Ken Jennings on the 'Jeopardy!' prep trick he swears by and the category that made even him sweat

The host says US presidents and world capitals offer 'the most bang for your buck' when cramming for the show

Ken Jennings says that "Jeopardy!" fans who want to be contestants shouldn’t overthink their preparation.

"I would say watching the show is the best way to prep for the show," the host explained to Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital on the red carpet for the TCM Classic Film Festival. "If you watch ‘Jeopardy!’ like the rhythm of the host's voice will kind of get into your pulse. You'll know the kind of stuff that comes up, the kind of material. That's how you become a good ‘Jeopardy!’ player."

And if someone is trying to cram for the show, he suggests learning the U.S. presidents and their first ladies in order and world capitals.

"And I think those are the two things that is like the most bang for your buck if you're cramming for ‘Jeopardy!’" Jennings said, admitting that he did a "lot of studying" before his record-breaking run on the show in 2004 during which he won 74 straight games.

'JEOPARDY!' CONTESTANT CALLED LOOK-ALIKE OF 'BIG BANG THEORY' CHARACTER

And as a former contestant, Jennings admits he has "so much empathy" for players.

"Everybody there has passed a very hard test to be on the show. So really it comes down to who can perform under pressure because these people are not used to doing this with lights and camera and everything," he revealed, adding that some players "step up. It's like they'll suddenly become their best ‘Jeopardy!’ selves. And some are a little more deer in the headlights. I absolutely remember that. It's very overwhelming."

He added that he’s "always thinking about their well-being because I remember what that's like. It's intense."

‘JEOPARDY!’ HOST KEN JENNINGS RIPPED FOR ‘EXTREMELY PROBLEMATIC’ SEXIST CLUE, APOLOGIZES TO FEMALE PLAYER

And because of that compassion, Jennings tries to do things like help contestants make sure their interview stories will be interesting.

WATCH: KEN JENNINGS REVEALS THE BEST WAY TO PREP FOR ‘JEOPARDY!’

And he wishes he could help them when they make mistakes during the game.

"I saw somebody mess up her wager in Final Jeopardy! once, but once you lock in that wager, and she was just, ‘Oh no, I messed up the math,’" he said. "But I wish I could jump in and do people's math for them, but I'm not allowed, constitutionally."

'JEOPARDY!' CONTESTANT CALLS OUT GAME SHOW AFTER AWKWARD 'SEXIST' CLUE

Despite his historic run, even Jennings had categories that made him sweat a little.

"There was always a lot of hockey on ‘Jeopardy!’ When I was on, and maybe because of Alex being Canadian," he revealed, "and it turned out I did not know as much about ice hockey as a genuine Canadian like Alex."

Jennings, who has helmed the game show for five years now, said he feels like "doing an Alex Trebek impression is basically the best way to host ‘Jeopardy!’ Like, it's not a slavish thing. Like, he really perfected it, so if you're getting as close to Alex as you can, you're going as close perfection as you can."

He admitted that he doesn’t have the late Trebek’s "skill set," which is why he emulates him, but he said he differentiates himself by bringing his personality to the show.

WATCH: ‘JEOPARDY!’ HOST KEN JENNINGS SHARES THE 2 CATEGORIES THAT GIVE THE ‘BESTBANG FOR YOUR BUCK’Â

"You know, I genuinely enjoy the interview, I think, you know, and he was very much like, ‘OK, good for you. Let's get back to the game,’" Jennings said.

Jennings said he also learned from Trebek, who died in 2020, that the "host of ‘Jeopardy!’ is not the star. You shouldn't be paying attention to the host to ‘Jeopardy!’ Like, if everything's going well, the game and the contestants are the star and that's absolutely how it should be."

'JEOPARDY!' CHAMPION JAMIE DING HOPES WINNING STREAK SHOWS IMMIGRANTS 'IN A POSITIVE LIGHT'

For contestants, he said, it simply comes down to "who can perform under pressure."

And he especially looks forward to "Jeopardy!" tournaments "where we see our very best players playing each other and the viewers will know who they are, and they'll be like, ‘Oh, that's Amy Schneider. I love her.’ Or, you know, ‘That's Mattea Roach’ or Matt Amodio."

The 45-year-old said he loves to see the "Jeopardy!" veterans treated "like star athletes, like as a former nerd, trivia nerd myself, current trivia nerd, like that warms my heart, you know, to see people that excited about our little trivia game."

'WHEEL OF FORTUNE' CO-HOST VANNA WHITE ONLY WORKS 34 DAYS A YEAR

Jennings thinks it also might surprise some viewers to know a week of games is actually shot in one day.

WATCH: ‘JEOPARDY!’ HOST KEN JENNINGS EXPLAINS HOW HE WISHES HE COULD HELP CONTESTANTS

"I think a lot of viewers don't realize we do a full week at a time," Jennings explained. "Like, we do five ‘Jeopardy!’s in one day. So, when a player wins, they have to rush off stage, put on a new outfit. I put on a new suit. We come back out 10 minutes later, and then I tell the great lie, which is like yesterday on ‘Jeopardy!’ but it was not yesterday! It was 10 minutes ago. We're just fooling you."

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER

He explained that that means, "when players win for weeks at a time, like Jamie Ding has been doing in recent weeks, it's an endurance contest. That's a real marathon for them. They've got to play and then go back and play again."

‘WHEEL OF FORTUNE’ CONTESTANT KNOCKS RYAN SEACREST TO GROUND DURING BIZARRE MOMENT

And for Jennings, a love of trivia goes a lot deeper than a memorable run on the show.

LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? "Like, I'm very aware that this distinguishes me from other people. But for Alex, that was like a safe space. You know? ‘Jeopardy’ was a safe place for that."

He added, "There's certain kind of person where like, they need that safe space, you know, because curiosity is so important."

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Always humble, Jennings, admitted that he never thought in "a million years" that he would host the show.

"People would ask me, ‘Hey, like, if Alex were — you've been on Jeopardy for months --- if Alex were to retire, would you like to be a host?’ And I said, ‘That will never happen in a million years. They'll get a real broadcaster for this job. Everybody with a good TV resume is going to want this job, I'm not even going to get a tryout. Nobody is more surprised than me that I'm hosting ‘Jeopardy!’ but I just love this show so much. I feel very lucky."

'Jeopardy!' champion Jamie Ding hopes winning streak shows immigrants 'in a positive light'

The 33-year-old law student's run ended Monday in a loss after winning $882,605

Former "Jeopardy!" champion Jamie Ding told People magazine Monday that he hopes his massive winning streak can help put immigrants "in a positive light."

The 33-year-old New Jersey-based law student and housing policy administrator gained a following after winning 31 straight games of the long-running quiz show, the fifth-longest winning streak on the show behind fellow champions James Holzhauer, Matt Amodio, Amy Schneider and current show host Ken Jennings.Â

His run came to an end on Monday after losing to new player Greg Shahade, winning $882,605 in total prize money.

'JEOPARDY!' STAR JAMIE DING WINS OVER FANS WITH HUMBLE ATTITUDE DURING HISTORIC 28-GAME WINNING STREAK

In an exclusive interview, Ding remarked how important it was "as an immigrant and a person of color" that he "was able to become part of the history of an American institution."

"'Jeopardy!'Â really is an institution and America's turning 250 years old and the federal government is going after immigrants in a way unlike anything that we've seen in the recent past," Ding said. "So I hope that immigrants can be seen in a positive light too."

'JEOPARDY!' He previously spoke to People about his views as an immigrant when asked about what he planned on doing with his winnings.

'JEOPARDY!' "Some organizations could really use the money because the federal government is making so many cuts and things are getting so expensive, and it's a tough time out there for so many people."

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Ding added, "I haven't committed to anything definitive yet, but it's tough out there for immigrants.
'Jeopardy!' star Jamie Ding wins over fans with humble attitude during historic 28-game winning streak

Fans say they've started mimicking the law student's small wave, while family members are tuning in for the first time

"Jeopardy!" contestant Jamie Ding is continuing his hot streak on the long-running game show while winning over fans at home.

On Tuesday's episode of "Jeopardy!," the 33-year-old New Jersey-based law student and housing policy administrator notched his 28th straight victory with a current total of $774,601 in earnings.

Ding has become one of the show's most dominant players in history as only four previous champions, including now "Jeopardy!" host Ken Jennings, Amy Schneider, Matt Amodio and James Holzhauer have had longer runs.

'JEOPARDY!' CONTESTANT CALLS OUT GAME SHOW AFTER AWKWARD 'SEXIST' CLUE

Meanwhile, though even some of the most successful contestants have divided "Jeopardy!'s" passionate and often opinionated audience, Ding has enjoyed overwhelming popularity with fans, who have said that they are impressed with his low-key demeanor and humble attitude even as he continues to dominate the board.

"It never comes off as cocky," "Jeopardy!" fan Lonny Starsky told the Wall Street Journal. "He almost seems embarrassed when he wins."

In his on-screen introduction, Ding is identified as a "bureaucrat and law student," a description he chose for himself. In one fan-favorite moment, Ding joked that he was a "faceless bureaucrat" during the contestant interview portion of the show.

Ding has become known for his understated reactions and his small wave during introductions, which fans have begun copying at home.

"Now I do it every time, too. I just smile at the TV and wave," Starksky said, who credits his grandmother Judy Robinson with starting the tradition.

Early in his "Jeopardy!" run, Ding told Jennings that orange is his favorite color. Since then, he has worn a shade of orange on his top during every episode, another quirk that viewers say they have found endearing. The color is also a nod to Ding's alma mater, Princeton University.

During a recent interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Ding shared insight on his wardrobe choices and joked about how he handles fans' reactions to his outfits.

'JEOPARDY!' "You also have to be emotionally prepared to learn about all the random stains or tiny holes in your clothing you never noticed before."

In addition to winning over fans with his personality, Ding has also inspired audience enthusiasm with his superior gameplay.

Known for his buzzer speed and wide-ranging knowledge, Ding has correctly responded across nearly every category he has encountered, putting up numbers that rival some of the biggest names in the show’s history, including Jennings. In one early appearance, he tied Jennings’ record for most correct responses in a single game.

Some fans have said that family members who previously had little interest in "Jeopardy!" have started tuning in just to watch his run. Starkey said that his mother, who previously avoided watching "Jeopardy!," has become invested in Ding's journey.

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER

"Now she texts me every day when he’s on, ‘Oh my God, Jamie’s doing so good!’" Starsky said. "She didn’t even start watching the show til like last week."

Ding’s path to "Jeopardy!" began as a child when he started competing in events including the 2004 National Geographic Bee, which was hosted by Alex Trebek that year. Ding previously revealed that he didn't recognize the "Jeopardy!" icon as Trebek was not sporting his signature mustache.

LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING?
‘Jeopardy!’ audience stunned after ‘Abbott Elementary’ star drops on-air expletive

Lisa Ann Walter finished with a negative score of -$2,600 after cursing when host Ken Jennings corrected her wrong answer

"Jeopardy!" audience members were stunned when Lisa Ann Walter let an expletive slip during a recent episode of the hit game show.Â

While competing against technology manager Mike Dawson and marketing specialist TJ Fisher on "Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions" Monday, the 62-year-old actress, who was already trailing by -2,200 points, cursed on air after giving an incorrect answer.Â

The clue said, "The Detroit News has reported on the quagga species of this type of bivalve, which has devastated the Great Lakes ecosystem."

‘JEOPARDY!’ FANS CALL OUT CONFUSING FINAL JEOPARDY CLUE: ‘NOT THE FIRST WORD I’D USE'

"What is an oyster?" the "Abbott Elementary" star guessed.

"Sorry, not an oyster," host Ken Jennings told her, to which she responded, "What the hell?"

The "Parent Trap" actress's unexpected reaction drew a few laughs and surprised gasps from members of the studio audience, according to Entertainment Weekly.Â

Walter's on-air slip-up also sparked debate on social media, though many "Jeopardy!" fans defended her reaction as a relatable moment under pressure.Â

"Did not have Lisa Ann Walter casually breaking the Jeopardy! decorum on my bingo card," one viewer wrote on X.Â

"Hell isn’t a curse word," another argued. "She’s a lovely person and a fantastic actress. Who cares if she did curse. So many other things that are going on are worse than hearing a curse word."

"She's human. Shocker!" one X user commented.

Walter's gaffe also sparked conversation on Reddit, with one "Jeopardy" viewer writing, "How do we feel about Lisa cursing?"

"Did she say anything other than "hell"?" another fan replied.

'JEOPARDY!' "Life's gotta be hard if you'll let something that mild get under your skin."

"I curse while watching so much; especially when a contestant gets a wrong response for some BS," one viewer added.

Walter finished the episode with a negative score of –$2,600, disqualifying her from competing with her fellow contestants in "Final Jeopardy!"

While Walter may have been disappointed with her performance on her latest episode of "Jeopardy," she previously won the show when she competed on Season 2 of "Celebrity Jeopardy!" in March 2024.

Walter walked away with $1 million in winnings, which she donated to the Entertainment Community Fund, a nonprofit that supports professionals working in the entertainment industry.

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER

At the beginning of Monday's episode, Walter revealed that she plans for her "Celebrity Jeopardy!" trophy to hold her ashes after her death.Â

"I’m going to be buried in it; it’s my urn," the actress said, according to EW. "I fought for it, I won it and it’s going to go to good use. And I’m not kidding. It is now in my will."

LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? Walter joked that it was the first time her mother had "visited" her since her death, saying she gave her the crucial line, "The butler did it."

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

While appearing on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"
'Jeopardy!' host Ken Jennings says 2028 candidate who vows to prosecute Trump 'regime' 'has my vote'

The game show host has a history of anti-Trump comments

"Jeopardy!" host Ken Jennings appeared to take a swipe at President Donald Trump and his administration, saying he'd support a candidate who vows to prosecute the current "regime."

Jennings took to the liberal social media platform Bluesky Wednesday during a news cycle dominated by the ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis.Â

"The ‘prosecute the former regime at every level’ candidate has my vote in 2028," Jennings wrote.Â

On Tuesday, he appeared to knock Trump's policy on Venezuela, writing on Bluesky, "America is always like ‘ok but the NEXT regime change will work,’ like when I ‘cut out carbs’ briefly every January."

‘JEOPARDY!’ STAR KEN JENNINGS APOLOGIZES FOR ‘INSENSITIVE' TWEETS — INCLUDING ONE ABOUT BARRON TRUMP

Sony Pictures Television, which produces the syndicated game show; Jennings; and representatives for Jennings did not immediately respond to Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital's requests for comment.Â

Jennings, who began co-hosting "Jeopardy!" in 2021 and became the solo host in 2023, has had a history of liberal, anti-Trump commentary.Â

'JEOPARDY!' STAR KEN JENNINGS ON THE BEST ADVICE ALEX TREBEK EVER GAVE HIM

In 2017, the former "Jeopardy!" champion mocked Trump's 11-year-old son Barron, who reportedly believed that the infamous photo of liberal comedian Kathy Griffin holding a prop of the president's bloodied severed head was real after seeing it on television.

"Barron Trump saw a very long necktie on a heap of expired deli meat in a dumpster. He thought it was his dad & his little heart is breaking," Jennings wrote in a since-deleted post on Twitter (now called X).

Jennings initially defended the post amid backlash, writing, "The joke doesn't mock Barron. It mocks using him for political cover."

In 2018, Jennings poked fun at what he called an "awful MAGA grandma" in response to a social media post from a woman who remembered her late disabled son who was a fan of the iconic '80s TV character "Alf."

In January 2020, Jennings offered his support to senators Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., during the Democratic primary, posting, "Remember, defending champion Ken Jennings wants you to vote for Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren."

When he was under consideration to replace longtime "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek after his Trebek's death, Jennings issued a broad apology for his past "insensitive" tweets.

"I just wanted to own up to the fact that over the years on Twitter, I've definitely tweeted some unartful and insensitive things. Sometimes they worked as jokes in my head, and I was dismayed to see how they read on screen," Jennings wrote in December 2020.Â

"In the past, I'd usually leave bad tweets up just so they could be dunked on. At least that way they could lead to smart replies and even advocacy. Deleting them felt like whitewashing a mistake. But I think that practice may have given the impression I stand by every failed joke I've ever posted here. Not at all!" he continued.

"Sometimes I said dumb things in a dumb way and I want to apologize to people who were (rightfully!) offended. It wasn't my intention to hurt anyone, but that doesn't matter: I screwed up, and I'm truly sorry."

CLICK HERE FOR THE LATEST MEDIA AND CULTURE NEWS

Jennings' latest post is likely in reference to the Department of Homeland Security's response to the fatal shooting in Minneapolis. DHS accused a woman who was shot behind the wheel of a vehicle of "domestic terrorism" by targeting an ICE agent in front of her.

Critics are accusing the agent of using excessive force.Â

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

James Earl Jones clue stumps all three players despite his iconic Darth Vader voice role

The "Jeopardy!" stage turned into a pop culture battleground this week after contestants failed to identify one of Hollywood’s most legendary actors.

In a recent episode of the beloved game show, viewers were left stunned when all three contestants couldn’t come up with the name of James Earl Jones, whose voice was linked to some of the most memorable moments in film history.

During Monday night’s show, "Jeopardy!" host Ken Jennings presented the category "Sesame Street." Â

HARRISON FORD ADMITS WHAT KEEPS HIM GOING IN HOLLYWOOD

One of the clues read, "Throughout the years, lots of people have stopped by ‘Sesame Street’ like Alex Trebek and Ken Jennings," the Oscar the Grouch character began to say from his trash can.Â

"Why can’t they leave a grouch alone? But, the very first was this guy, who recited the alphabet for us."

As Jennings read the clue, a black-and-white photo of Jones popped up on the screen.

The buzzer went off as the "Jeopardy!" contestants drew a blank.

"That’s James Earl Jones," Jennings revealed, referring to the voice icon, who died on Sept. 9, 2024, at the age of 93.

On the official "Jeopardy!" social media account, fans didn’t hold back — quickly calling out the contestants for failing to recognize one of the most iconic voices in Hollywood history.

LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? I weep," another comment read.

Jones was best known for his voice role as Darth Vader in the "Star Wars" franchise, in addition to "Coming to America," "Field of Dreams" and "The Hunt for Red October."

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER

The award-winning actor passed away at his home in Dutchess County, New York, surrounded by family, his representative shared in a statement to Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital at the time.Â

Jones is one of the few entertainers to have achieved EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony awards) status.Â

Over his illustrious career, he claimed two Primetime Emmy Awards, a Grammy and three Tony Awards — solidifying his legacy in television, music and theater.

While Jones did not win a competitive Oscar, he was presented with the Honorary Academy Award by Sir Ben Kingsley.

Jones launched his career in theater in the early ‘50s.
'Jeopardy!' under fire after James Bond clue leaves viewers frustrated

Game show fans argued the question was 'poorly phrased' and 'convoluted'

"Jeopardy!" is taking some heat for a confusing James Bond clue.Â

Earlier this week, a Final Jeopardy prompt about the beloved film franchise left fans scratching their heads, as they argued that the clue was "convoluted."

During an episode that aired on July 7, host Ken Jennings announced that "Movie Music" was the category for the Final Jeopardy clue.Â

‘JEOPARDY!’ HOST KEN JENNINGS HAS ‘100% EMPATHY’ FOR CONTESTANTS' SHOW FAILS

"The last 2 best song Oscar winners whose titles were the same name as the movie they were in had this man in the leading role," the clue read.

Contestant Ashley had begun writing down actor Timothee Chalamet as her answer, which Jennings said was incorrect.Â

The second contestant, Vince, wrote down, "Who is Daniel Craig," which was the correct answer.

The films referenced in the clue were 2012's "Skyfall" and 2021's "No Time to Die." Adele sung the title song for the earlier film, while Billie Eilish performed the other.

LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? I assumed they were asking about the last 2 Best Song winners: 2024 and 2025. The strength of the comma!" one viewer wrote in the comments section of the "Jeopardy!" YouTube page.Â

Another fan wrote, "They're looking for Craig as the correct response, but I wonder if they would have accepted Bond as an answer. When the clue says leading role, it doesn't specify if they are asking for actor or character..."

While another viewer chimed in on X, formerly known as Twitter, "Who is James Bond? Kinda convoluted FJ but manageable."

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER

As passionate fans called out the Final Jeopardy prompt, game show host Jennings had previously said that he had "100% empathy" for the contestants’ show fails.Â

While Jennings knows it’s not easy to compete on the show, having once been a contestant himself, he told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital in April that his "heart just goes out to these people" who participate in the show.

WATCH: ‘JEOPARDY!’ HOST KEN JENNINGS SHARES KEY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIM AND ‘PERFECT’ ALEX TREBEK

"It’s their first time on TV, and we throw them into this crucible.

A "Jeopardy!" contestant had fans seeing double as they pointed out his strong resemblance to a beloved character from the hit sitcom "The Big Bang Theory."

On April 18, undergraduate student Liam Starnes from Barrington, Illinois, made his debut on the long-running game show when he faced off against fellow contestants Rachel Gray and one-day champion Steven Hoying.Â

During the episode, viewers flocked to social media where they called Starnes a look-alike of genius physicist Sheldon Cooper, the character played by Jim Parsons throughout "The Big Bang Theory's" 12-year run.

"Seriously, that's Sheldon!!!!!!!" a fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

"Liam looks like a real life Sheldon Cooper," another social media user commented.

‘JEOPARDY!’ FANS CALL OUT CONFUSING FINAL JEOPARDY CLUE: ‘NOT THE FIRST WORD I’D USE'

"Big time Sheldon Cooper vibes from Liam," one fan wrote, while another chimed in, "Liam looks like Sheldon Cooper's little brother."

"Liam on #Jeopardy looks like he could be Jim Parsons' much younger brother," another viewer agreed.

With $19,600, Starnes was in the lead heading into Final Jeopardy! He emerged triumphant over Gray and Hoying after correctly guessing the answer and wagering $12,801, which brought his total to $32,401.

"I never doubted teenage Sheldon for a minute! Congrats Liam," a fan wrote following Starnes' win.

After claiming the title of one-day champion from Hoying, Starnes returned for Monday night's episode of "Jeopardy!" and viewers once again noted his likeness to Sheldon.

"SHELDON IS LEGIT ON #JEOPARDY RIGHT NOW... The contestant, who wagered $10,000 of his $10,600 in winnings, noted that his response was "almost Lilluputian." Jennings agreed, adding that Wallace had likely run out of time to write the characters' full name.

Wargin's first guess was "What are Lilliputians?" before he crossed the answer out and wrote, "dwarves."Â

Jennings then informed the contestants that "What is a Munchkin?" was the correct answer.Â

"In the 1939 movie of ‘The Wizard of Oz,' the Munchkins are very small, but in the book, the Munchkins are said to be about Dorothy's height," Jennings told them.

Wargin, who was in the lead heading into the final round with $16,000, had bet $5,201, which dropped him down to $10,799.

However, as a four-day "Jeopardy!" champion, Wargin's total winnings were $70,199.

LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? Frank Baum's 1900 children's novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz."

Boq is featured in both books, but he was not included in the classic 1939 movie "The Wizard of Oz," which starred Judy Garland.

After "Wicked" was released last November, the film became a major blockbuster, raking in $747.2 million worldwide against a $150 million budget. The movie is now the highest-grossing musical film adaptation of all time. "Wicked" also received 10 nominations at the 2025 Academy Awards, including nods for Erivo as best actress and Grande as best supporting actress.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

The movie took home Oscars for best costume design and best production design.Â

Slater is set to return as Boq, along with Erivo as Elphaba and Grande as Galinda, in part two of "Wicked," titled "Wicked: For Good."
'Jeopardy!' contestants slammed by fans for not knowing famous 'Shaft' actor

The late Richard Roundtree was best known for portraying 'first Black action hero' in his standout role in 1971 film 'Shaft'

Three "Jeopardy!" contestants were criticized by viewers after being stumped over a pop culture question.

During Wednesday's episode of the beloved game show, contestants Melanie Hirsch, John Rindone and Josh Weikert were given a clue for the category "Be My TV Show Guest" that read: "This star of the O.G. 'Shaft' guest starred as two different characters on 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.'"

'JEOPARDY!' Shut yo mouth!"

"They didn't know Richard Roundtree?!" another asked.Â

"Richard Roundtree! I think we're all screaming!" one fan added.Â

Roundtree, who died in 2023 after a battle with pancreatic cancer, starred alongside Will Smith in the hit '90s sitcom "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" as two different characters, Dr. Mumford and Rev. He reprised his role for the CBS series in 1973. He later appeared on the hit television miniseries "Roots" as the carriage driver Sam Bennett.Â

Last week, a similar situation occurred when three contestants were left stumped by a final puzzle about the hit '80s show "Cheers."

During Tuesday night’s "Final Jeopardy!" round, fans called the clue a "triple stumper" after each contestant failed to answer correctly.
'Jeopardy!' host Ken Jennings remembers thinking 'I don't want to be here' during first show

Ken Jennings took over as host of 'Jeopardy!' for Alex Trebek after his death in 2020

Ken Jennings had a moment while hosting "Jeopardy!" when he didn't want to be a part of the show anymore.

During an interview with Rolling Stone, Jennings admitted that when he was asked to take over for Alex Trebek after his death in 2020, he wasn't worried about his first episode.

He was more concerned about the grief and mourning he and the show's staff were experiencing over the loss of Trebek.

'JEOPARDY!' It was very scary. You’re aware that the audience does not want you there. They’re like me, they want the other guy, and I was missing him too. I’m like, ‘I don’t want to be here. I would give anything to not be here right now,’" Jennings told the outlet.

LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

"Jeopardy!" showrunner Michael Davies told Rolling Stone that the original plan after Trebek's passing was to rotate among several hosts to helm the show, but Jennings stood out from the potential candidates.Â

"I saw the look that the contestants would have when he’d walk out on the stage. Or his facility with the material," Davies said. "I remember at one point, somebody buzzed in and gave the wrong response, and they said, ‘Who is Gainsborough?’ And he said, ‘Oh, no, I’m sorry, it’s Gainsborough’s great rival,’ and named some other obscure artist. It was just a moment, [but] who on earth other than Ken Jennings could have that moment?"

In 2021, Jennings and Mayim Bialik were named as the new permanent hosts of the show. In December 2023, Bialik announced that she'd been let go from the job.

Jennings also shared that he had discussed the idea of taking over the game show with Trebek, saying the first time was when he spoke with him about recording a portion of his audiobook, which was released in 2020.

"That was the first time I ever had a conversation with him that was [about] torch passing, and even that was kind of very unspoken," Jennings said.

Jennings' career with "Jeopardy!" began 20 years ago as a contestant. Over the course of 74 consecutive games, Jennings won more than $2.5 million.Â

In his interview with Rolling Stone, he addressed the future of "Jeopardy!" and said the game show has the power to "unify" people.

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER

"'Jeopardy!' is a weirdly unifying thing," Jennings said. "Young people, old people, red states, blue states – it’s an institution that has this universal acceptance. Whatever the forces of anti-science and fake news and whatever are, they seem to have some carve-out for ‘Jeopardy!’ Maybe because it’s a game?"Â

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

"This is a place where nobody says, ‘Why are you doing a category about dinosaurs? Dinosaurs aren’t real.’ Or, ‘Why are you mentioning the moon landing? We never went to the moon.’ For whatever reason, ‘Jeopardy!’ seems to be immune from that, and maybe that’s a good sign," he concluded.

"‘My Heart’s In The Highlands‘ is the name of the poem," Jennings explained.

However, Dorey's answer lacking the "s" on the end confused fans.

‘JEOPARDY!’ FANS OUTRAGED OVER TAYLOR SWIFT, TRAVIS KELCE DISS IN ‘NASTY’ CLUE

"I’m confused," one user wrote on Reddit. "If a FJ contestant gives a singular name though the correct title is plural, it’s accepted. But if they write that singular and are starting to add s when time runs out, it isn’t?"

"Little confused by that myself," another responded. "I thought if the answer was a word in a title, the answer needed to be the title word, not a version thereof."

One user gave their own interpretation of Wednesday's "Jeopardy!" ruling, which left Dorey the game champ:

"My interpretation of this ruling is: If the clue specifically wanted the full title and he wrote ‘My Heart’s in the Highland’, that would be incorrect. But since they just wanted the word rather than the full title, they’ll take singular or plural."

LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

Other Reddit users and fans noted the ruling on a similar word instead of the correct word was "crazy."

"Crazy ruling," one wrote. "They shouldn’t be giving credit for similar words. The clue asked for a word in the poem title. Highland is not in the title."

"Based on today’s FJ ruling, if the clue is about a fruit in the title of a Steinbeck novel and I write ‘What is Grape?’, I guess that’s acceptable," another added.

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER

Dorey chimed in on Reddit to reflect on his "Jeopardy!" answer.

"I'm pretty sure the longest 10 seconds of my life were me trying to figure out whether I should put an ‘s’ at the end of Final," he explained. "I didn't know the poem so I pretty much had the same debate that raged in this thread against myself – ‘Highlands’ was the place but the phrase ‘Highland Lass’ stuck in my head – did Burns have a poem called ‘To A Highland Lass’? (turns out that phrase actually comes from a Wordsworth poem, so swing and a miss) Which to go with? I figured with FJ, they can't ask me to be more specific, so less is more and I'll leave the judges to decide, and this time I got lucky. They didn't have to stop and confer; it pretty much played out as you saw it so they must have anticipated that potential answer."

"Overall, what an amazing game – I think the entire second half of DJ my eyes were just back and forth between the scores and the board – living and dying with each back and forth," he added.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

"I have fun with it."

The couple have supported each other during performances and football games throughout the year.

Kelce spent the off-season traveling Europe watching Swift perform on her record-breaking "Eras Tour."

LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING?
'Jeopardy!' contestant calls out game show after awkward 'sexist' clue

'Jeopardy!' player Heather Ryan is a health program director from Binghamton, New York

"Jeopardy!" contestant Heather Ryan is speaking out after she experienced an awkward encounter on the beloved game show.Â

Ryan, a health program director from Binghamton, New York, admitted the "sexist" clue that caused quite the buzz on "Jeopardy!" made her feel "uncomfortable."

During the episode that aired on Oct. 28, host Ken Jennings read a clue from the category "Complete the Rhyming Phrase."

‘JEOPARDY!’ HOST KEN JENNINGS RIPPED FOR ‘EXTREMELY PROBLEMATIC’ SEXIST CLUE, APOLOGIZES TO FEMALE PLAYER

The prompt read, "Men seldom make passes at…".

Returning champion Will Wallace correctly answered, "Girls who wear glasses."

The questionable phrase was from acclaimed poet Dorothy Parker.

"It is definitely an odd choice," Ryan, the female contestant who wore glasses on the show, shared with Binghamton University’s newspaper Pipe Dream.

‘JEOPARDY!’, ‘WHEEL OF FORTUNE’ ACCUSED OF RACE, GENDER, AGE DISCRIMINATION

"I think it made everybody in the audience and on stage, and Ken Jennings too, a little uncomfortable. It was like, ‘Oh, that was unexpected.’"

"Maybe we choose better rhyming phrases in 2024," she suggested.

Ryan continued to explain how controversial the "Jeopardy!" clue was and the impact it can have on young female students.

"Unfortunately, there are still girls who are [in] middle school, and they don’t want to wear their glasses, and they’re losing out on their education," she argued. "So, I think it’s much better to be able to see than anything else."

Despite the tense situation, Ryan shared she had a "great time" on the game show.Â

"Everybody there was very welcoming. It’s such a part of American culture that I definitely wanted to go on when I got the call for it."

"It’s just a very special thing to play a small role in this big part," she said. "It’s been running for 40 years, and so I got to play my part in it."

On the "Jeopardy!" episode, Jennings recognized the prompt may have made Ryan uncomfortable since she wore glasses on the show.Â

"A little problematic, sorry, Heather," Jennings remarked.Â

LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING?
'Jeopardy!' fans blame Ken Jennings for robbing contestant after ‘messy’ answer

An 'illegible' answer during 'Final Jeopardy!' sparked debate among fans

What is "messy?"

During Wednesday night’s "Jeopardy!" episode, game show fans called out host Ken Jennings for a questionable ruling.Â

While a contestant named Rishabh was determined to continue his winning streak, other "Jeopardy!" players put up a good fight during the intense game show.Â

As the episode concluded with the "Final Jeopardy!" round, players were faced with the category "College Towns."

'JEOPARDY!' REFERENCES MAYIM BIALIK IN CLUE 1 YEAR AFTER SHE WAS FIRED

Jennings read the prompt, "Two schools in the Southeastern Conference are located in cities with this same name but in different states."

Rishabh, an Illinois native who is currently a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania, played against environmental attorney Jay Eversman and associate professor Rachel Cassidy.

Two contestants, Rishabh and Rachel, both answered correctly with "What is Columbia?" As Rishabh wagered $9,801, he took home $20,201 for his two-day win.Â

However, game show fans were quick to call out Jennings' ruling and argued that the winner’s answer was "totally illegible."

Rishabh’s written answer of "Columbia," appeared to some to be simply a jumble of letters. The original answer he jotted down was also scribbled out.Â

Meanwhile, Rachel’s answer to "Columbia" was easier to read on screen.Â

LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? That poor lady got ROBBED!" a viewer wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

"Man I just do not know if that said ‘Columbia.’ I guess if it’s good enough for Ken though," one comment read on Reddit.Â

Another fan wrote, "My ruling was that his response was illegible. Apparently my rulings have very little influence."

"It spells ‘Cdumlaq,’" a viewer chimed in.

"I think him saying ‘I wrote Columbia’ before the answer was revealed affected Ken’s decision honestly. Because once he said that you could kind of see what he was writing, but had Ken had to make it out on his own? I don’t know if it would have counted," one comment read.

"Yeah, kind of a crazy call… just my opinion!" a viewer agreed.

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER

Passionate "Jeopardy!" fans additionally suggested that the game show should have keyboards instead of having players write out answers.Â

"It’s beyond time for contestants to have a keyboard for FJ."

Meanwhile, "Jeopardy!" answers have previously sparked heated debates with viewers.

Recently, a ruling had viewers riled up over the mispronunciation of an answer.Â

Mark Fitzpatrick, a five-day "Jeopardy!" champion, chose the $800 clue from the category, "Just Doin’ My Job."

The prompt read, "Knows the proper use of propofol; can count to 16 (letters in the job); can tell people to count backward from 100."

While Jennings was looking for the correct answer, "anesthesiologist," contestant Eamonn Campbell appeared to flub the pronunciation of the word.Â

"Anateesiologist?" Campbell answered.Â

Although Jennings gave the contestant another chance, he continued to stumble on the correct pronunciation of the word.Â

"Anathesiologist?" he mispronounced again.

Another "Jeopardy!" contestant, Dot White, buzzed in with the correct pronunciation of the word and answered, ""What is an anesthesiologist?". Jennings then accepted the correct answer.

Fans were quick to react to the questionable ruling of the challenging prompt.Â

"Jeopardy and ken Jennings blows it again… screwing Eamonn out of his answer ‘anesthesiologist’…. unbelievable!!" one comment read.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

You could definitely discern his lack of the 1st ‘s’ in his pronunciation. He said ‘ana-theeze-iologist' as opposed to ‘ana-steeze-iologist.’ Twice! @KenJennings def made the right call."

A "Jeopardy!" fan simply reacted and wrote, "Pronunciation matters."

This was not the first time viewers slammed a controversial ruling on the game show.Â

Earlier this year, a ruling on an episode of "Jeopardy!" had fans up in arms.

LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING?
'Jeopardy!' fans flooded social media wondering how all three contestants got the question wrong

"Jeopardy!" fans were stunned when none of the contestants were able to guess the Final Jeopardy clue.

During Monday night's episode, Mark Fitzpatrick, Amanda Prusila and Daniel Gately all guessed incorrectly when trying to solve the Final Jeopardy clue under the category brand names.

At this point in the competition, Fitzpatrick held a substantial lead with $23,000, with Gately in second place with $4,200 and Prusila in third place with $600.Â

"In 1886 this brand's bookkeeper came up with its name & flowing script logo, saying, "The two Cs would look well in advertising,"' host Ken Jennings read aloud for the clue.

'JEOPARDY!'
'Jeopardy!' fans spot Clint Eastwood look-alike contestant: ‘Alternate timeline’

'Jeopardy!' contestant David Erb was a spitting image of Hollywood actor Clint Eastwood, according to viewers

"Jeopardy!" fans did a double take on the game show Monday night.Â

The contestant David Erb had a striking resemblance to actor Clint Eastwood. Erb is a puzzle designer from Seattle, Washington, and the show’s current champion.

Fans quickly pointed out Eastwood’s doppelgänger on the beloved game show.Â

'JEOPARDY!' The category was "19th Century Americans."

The prompt read: "Among those who attended his 1864 funeral were Ralph Waldo Emerson, Bronson Alcott & Franklin Pierce."

While Erb guessed Henry Adams and wagered $12,345, his answer was incorrect.Â

The correct answer was, "Who is Nathaniel Hawthorne?"

Nonetheless, the "Jeopardy!" contestant still won the episode with $17,655.

"Jeopardy!" fans have recently gone wild for contestants’ appearances.

LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING?
'Jeopardy!' fans go wild over contestant dubbed 'hot priest'

Host Ken Jennings called the contestant 'Father Steve'

Last night's episode of "Jeopardy!" appealed to viewers who were thirsting for more than just knowledge.

A contestant named Father Steve Jakubowski made his first appearance on the show on the Sept. 19 episode, and the Catholic priest quickly earned himself a number of fans.

"There's a hot priest on Jeopardy rn send help," one person wrote on X.

"JEOPARDY!" CONTESTANTS CALLED OUT BY FAMOUS COMEDIAN AFTER FAILING TO IDENTIFY HIM DURING CLUE

"Hot priest on jeopardy tonight, a small win I needed," another comment read.

One viewer joked, "This Jeopardy contestant is a PRIEST? I’m about to convert."

Another lamented, "There is an extremely attractive Catholic priest on Jeopardy, and that's just not fair."

Comments continued pouring in during the episode, and after it finished airing, with several people referring to Jakubowski as "hot priest."

In a statement to Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital, Jakubowski said that being on "Jeopardy!" was "a great experience."

"Ken and all the producers and team were very kind to me with the novelty of having a Catholic priest on the show," he explained. "I hope it gave a positive impression of my community and the Church. The show airs at 3:30 where I live in Austin, and so we had a watch party at our parish school with our students and their parents -- tons of fun to share that with our parish."

Jakubowski competed against a teacher named Jen Feldman and returning champion Chris Lindsay.

Each contestant played well, and Jakubowski went into the Final Jeopardy round in third place with $5,400. The category was "New York Movies," and the clue read, "Frank Sinatra got upset that a photo of him caught fire in a Brooklyn pizzeria in this film."

He guessed "The Godfather Part II" and wagered $5,301. The answer was incorrect, taking his final earnings down to $99.

"But as you know, the last shall be first, so it's all right," host Ken Jennings remarked, referencing a Bible verse.

Lindsay had the correct answer to the clue, "Do the Right Thing," and his wager brought him to $10,801, but Feldman, who also had the correct answer, wagered more money, leaving her with $13,800 and making her the new champion.

In addition to Jakubowski's appearance, viewers noted something else about his appearance: Jennings referred to him as "Father Steve."

LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? A fan questioned on the "Jeopardy!" Reddit page if it was "wrong to frown upon contestants being referred to by their honorifics."

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER

"As a contestant, you are asked how you would like to be named on the show," one person answered. "I would imagine that quite a few people on the show are PhDs or doctors, so it would be confusing if you had all honourifics used, IMO."

Another remarked, "I'm a PhD, but would never want to be referred to Dr. because my job is not my identity. Being a Catholic priest is pretty much one's identity. It's not just some job/educational degree."

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

One viewer suggested the consistent use of the "Father Steve" moniker was because of Jennings specifically, theorizing, "It felt a little like Ken was obsessed. It just seemed like he made a lot of little comments about it for the whole episode."
