he hosted.

“We were literally getting smartphone photos from all over the world — from Nigeria to India and China — of families gathering in their living rooms, around 18-inch cathode-ray TVs, laptops and HD screens watching our services,” Hall said in a statement to ӣ��Ƶ. “The doors to our church buildings may have been closed, but the church has not closed. We are living through a Great Quarantine Revival, and I think God is just getting started.”

The Minneapolis-based leader saw the massive responses during Holy Week.

On Good Friday, Pulse hosted a special service with talks by Hall, Christian scholar Ravi Zacharias, pastor and author Max Lucado, NFL Super Bowl Champion and Hall of Fame Coach Tony Dungy, Francis Chan, the Rev. Samuel Rodriguez and worship led by Lauren Daigle, Michael W. Smith, and duo Kari Jobe and Cody Carnes.

That service was broadcast in nearly 100 countries, including Japan, China, Nepal, Thailand, India, Kenya, Nigeria, Ukraine, and Russia, and was translated into 40 different languages.

“We had translators working in closed countries who were risking their lives to bring this message in their language to their people, because that’s how precious the gospel is to them,” Hall explained.

And days before that, Hall hosted a Leader Check-In on April 8, to encourage and uplift ministry leaders and pastors ahead of Easter, the Super Bowl of Sundays for Christians.

“This happened because I had a lot of friends that were calling me crying and in tears, overwhelmed by the situation — whether it was at home, in their business or in their church,” said Hall, who hosted the event. “And I simply called out to God and said, ‘God, what would it look like to bring together men and women to offer hope and perspective in this moment of need?’”

The answer came in the form of dozens of Christian leaders -- including "My Pillow" CEO Mike Lindell, author Bob Goff, Bible teacher and actress Priscilla Shirer, Ann Voskamp, Beth Moore, Sadie Robertson, David Platt, Lecrae, and Matt Maher -- who offered biblical advice and encouragement for the COVID-19 crisis.

Sen. James Lankford and Sen. Tim Scott spoke of the economic relief opportunities in the CARES Act, and America’s surgeon general, VADM Jerome M. Adams, M.D., M.P.H., provided infection prevention advice while asking viewers to pray for him and others who are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Top 10 Christian songs over the last year dominated by Lauren Daigle, Hillsong

Every week, millions of Christians sing praise and worship songs together, but what songs do individuals listen to the most?

Spotify, the top music streaming service named by Business Insider, released the most streamed Christian songs over the last year to ӣ��Ƶ.

Lauren Daigle's hit song "You Say," which broke the record for time spent at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs chart with 73 weeks in a row now, was also the top streamed song.

The 28-year-old Louisiana native had two other songs in the top 10, "Rescue" at No. 6, and "Look Up Child" at No. 8 --also the name of her latest album in 2018.

The second most streamed song is "Reckless Love" by Cory Asbury, about God's fatherly love for his children, a song he wrote after becoming a dad.

The Michigan native and Bethel Music Collective singer told ӣ��Ƶ last year, "No matter what you’re dealing with...you are never too far gone. His love will always be the way back home."

Hillsong UNITED, a leader in contemporary Christian worship music, along with Hillsong Worship, both out of the global church started in Australia, landed several spots in the top 10.

"Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)," which debuted in 2013, was the third most streamed Christian song.

Other Hillsong UNITED songs on the list include "So Will I (100 Billion X)" at No. 5 and "Whole Heart (Hold Me Now)" at No. 10.

Hillsong Worship's "Who You Say I Am" lands at No. 7, as the band is set to embark on a 28-city tour in the United States beginning in May.

“We have been humbled by the way God has been using the songs of our new studio album 'Awake' across His church and in the lives of individuals in the short time it has been out," Brooke Ligertwood, the singer-songwriter who leads Hillsong Worship, told ӣ��Ƶ.

North Carolina-based Elevation Worship has the No. 4 spot with "O Come to the Altar (Live)" and its song from 2016 "Do It Again" lands at No. 9.

Lauren Daigle wins big at Dove Awards: 'It's overwhelming'

Lauren Daigle was the big winner Tuesday at the 50th annual Gospel Music Association's Dove Awards, where she won artist of the year, song of the year and pop/contemporary album of the year.

The 28-year-old singer had the most nominations going into the awards show, held in Nashville, Tenn., and marks her second artist of the year win in just three years.

Her 2018 album, "Look Up Child," debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 all-genre chart and has broken chart records for weeks atop the Top Christian Albums chart. She won song of the year for her multiplatinum and Grammy-winning crossover single "You Say," which has introduced her to much wider audiences in the last year.

Producer and songwriter Jason Ingram, who helped write and record Daigle's record, also won four awards, including songwriter of the year, non-artist, and song of the year, which he co-wrote.

"Just to see the support of so many people, it's really, really moving. It's overwhelming," Daigle said after winning song of the year.

During his acceptance speech after winning gospel artist of the year, Grammy-winning gospel singer Kirk Franklin called for prayers after a Fort Worth, Texas, girl was killed by a police officer over the weekend. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for police accountability in Fort Worth, where Franklin lives.

"A young girl by the name of Atatiana Jefferson was shot and killed in her home by a policeman and I am just asking that we send up prayers for her family and for his, and asking that we send up prayers for that 8-year-old little boy that saw that tragedy," said Franklin, who also won contemporary gospel recorded song of the year.

This is not the first time that Franklin has spoken on the Dove Awards stage about police brutality, but when he urged Christian artists to speak out about racial injustice on the same awards show in 2016, his speech was edited when it was later broadcast on Trinity Broadcast Network.

Franklin told The Associated Press after the awards show that he's never been reluctant to speak about political topics, even President Donald Trump, who he has criticized for his immigration policies. He called it his responsibility as a Christian artist.

"I'll be quick to say that my heart is broken by the leadership of our president, that my heart is broken that he does not reflect any of the fruits of the spirit," Franklin said. "We do have the responsibility, the same responsibility that Dr. King had when he marched."

Franklin added: "This president does not reflect the spirit of a Christian."

Gabriel Alberto Azucena, who goes by the stage name GAWVI, won rap/hip hop recorded song of the year along with hip hop artist Lecrae for their song "Fight For Me" and Lecrae and Zaytoven won rap/hip hop album of the year for their collaborative album "Let the Trap Say Amen."

For King and Country, made up of Australian born-brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone, won pop/contemporary recorded song of the year for "God Only Knows." Joel Smallbone said that the song, which was recently re-recorded as a duet version with country superstar Dolly Parton, felt like "a gift from God."

The Dove Awards showed highlights from previous years including performances by Whitney Houston, Dolly Parton and DC Talk to honor the show's 50th anniversary, and the presenters and performers included longtime gospel music leaders like Bill Gaither, Shirley Caesar and Pat Boone.

When Hillsong UNITED's hit "Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)" reigned on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs chart for a record number of weeks, Lauren Daigle saw it and wished she could be a "part of something that shakes the earth like that song."

Now the 28-year-old Louisiana native is living out that reality with her song "You Say" at No. 1 for 62 weeks now in the Christian category, days after announcing the Lauren Daigle World Tour with Johnnyswim, beginning in Australia next year and ending in Lafayette July 2020.

"I really pondered the journey of the song 'Oceans,' and I remember seeing the impact that song made on so many people. It was just so beautiful to me," Daigle told Billboard after finding out that her song made chart history. "I didn't know that would ever happen, and I had no idea that 'You Say' would be something that would parallel the life of 'Oceans.'"

The song off her album, "Look Up Child," is about identity.

In a video about the story behind the song, Daigle said "You Say" was the first song she wrote after her previous album, on the heels of her first Dove Awards Show.

She added: "This entire song was so that every single night I would get up on stage and remind myself, 'No, this is the truth...Don't get buried in confusion. Don't get buried in waywardness, just remember to steady the course.'"

Daigle told ӣ��Ƶ in a previous interview that she wanted to do music from a young age and decided to do Christian music after auditioning for "American Idol" and realizing there was something different about her from other artists.

"I have this call in my heart to reach all people," Daigle explained. "It doesn't matter if they're in this block, or that block, my heart is for all people to know and encounter the love of God."

She became the first female to have a song on both the Christian Airplay and Adult Pop Songs in January, the Christian Post reported.

Pop star Selena Gomez is gushing about a popular Christian singer and her music.

She posted a video clip of Lauren Daigle singing her hit song, "Rescue," at a concert Sunday with a heartfelt caption to her 157 million followers on Instagram.

"This girl is a ball of sun," Gomez said. "She has an anointing that bursts out ferociously in her voice, words, and music."

Christian singer Lauren Daigle wants everyone to know God through her music

Contemporary Christian singer Lauren Daigle has seen her star rise in the past couple of years.

She is the fastest selling new artist in her genre in the past decade, has won multiple music awards, and her debut album reached No. 1 on the iTunes Christian chart.

Is Daigle humbled by her success? Yes. Surprised she has made a career out of singing? Not so much.

The Louisiana native has known since she was a little girl that she wanted to sing. But it was only at age 15, when she was bedridden due to an illness, that she says God came to her in "dreams and visions" to tell her she would one day become a singer.

"When I was about 15 is kind of when it all started to set into place," Daigle told FOX411. "I was placed on homebound for an illness and it was during that period that my heart just started coming alive for music."

Daigle explained that she had no energy due to the illness and would spend hours at a time sleeping.

"I had all of these dreams and visions that were coming to me, and I knew it was God telling me I could do this."

Once Daigle overcame her disease, she went on to try out for "American Idol" at 17 but didn't make it past Hollywood.

When she was eliminated, she knew it was time to "bite the bullet" and go to school. She also decided to take some time off to do missionary work in Brazil, but she never gave up on singing.

When an opportunity presented itself to sing backup vocals on a Christian artist's EP, Daigle jumped at the chance. When that singer had to undergo an emergency appendectomy right before a performance, Daigle was asked to fill in and that's when she was discovered by a record label who signed her.

"I took my hands off of it for a while and said, 'Whatever is supposed to happen, will happen.' And that's when it all started to get into place."

The vocal powerhouse was confident in her career choice, but she was scared to be labeled a Christian singer for fear she would lose many of her friends who were not Christian.

"When I was a kid and God was talking to me about music, I was like, 'Okay, I'll sing mainstream music' because I was afraid to sing Christian music to alienate my friends," Daigle said. "Honestly, it was going on 'Idol,' having that kind of exposure that I realized there's something different about me. I just crave God being a part of every moment."

The "How Can It Be" singer is not taking one day for granted and is using her fame to promote her belief in God.

"I have this call in my heart to reach all people," Daigle explained. "It doesn't matter if they're in this block, or that block, my hearts is for all people to know and encounter the love of God."

She added, "I love to sing all kinds of music but I know that my heart is for people to know God and I want them to experience his love."

It's not just Daigle who is having her moment; the entire faith-based entertainment industry has seen a boom in popularity thanks to performers like Daigle.

"I think there's a lot of chaos happening in the world right now and I think people want something solid to lean on," the 24-year-old shared. "I think these [faith-based] films that are coming out they offer hope...and I think that every person has a hunger for something good even if they don't realize it because the world is full of insecurities but people look for what's the one thing they can stand on."
