Duke suspends Students for Justice in Palestine following complaints over antisemitic Instagram post

The suspension came after the group posted a flyer featuring a caricature originally from a Black Panther newspaper

Duke University recently moved to suspend its chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) after the university received complaints about a flyer from the group that some claimed was antisemitic. The North Carolina university joins a string of other schools that have taken action against SJP chapters.

On March 13, Duke SJP posted a flyer on its Instagram advertising a meeting to discuss "Iran, Zionism and U.S. Imperialism." The flyer drew criticism, as it depicted two pigs shaking hands, one of which was dressed as the Statue of Liberty and had "U.S. Imperialism" written on its arm, while the other was dressed in a uniform, holding a staff with a Star of David and an Israeli flag. The second pig also had the word "Zionism" written on its sleeve.Â

Jessica Costescu, a staff writer at the Washington Free Beacon, noted that the caricature originally appeared in a Black Panther newspaper in the 1970s.

COLLEGE ANTI-ISRAEL GROUP CALLS FOR DEATH TO ALL ZIONIST 'COLLABORATORS' IN GAZA

StopAntisemitism, a watchdog organization, condemned the flyer, saying that "Attempts to reframe or justify such messaging do not change its nature that anti-Zionism and antisemitism are directly intertwined." In a response to its original post, StopAntisemitism lamented that the students responsible for the post "were not reprimanded."

"Duke University deserves credit for taking decisive action and revoking SJP’s campus status following deeply disturbing conduct, including the use of imagery depicting pigs adorned with Jewish Stars of David to promote an event attacking Zionism. That said, the administration stopped just short of full accountability, failing to meaningfully discipline the individuals responsible for this blatant antisemitic imagery," StopAntisemitism told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital on Wednesday.

"Universities cannot claim to take antisemitism seriously while allowing those who engage in such dehumanizing conduct to escape individual consequences," the organization added.

The flyer sparked 10 complaints from students to the university's Office of Institutional Equity (OIE), according to the Duke Chronicle.

"When 'anti-Zionism' becomes a catch-all justification for rhetoric that vilifies Jews as pigs, particularly when many Duke Jewish students have a personal or familial connection to Israel, it stops being a purely political stance and starts to feel personal. SJP contributes to an atmosphere where Jewish identity itself is viewed with suspicion, and today’s decision is a response to a pattern of such behavior," Noah Hamid, class of 2028 at Duke, told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital.

NYC STUDENTS EXPOSE 'EXTREMIST' PROFESSORS FOSTERING CAMPUS ANTISEMITISM AT MAJOR UNIVERSITIES

On March 24, Ben Adams, senior associate dean of students for Duke's QuadEx program, informed SJP that the OIE had received complaints and said that the depiction of the pig holding a Star of David was deemed to be harassment under the university's Policy on Prohibited Discrimination, Harassment and Related Misconduct, the Duke Chronicle reported. The outlet added that Adams asked the group to remove the post, which it did. Subsequently, the university froze the group's funding and later suspended the club.

The suspension came days after Duke SJP announced that it would be teaming up with Student Panthers, a Durham-based group, to launch the "NC Coalition Against The US War Machine." In the announcement of the event, Duke SJP invited people to join them in "Bringing the War Home to fight against Colonialism within the belly of the beast!"

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

While the flyer led to the suspension, it was not the first time Duke SJP was embroiled in controversy. In September 2025, the group held a "die-in" protest against the Israel-Hamas war. The Duke Chronicle reported at the time that students joined in chants of "Duke admin, you can't hide! You're supporting genocide!"

Duke SJP has yet to make a public statement regarding its suspension. Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital reached out to the group via email but did not receive a response in time for publication.

Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital reached out to Duke University and Adams for comment.

Far-left streamer Hasan Piker warns 'American empire' will inevitably fall, likely in violent fashion

Piker quotes notorious Chinese communist dictator Mao Zedong

Far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker declared the American empire is "fading fast" and will "inevitably fall," when addressing Yale University’s Political Union on Tuesday.Â

Empires "rarely die quietly," Piker told Yale students, adding, "They go out over the course of sometimes centuries, but in America's case, probably a lot shorter, with increasing amounts of violence."

Piker came out in support of a resolution "End the American Empire" during the speech at Yale that irked conservatives before it began. Â

"It’s an interesting resolution, end the U.S. empire. It’s interesting because, how do you end something that’s already in the process of dying?" Piker told students, drawing cheers.

HASAN PIKER CALLS REPUBLICAN PARTY THE 'BIGGEST DOMESTIC TERRORIST' IN THE COUNTRY

"We must manage the retreat of a superpower from the world stage. This is a challenge for our time," he said. "Because if we do not do this, then the American empire will come to an end in a much more violent way, a curse on future generations that we must avoid at all costs."

He also suggested the United States "turned against" the Soviet Union following World War II because of "anti-communist fervor." At another point, he quoted Chinese dictator Mao Zedong's past words about "reactionaries" being "paper tigers" who weren't as scary as they appeared.

"It will be proved that the U.S. reactionaries, like all reactionaries in history, do not have much strength," he said.

The far-left influencer said America eventually "became the monsters that we had supposedly vanquished" and had "imperial bloodlust."

Piker asked, "What was the point of defeating the Nazis if we went on to dominate so much of the globe as violently as we have? Was the point of all of it so that we could have the rest of the world to ourselves?"

WHO IS HASAN PIKER? MEET THE FAR-LEFT STREAMER WHO IS STIRRING UP CONTROVERSY ONLINE AND DIVIDING DEMOCRATS

"I don’t know how else to put it, the American empire is fading fast, regardless of what we resolve here today," Piker said. "The American empire is going to inevitably fall."

Piker, who is fiercely anti-Israel and has said he prefers Hamas, also said Israel was going through a "fascist death spiral" that was "not dissimilar to what the Nazis went through."

Many Yale students stomped their feet with approval throughout the speech. The Yale Daily News interviewed students who called Piker’s remarks "electric" and praised the university for allowing "a modern media presence" to speak.

"He reaches to our demographic exactly, people that are our age," student Cemre Keles told the Yale Daily News of Piker, who has millions of followers online.

Piker has become an influential figure within the Democratic Party, with some politicians embracing and even campaigning with him ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Others, however, have called out Piker for what they described as antisemitic and anti-American comments.

POPULAR FAR-LEFT STREAMER UNLEASHES PROFANE TIRADE AGAINST VIETNAMESE COMMUNIST REFUGEE IN RESURFACED VID

StopAntisemitism founder Liora Rez called Yale’s decision to host Piker "indefensible"

"This is not a free speech issue, it’s a moral failure. Piker has a record of inflammatory rhetoric," she told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital.

"Elevating a dangerous figure associated with such rhetoric is not academic inquiry, it is the normalization of extremism," Rez continued. "This is part of a broader, deeply troubling trend within the Ivy League, where elite institutions are increasingly willing to platform voices that traffic in outrage and hostility while ignoring the real-world consequences."

Rez added, "Jewish students, already facing a surge in antisemitism on campus, are left to absorb the message that this environment is acceptable," and universities are "not obligated to give a platform to every voice."

Yale did not immediately respond to a request for comment.Â

HASAN PIKER ACCUSES BILL MAHER OF BEING AN 'ISLAMOPHOBE' AND DEMONSTRATING 'ANTI-BLACKNESS'

Prior to the Yale event, Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., called for federal funding to be revoked from Yale for hosting the controversial streamer, who had suggested Scott should be killed for his stance on healthcare.

"This is WILD," Scott said on X. "I spoke at the Yale Political Union last year on why we need to buy made in America products. Now, they are hosting a guy who said I should be killed."

Among Piker’s past comments are claims that America "deserved" 9/11 and his defense of Hamas as being "a thousand times better than the fascist settler colonial apartheid state" of Israel. Earlier this week, Piker claimed that the Republican Party was the world's "biggest terrorist" organization.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital’s Lindsay Kornick and Alex Miller contributed to this report.Â

Inside teachers' union May Day 'dress rehearsal' critics warn will 'groom' students into Dem 'foot soldiers'

North American Values Institute says unions view students as 'foot soldiers' in political and ideological battles

A recent webinar hosted by some of the top teachers' unions in the United States that pushed a curriculum focused on the upcoming May Day protests is prompting education experts and watchdogs to sound the alarm about alleged political indoctrination inside classrooms.

The Chicago Teachers' Union and the National Education Association collaborated with the Zinn Education Project on an April 2 seminar referred to as a "curriculum build" to bring "social justice into the classroom" ahead of May Day, the traditional May 1st holiday that has long been embraced by communist and socialist movements as a day of mass political action.

"There’s probably gonna be a lot worse things that Trump does, and so May Day is a dress rehearsal for maybe there’s a random day in, you know, June that we all are, like, no work, no school, no shopping, because of something Pete just did, right?" The teachers unions will continue to use students as Marxist pawns until we have driven them out of our schools."Â

The NEA has found itself facing criticism over political activism in recent months as well, which Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital has extensively reported on, including federal labor filings in January that showed the nation's largest teacher's union funneling millions to far-left activist groups, ballot initiatives and social justice organizations.

"They don't care about the students, they care about pushing these leftist, liberal Democrat people [politicians] so that they can get more money and just fund all these stupid initiatives," an NEA whistleblower told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital in January.

Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital reached out to the NEA, Chicago Public Schools, and Zinn Project for comment.

The Chicago Teacher's Union directed Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital to its statement calling for "No School, No Work, No Shopping" on May 1st.

"Teaching our students what civic action looks like requires more than textbooks when the President sends federal agents to occupy our cities and the Governor chooses to continue giving tax breaks to billionaires instead of giving our students the school day they deserve," CTU Vice President Jackson Potter said.Â

"If we still want to have democracy in the midterms this November, public schools that provide our students with quality education, and unions to defend workers’ rights, then it is up to every Chicagoan to stand up for what we believe in and show the authoritarian billionaire in Washington that when he breaks every rule, we will not go along with business as usual."

Inside Antifa-linked group's plan to 'structurally change' the US as May Day unrest approaches

Obtained slides outline goals including Green New Deal legislation and dismantling the 'billionaire 2 party system'

FIRST ON FOX: A far-left activist group with ties to anti-ICE protests, Antifa and broader left-wing organizing is openly calling for a "political revolution" and a sweeping overhaul of the American system that includes pressure on college campuses, according to newly obtained training materials.

Slides from a March 2026 Sunrise Movement membership meeting, obtained by Defending Education, lay out a vision to "structurally change the foundations of this country" in pursuit of "eco-socialism" and a "multi-racial democracy."

The internal presentation outlines what the group describes as its "grand objective," including the passage of Green New Deal legislation and dismantling what it calls the "billionaire 2 party system."

In a slide called "On the road to revolution," the group outlines the top three goals of "Phase 1," which include: "‘Stop Trump’s grip on power," "build up to mass noncooperation" with protests like May Day and "use the 2026 midterms to build toward electoral breakthrough — win big."

SCATHING REPORT REVEALS ANTIFA-LINKED ORG PASSING OUT MATERIAL TO K-12 STUDENTS: 'POLITICAL REVOLUTION'

The plan for Phase 2, which takes place in 2028, includes "MASS strikes," "Huge historic 2028 turnout for our candidate," "biggest tentpole of masses against Trump + his billionaires."

The Phase 3 "political revolution" is planned for 2029 to 2031, and Phase 4 in 2032 and beyond is titled "The New System," which the presentation says will include: "Happiness (maybe)."

The materials highlight specific actions to target corporations, including hotel chains. One slide outlines tactics such as "booking and cancelling reservations at Hilton Hotels" as part of a broader pressure campaign, while another calls on college students to push schools to cut ties with companies labeled as "ICE enablers like Hilton" in an effort to "topple the corporate pillar."

The strategy ties campus activism directly to national objectives, encouraging students to use institutional relationships, such as university vendor contracts, to drive corporate boycotts and broader disruption.

DOZENS ARRESTED AFTER PROTESTERS TAKE OVER NYC HOTEL LOBBY DURING ANTI-ICE DEMONSTRATION

In addition, the presentation lays out three potential political scenarios the group says could unfold in the coming years. One, labeled a "full dictatorship," envisions Trump allegedly "steal[ing]" future elections, using the military to suppress opposition and ending free speech.

A second scenario, described as a "seesaw democracy," predicts Democrats could win elections but be unable to govern effectively due to institutional constraints, leading to shifting public opinion and the eventual return of "authoritarians."

The third and preferred outcome outlined in the slides calls for "mass noncooperation and huge electoral turnout" to remove Trump and his allies from power, followed by broad public support to dismantle the current political system and enact sweeping economic and social reforms.

"While calls for a ‘political revolution’ by left-wing activist groups are not unique, these coordinated plans to put economic and social pressure on universities to achieve a socialist ‘democracy’ should raise serious concerns," Rhyen Staley, director of research at Defending Education, told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital. "Our academic institutions should be places of higher learning, discovery, and robust debate around ideas and policies, not weaponized or punished to achieve a ‘structural change’ to the political foundations of this country."

Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital reached out to the Sunrise Movement for comment.Â

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Sunrise Movement's far-left ties were enough to spark concern from the House Judiciary Committee chairman in November, Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital first reported, particularly its links to Antifa, a movement the Trump administration has labeled a terrorist organization.

Far-left activist groups like the Sunrise Movement have been calling for a nationwide strike on May 1, the traditional May Day holiday that has long been embraced by communist and socialist movements as a day of mass political action.

At a No Kings Rally in St. Paul, Minnesota, in late March, Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital reported that Ezra Levin, the co-founder of Indivisible, the protest's key organizer, joined the communist call for a national strike and urged protesters to prepare for economic disruption on May Day, similar to a shutdown that saw limited success in Minneapolis during protests on Jan. 23 against Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

"I want everyone here to put this on their calendar… It is a tactical goal, an escalation… It is an economic show of force, inspired by Minnesota’s own day of truth and action," Levin told the crowd.

Levin continued, "On May 1, on May Day, we are saying, ‘No business as usual.’ No work, no school, no shopping. We’re going to show up and say, 'We’re putting workers over billionaires and kings.’"

Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital’s Asra Q.
Department of Education investigates Massachusetts school district over transgender bathroom policy

The probe follows Trump's executive order threatening to strip federal funds from institutions promoting gender ideology

FIRST ON FOX: The Department of Education has launched an investigation into a Massachusetts public school district for allegedly allowing students at K-12 schools to use bathrooms and locker rooms based on their self-defined gender identity, rather than biological sex, while forcing students to integrate and preventing parents from changing the policy.

Westford Public Schools’ (WPS) policy surrounding "Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Students" allows students to use restrooms and locker rooms of the opposite sex while forcing other students who object to leave, according to America First Legal (AFL), which originally filed the complaint that prompted the investigation.Â

"America First Legal is committed to ensuring that children are protected from leftist Indoctrination," AFL President Gene Hamilton told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital in a statement. "We will not allow our girls to be silenced or harmed by WPS’s ‘gender identity’ policy. The Department of Education’s investigation rightfully sends a clear message to schools across the country: Title IX will not be sacrificed on the altar of gender ideology."

VIRGINIA SCHOOL DISTRICT VOTES TO KEEP GENDER BATHROOM POLICY, DEFYING DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION DIRECTIVE

The same policy allegedly allows girls to enter boys' facilities as well, forcing students who disagree with the policy or may be of the opposite sex to leave the bathroom or locker room.Â

The Department of Education told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital that an investigation into WPS has been opened.Â

The policy, which appears to have been removed from the WPS website, also included policies surrounding gender identities, pronoun usage, and defines terms like "gender nonconforming."

TRUMP ADMIN DETERMINES SJSU VIOLATED TITLE IX WITH HANDLING OF TRANS VOLLEYBALL PLAYER BLAIRE FLEMING

When the policy was being debated prior to its implementation in March 2025, WestfordCAT reported that one school board committee member said that staff could also be affected by not allowing the use of opposite-sex facilities based on gender identity.Â

"I know that we have students, possibly staff, that this impacts," WPS committee member Tom Laflamme said. "They are real people who are harmed by taking no action. The policy may not be perfect because we are humans, but it makes a statement that they matter to us."

The policy was implemented after President Donald Trump signed an executive order titled: "Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism And Restoring Biological Truth To The Federal Government" on his first day in office, Jan. 20, 2025.

TRUMP ADMIN CRACKS DOWN ON OREGON AND VIRGINIA FOR DEFYING TITLE IX AND WOMEN'S SPORTS EXECUTIVE ORDER

The executive order threatens the stripping of federal funds from institutions which do not recognize a two-gender standard and instead rely on self-defined gender identity.

"Across the country, ideologues who deny the biological reality of sex have increasingly used legal and other socially coercive means to permit men to self-identify as women and gain access to intimate single-sex spaces and activities designed for women, from women’s domestic abuse shelters to women’s workplace showers," the executive order reads. "This is wrong."

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

"Federal funds shall not be used to promote gender ideology.
San Diego high school reverses student suspension over pro-ICE flyers it deemed 'harassment'

Torrey Pines high school student was disciplined for posting flyers that read, 'We [Heart] ICE - Real Americans' after anti-ICE student walkout

A San Diego school reportedly agreed to clear the record of a high school student who was suspended after posting flyers in support of Immigration and Customs Enforcement ("ICE"), following intervention from a legal group.

The student, a junior at Torrey Pines High School, was disciplined in February by school administrators after posting pro-ICE flyers reading, "We [heart] ICE — Real Americans," according to a Wednesday announcement by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression ("FIRE").

The student told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital he posted the flyers because he wanted to express support for ICE and offer a counterpoint to anti-ICE sentiment on campus.

"I believe in ICE's mission and I think we should enforce our immigration laws," he told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital. "I also wanted to provide an opposing view to the anti-ICE opinions that the majority of students, teachers, and administrators at Torrey Pines seem to have and often share. I wanted to show students that the issue isn’t one-sided and that their opinions are common and matter, too."

IT'S NOT STUDENTS ORGANIZING ICE WALKOUTS — HERE'S WHO'S REALLY BEHIND THE NATIONWIDE PROTESTS

The student said he was called into the assistant principal's office two days after he had posted the flyers and was told the flyers were "unacceptable," "fighting words," "incendiary" and "dehumanizing."

School officials reportedly told the student he was punished for breaking school rules prohibiting "harassment" and "intimidation," according to FIRE. The group said the flyers were posted in school common areas where other political flyers had also been placed.

Attorneys for FIRE noted that just two weeks prior to this incident, hundreds of Torrey Pines students walked out of class to protest ICE and the Trump administration.

The student said it was frustrating to be punished for his sign after anti-ICE students used harsher language during the earlier walkout and were not, to his knowledge, similarly punished.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT SUSPENDED AFTER MAGA HAT SPARKS DISPUTE

"It made me feel like the school wants to punish me and silence me just because administrators think my views are wrong," he told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital. "I'm glad the other students were allowed to share their anti-ICE views, but I have every [bit as] much right as they do to share my own. It felt especially unfair because some of their signs used swear words and other epithets while mine was very tame."

Photos from the February 6 student walkout shared on social media show students holding signs that read, "If You’re an I.C.E. Agent Ya Mom’s a Hoe!!," and "ICE is KKK spelled differently."

He also disagreed with the school’s characterization of his flyers as "harassment" or "intimidation."

"It didn't make any sense to me, because how can a poster that says ‘I [Heart] ICE - Real Americans’ harass or intimidate anyone?" he asked. "I never bothered anyone or did anything disruptive. All I did was quietly post some flyers."

CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE

The San Dieguito Union High School District told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital it cannot speak publicly about student discipline issues due to privacy laws, but said the student was not suspended over his political beliefs.

"The San Dieguito Union High School District has not and does not discipline students because of their political viewpoints," school officials said in a statement. "The District supports students’ rights to express their viewpoints while also maintaining school campuses that are safe, orderly, and respectful learning environments for everyone."

"Nevertheless, we note that schools do have rules that govern student conduct and campus safety, including policies that prohibit discrimination and harassment. The District applies these rules fairly and impartially to help provide and ensure a safe learning environment for all students."

FIRE announced on Wednesday that school officials agreed to remove the suspension from the student's record after being contacted by FIRE attorneys.

"School administrators can’t pick and choose which opinions students are allowed to express," said FIRE Supervising Senior Attorney Conor Fitzpatrick. "Voicing an opinion which makes others upset is not ‘harassment’ or ‘intimidation,’ it is American democracy in action."

"We’re pleased the school has erased the suspension and will be watching closely to ensure the school respects its students’ First Amendment rights," he added. "The law is clear: Public schools must allow students to peacefully express their political opinions."

The student's suspension stirred an outcry after being shared to social media by San Diego County Board of Supervisors candidate Amy Reichert.

Now that the suspension has been removed from his record, the student said he hopes other students will not be afraid to speak out, even when their views are unpopular.

"As long as you're respectful and not disruptive, you shouldn't be afraid to speak just because people at your school might disagree with you," he told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital. "The only way we can figure out the right answer to difficult questions is if every side of the argument is allowed to be heard. It might be difficult, but it's worth it, and hopefully your school knows enough about the First Amendment that you won't have to go through what I did. Keep fighting for your beliefs and put America first."

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Conservative group urges crackdown on hidden campus crime with gov't filing to expose the true scope

America First Legal filed a petition with the Department of Education on Thursday

FIRST ON FOX: A conservative legal group is calling on the federal government to overhaul how crime data is reported on college campuses, arguing that parents and students are being left in the dark about safety risks.

America First Legal (AFL) filed a supplemental petition on Thursday with the U.S. Department of Education, urging officials to create a centralized, publicly accessible database of campus crime logs nationwide.

The reason, AFL argues, is gaps in the Clery Act where schools are already required to maintain daily crime logs documenting reported incidents, but that information is scattered, inconsistent and often hard to access.

"AFL’s petition today brings a new level of accountability to college campuses," Emily Percival, senior counsel at America First Legal, said in a press release.Â

SIGN UP TO GET THE CAMPUS RADICALS NEWSLETTER

"Parents, students, and policymakers deserve the truth in real-time about the safety of college and university campuses. Today’s action is another step toward shining the light on the dangers that have festered at our academic institutions."

The petition also calls for a new "Political and Religious Violence Transparency Report," which would document incidents involving threats, assaults and harassment tied to political or religious beliefs, as well as the university’s response.

AFL is also pushing for penalties for schools that fail to comply, including fines of up to $71,545 per violation.Â

The proposal comes as colleges nationwide have faced a surge in high-profile incidents involving protests turning violent, clashes between rival groups and reports of intimidation targeting students over political and religious views.

LA UNITED SCHOOL DISTRICT SCANDAL LEADS TO CHARGES AS $22M SCHEME ALLEGEDLY DRAINED FUNDS MEANT FOR STUDENTS

From disruptive demonstrations that have led to arrests and property damage, to allegations of targeted harassment, campus shootings and assaults tied to ideological disputes, campus tensions have increasingly spilled into violence, prompting lawmakers and watchdog groups to question whether universities are fully disclosing the scope of the problem.

AFL argues current reporting rules under the Clery Act allow schools to obscure the true scope of campus disorder, particularly when it comes to protest-related violence.

The AFL has previously cited some examples of egregious behavior on college campuses, including the protest that broke out at the University of California at Berkeley during a Turning Point USA event, which led to multiple arrests as demonstrators attempted to breach police barricades.Â

The unrest that unfolded at UC Berkeley prompted the U.S. Department of Justice to launch an investigation.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Major schools like the University of Michigan and Columbia University dealt with hostile environments during protests that addressed the war in Gaza. Because of protests causing safety and discrimination concerns for Jewish students, the Trump administration put a freeze on federal funding at some of these schools.

Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital's Joshua Q. Nelson contributed to this report.

GOP rep demands answers after UNC Charlotte hosts abortion-support training for teens as young as 14

'This was not a university-sponsored event, and no university funds were used,' school tells Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital

FIRST ON FOX—Rep. Mark Harris, R-N.C., is calling for answers from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte following reports that a group hosted abortion support doula trainings for teenagers as young as 14 years old at the university.

"Recent reports indicate that UNC-Charlotte provided space for a training organized by Youth Abortion Support Collective — affiliated with Advocates for Youth — which targeted participants ages 14-24 and introduced them to ‘tools, resources, and skills for abortion support work,’" Harris said in a letter obtained exclusively by Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital to Sharon Gaber, chancellor of UNC-Charlotte.Â

"Allowing the abortion industry to recruit and train impressionable minors as young as 14 years old on a public university campus is deeply inappropriate and raises serious concerns about the responsible use of public resources and the university’s priorities," the letter reads.Â

CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY IN CHICAGO COVERS 'ABORTION CARE SERVICES' THROUGH STUDENT HEALTH PLAN

An event invite from the Youth Abortion Support Collective (YouthASC), a nationwide group of young people working for abortion access run by Advocates for Youth, advertised the Nov. 15-16 training at UNC Charlotte last year, saying it was open to teens as young as 14.

"This training is for young people ages 14–24 and will provide an introduction to the tools, resources, and skills for abortion support work. We welcome anyone who is interested in becoming an abortion doula, companion, and/or support person," the invite read.

The invite for the November training described what an "abortion doula" is, citing Dopo, an international reproductive justice organization, which defines it as "Anyone that can physically, emotionally, and/or spiritually hold space for someone before, during, and/or after abortion."Â

PRO-ABORTION NOTRE DAME PROFESSOR WITHDRAWS FROM INSTITUTE ROLE AFTER FIERCE CRITICISM FROM BISHOP, CARDINALS

"North Carolinians who fund this institution and have deeply held views on the sanctity of life deserve transparency and accountability," Harris wrote.

In his letter to Gaber, Harris demanded the university disclose whether taxpayer funds, facilities or administrative resources were used to promote the training, who approved the university space for the training, whether university employees played a role in organizing, facilitating or approving the event, and whether the university "intends" to have similar events in the future.

"Public universities have a duty to steward tax dollars responsibly and maintain an environment appropriate for all students, including minors," Harris wrote. "Partnering with an organization advancing a radical progressive agenda to minors undermines this trust and sends a concerning message to young people."

Harris added, "I strongly urge you to reconsider future partnerships with similar organizations to ensure future decisions better reflect the values and expectations of North Carolina taxpayers. North Carolinians deserve a public university that prioritizes education, fiscal responsibility, and the protection of young students over ideological advocacy."Â

A spokesperson for UNC-Charlotte and Gaber told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital in a statement that, "We have shared accurate information with Representative Harris and his office and clarified the nature of this event. This was not a university-sponsored event, and no university funds were used. As noted previously, the activity was organized by a registered student organization."Â

UNIVERSITY OF OREGON TO OFFER ABORTION PILLS ON CAMPUS THIS FALL AFTER STUDENT PRESSURE CAMPAIGN

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital reached out to Advocates for Youth for comment.

Sheridan Gorman's university newspaper touts ICE tracker after freshman allegedly murdered by illegal alien

The Loyola Phoenix also apologized for using the term 'illegal immigrant' in its coverage of Sheridan Gorman's death

More than a week after the Department of Homeland Security said that Loyola University Chicago freshman Sheridan Gorman was murdered at the hands of an illegal immigrant, the school's newspaper still features an Immigration and Customs Enforcement tracker, meant for tipsters to alert the paper about ICE operations in the area.

The editorial staff of the Loyola Phoenix announced last October that it had created a map to track ICE activities, soliciting tips about those activities from readers and the public at large. The tracker is highly-touted on the newspaper's Instagram page, and is pinned to the top of the organization's profile.

"While social media spreads knowledge quickly, it also has the potential to spread misinformation. "Anyone will be able to submit information to us, and we will verify it before posting it to our social media and website."

COLLEGE STUDENT'S ALLEGED MURDER BY ILLEGAL WENT EXACTLY AS DEMS ‘INTENDED,’ HOUSE SPEAKER SAYS

Gorman, 18, was shot and killed in the early morning hours of March 19 while she spent time with friends on the pier in the city's Roger's Park neighborhood. DHS officials say Jose Medina-Medina, 25, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, allegedly fired one shot at the Loyola University Chicago student, killing her.

Medina-Medina was apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol on May 9, 2023, and was released into the U.S. under the Biden administration, according to DHS.

Earlier this week, The Loyola Phoenix found itself in hot water after activists badgered the paper about using the term "illegal immigrant" in a story and the word "immigrant" in the headline.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT ACCUSED OF KILLING LOYOLA STUDENT RELEASED UNDER BIDEN, DHS SAYS

The paper's editorial staff swiftly apologized and updated the language, dropping the relevant information about Medina-Medina's immigration status.

A long editor's note in the body of the article, originally titled "Immigrant Man Charged in Murder of Sheridan Gorman, DHS Involved," explained that those terms were improper.

"That headline didn’t reflect the most important elements in the story, and it was taken down minutes later to prevent any further harm to affected community members," the editor's note said.

PRITZKER BREAKS SILENCE ON MIGRANT CHARGED IN STUDENT’S MURDER, BLAMES TRUMP FOR ‘POLITICIZING’ CASE

"Additionally, in the body of the original post, we described the man who was charged as an 'illegal immigrant,' using language provided by the Department of Homeland Security," it said. "That language does not align with Associated Press style, nor does it align with the values of this newspaper."

"No human’s existence is illegal, and we quickly changed our wording to reflect that."

The note conceded that the story's language caused harm.

CHICAGO ALDERWOMAN APOLOGIZES FOR 'WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME' COMMENT ON SLAIN STUDENT

"We acknowledge the harm such language can cause and the power and importance of the words we choose to use," the note said. "We deeply regret these errors, and we’re committed to continuing the high standards we hold for ourselves as journalists and members of the Loyola, Rogers Park and Chicago communities."

The alleged murder has caused a political uproar, as the Gorman family and local and federal officials have blasted Chicago and the state of Illinois for their pronounced refusal to cooperate with federal immigration officials.

Gorman's family wrote a letter to Gov. J.B. Pritzker, D-Ill. and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson demanding accountability.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

"What happened to Sheridan cannot be reduced to a ‘senseless tragedy,’ nor can it be explained in general terms about public safety. Sheridan was our daughter.
Los Angeles schools accused of quietly funding race-based programming for Black students only

Defending Education claims LAUSD's Black Student Achievement Plan continues to exclude non-Black students despite assurances to federal officials that it had changed.

An education watchdog is asking the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights to investigate the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) over allegations that the district has allocated tens of millions of dollars for services that only Black students can use.

Defending Education says LAUSD launched the "Black Student Achievement Plan" (BSAP) in 2021 to "address the long-standing disparities in educational outcomes between Black students and their non-Black peers." The district also mentioned that the program is meant to help achieve "racial equity" and "[r]esources are allocated to different schools" according to "a race-based tiered system."

The group says LAUSD has allocated $50 million for the program in the 2025-2026 school year, on top of $125 million previously spent on BSAP.

An example of the BSAP resource allocation in question is staffing support specifically dedicated to addressing the academic and social-emotional needs of Black students.

MINNESOTA SCHOOL DISTRICTS USE TAXPAYER MONEY FOR RACE-BASED TEACHER INCENTIVES AND LAYOFF PROTECTIONS

On July 11, 2023, Defending Education filed a complaint with the Office of Civil Rights over the policy, saying it violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution.

But that complaint was dismissed exactly a year later, after LAUSD represented that it had "substantially changed its criteria for resource allocation to a race-neutral standard and that BSAP’s resources would be available to all students regardless of race," and the Office of Civil Rights agreed that any potential violation had been rectified.

However, Defending Education alleges that only months after the complaint was dismissed, LAUSD Board of Education members said the program had not changed.

JUSTICE DEPARTMENT SUES PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT OVER ALLEGEDLY DISCRIMINATORY POLICIES

In a board meeting on Oct. 22, 2024, activists who opposed LAUSD's changes to BSAP caused a ruckus, chanting slogans in opposition to the board's announcement.

During those chants, according to Defending Education, now former board President Jackie Goldberg and LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho were caught on a hot mic agreeing that "nothing has changed."

ILLINOIS DISTRICT WHERE FACULTY CELEBRATED CHARLIE KIRK'S DEATH EXPOSED OVER RACIAL 'SEGREGATION' PLAN

"Do they not know that nothing has changed?" Goldberg asked Carvalho in reference to the protesters.

"Nothing has changed," Carvalho agreed.

"How do they not know that?" Goldberg replied.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO PULL BACK RACE-BASED CRITERIA IN FEDERAL GRANTS

Armed with this exchange, Defending Education has filed a new complaint.

"It's concerning when a board of education member and the superintendent both promise in a public meeting that nothing has changed in the context of a race-based program that the district knows is in violation of federal law. It's an admission that they have knowingly lied to the federal government about what is actually going on in the district as it relates to race-based programming," said Erika Sanzi, senior communications director for Defending Education.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

"It is also worth noting that LAUSD’s school board added $50 million more to the BSAP program in its 2025-26 budget, bringing the total for the program to $175 million," she said. "Not sure what it's going to take for public school districts to accept the fact that it is against the law to include and exclude students in programs on the basis of race—hopefully reopening the civil rights investigation can help with that."

But, the district insists that the situation has been rectified.Â

"The concerns involving the District’s Black Student Achievement Plan were resolved with the U.S. Dept. of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR)," a spokesperson for the district said. "The Plan has been updated to ensure and make clear that services are open to all students, in compliance with state and federal law. Los Angeles Unified offers a wide range of programs and resources designed to support and inspire all students and families — regardless of race, ethnicity, or other protected groups in alignment with the District’s Non-Discrimination Policy."

Harvard student says Jewish classmates feel 'unwelcome' as multibillion dollar DOJ lawsuit looms

Sophomore Tejas Billa says Harvard has failed to act on its own antisemitism task force findings

A Harvard student said Jewish students on campus feel "unwelcome" in certain classrooms amid a new multibillion-dollar lawsuit from the Trump administration over the school's mishandling of antisemitism.Â

Last week, Trump’s Department of Justice filed a 44-page lawsuit against the Ivy League institution for "[failing] to protect its Jewish students," and Harvard sophomore Tejas Billa told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital that the university failed to implement all the steps to combat antisemitism the school said they would.Â

"Jewish students and Israeli students feeling very unwelcome in certain courses to do with the Israel-Palestine conflict," Billa told Fox. "More broadly, I don't think all of the steps that the task force outlined to address it have actually been implemented. It's great to come out with a task force report, but it really necessitates action on the part of Harvard."

"I really hope that Harvard and the administration can reach some sort of negotiated settlement that keeps the research funding that is so important to Harvard while also addressing the really, really widespread and critical instances of bias and anti-Semitism that we found in the report and haven't fully addressed," Billa added.

COLUMBIA REVIEW FINDS JEWISH STUDENTS WERE CALLED 'MURDERERS,' BLASTED WITH ANTI-ISRAEL TIRADES

The Trump administration announced the lawsuit last week, with Attorney General Pam Bondi criticizing the rise in antisemitism and the universities that "allowed" sentiments to exist at schools across the country.Â

"Since October 7th, 2023, too many of our educational institutions have allowed anti-Semitism to flourish on campus – Harvard included," Bondi said in a statement. "[This lawsuit] underscores the Trump Administration’s commitment to demanding better from our nation’s schools and putting an end to discriminatory behavior that harms students."

Robert Kennedy Jr. also weighed in on the suit, noting the significant amount of federal funding that is pouring into various educational institutions.Â

"Every student deserves to learn without fear of harassment or exclusion," the Health and Human Services secretary said. "When institutions take taxpayer dollars, they accept a duty to protect civil rights. We hold Harvard accountable on the principle that antisemitism has no place in any program funded by the American people."

GOT A SCOOP ON CAMPUS? SEND US A TIP HERE

Last April, the Ivy League school revealed the findings of an internal task force investigation into antisemitism at Harvard. Their findings showed that nearly 40% of Jewish students do not feel "at home" at the university.

The task force’s report also found roughly 26% of Jewish students felt "physically unsafe."

SIGN UP TO GET CAMPUS RADICALS NEWSLETTER

Harvard University President Alan Garber apologized following the report’s release, while acknowledging the antisemitism that existed on campus.

"I am sorry for the moments when we failed to meet the high expectations we rightfully set for our community," Garber said in a letter. "The grave, extensive impact of the October 7, 2023, Hamas assault on Israel and its aftermath had serious repercussions on our campus."

CLICK HERE FOR MORE CAMPUS RADICALS COAST TO COAST

During Billa’s interview with Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital, he said one potential solution could involve determining just how "left-leaning" the faculty at the top university really is.

"I think there should be a broader diversity of viewpoints that we see among the professors," Billa explained. "We'll do a faculty survey, and it will show that the professors themselves are overwhelmingly left-leaning, and that can't possibly get every valid viewpoint to an issue."

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Billa also noted that students are fearful of speaking on hot topics because they are worried about conflicting opinions with professors impacting their grades.Â

"On the other hand, a lot of students are feeling hesitant or afraid to speak up in class on controversial issues," Billa continued. "Most of the graduating seniors actually reported that they would not speak up in class out of fear of being canceled or fear of perhaps grading impacts."

A spokesperson for Harvard told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital that they have implemented policies to combat antisemitism and said the university "cares deeply about members of our Jewish and Israeli community."

"Harvard has taken substantive, proactive steps to address the root causes of antisemitism and actively enforces anti-harassment and anti-discrimination rules and policies on campus," the spokesperson explained. "We also have enhanced training and education on antisemitism for students, faculty, and staff and launched programs to promote civil dialogue and respectful disagreement inside and outside the classroom. Harvard’s efforts demonstrate the very opposite of deliberate indifference."

University of Oregon to offer abortion pills on campus this fall after student pressure campaign

UO Students for Choice President Karlie Windle says the move helps students facing 'so many barriers' to accessing abortion services

The University of Oregon recently announced the school will begin offering abortion pills to its students beginning in the fall.Â

The Lund Report, an independent outlet that covers health news for Oregon and southwest Washington, reported the school will start offering mifepristone and misoprostol to students at the university health center only.

Mifepristone blocks progesterone, a hormone needed to sustain pregnancy, and is typically followed by misoprostol to complete the abortion.

PRO-LIFE ORGANIZATION CALLS ON HHS AND FDA TO SUSPEND ABORTION PILL APPROVAL, TIGHTEN SAFETY RULES

A study from the Ethics and Public Policy Center last April, authored by Ryan T. Anderson, the organization’s president, and Jamie Bryan Hall, its director of data analysis, reviewed a claims database that included 865,727 prescribed mifepristone abortions from 2017 to 2023.

It found that 10.93% of women "experience sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging, or another serious adverse event within 45 days following a mifepristone abortion."Â

The Lund Report said the decision to provide abortion pills came after a campaign from UO Students for Choice, Associated Students of UO and Young Democratic Socialists of America at the University of Oregon.Â

In February, The Daily Emerald reported that UO YDSA "has been campaigning for campus abortion access for the past three years but has made it a major focus since this fall."

CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY IN CHICAGO COVERS 'ABORTION CARE SERVICES' THROUGH STUDENT HEALTH PLAN

The group reportedly voted to make access to abortion pills at the school its top campaign priority, "and this fall, Students for Choice pitched a collaboration and launched a student-centered coalition that included ASUO, YDSA, S4C and other groups."Â

The Lund Report quoted Karlie Windle, president of UO Students for Choice, who said, "During a time when abortion access is being rolled back and literally people are dying as a result of it, this is a huge thing that it's being expanded in our little corner of the world."

She also said the school providing abortion pills on campus would help students who do not have cars.

PRO-LIFE GROUP FINDS BIDEN-ERA FDA POLICY IS DRIVING 500 ABORTIONS PER DAY, SAYS TRUMP HAS POWER TO END IT

"The dynamic of calling an Uber or taking public transportation to Planned Parenthood is just adding so many barriers to a situation which is already very difficult and emotionally heavy," Windle said.

Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital reached out for comment to the University of Oregon, UO Students for Choice, Associated Students of UO and Young Democratic Socialists of America at the University of Oregon.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Michigan father sues school district after ‘no trespass’ order over pride flag video

Gary Shane Pruitt alleges the Grosse Pointe Public School System violated his rights after issuing a no-trespass order over the video

A Michigan father has sued the Grosse Pointe Public School System, alleging that the district violated his constitutional rights by banning him from school property after he shared a video showing rainbow and transgender flags at one of the middle schools.Â

According to the lawsuit, filed Monday, Gary Shane Pruitt attended a "back to school night" at Parcells Middle School in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, around Sept. 3, 2024, for his minor child, and saw "many rainbow/transgender pride flags on display at the school."

Following the back-to-school event, Pruitt shared his concerns with school leadership and, according to the lawsuit, was told by Roy Bishop, Jr., who is listed as deputy superintendent of educational services on the Grosse Pointe Public School System's website, that "nothing was likely to change and was further instructed he could contact the school board."

SCHOOL DISTRICT IN THE HOT SEAT AMID FRESH ALLEGATIONS OF HIDING STUDENTS' GENDER TRANSITION

At one point, school board member Valerie St. John told Pruitt, in part, "… if you are concerned that your child is seeing the colors of the rainbow, I would suggest sending them with tinted sunglasses so they aren’t subjected to the full spectrum," according to the lawsuit.

According to the lawsuit, Pruitt posted a video of the pride flags at the school on a parent Facebook page on Oct. 14, 2024.Â

Pruitt said he received permission from school employees to enter the building after hours on Sept. 20, 2024, where he videotaped flags displayed in classrooms and hallways.

The lawsuit alleges that children were not present because he was at the school after hours, that he did not mention any names in the video, and that he obscured the faces of any other personnel who were present.

The principal of Parcells Middle School, Jason Wesley, then sent an email about Pruitt's video to all parents with children at Parcells Middle School stating that "the video did not contain any threatening content," and said that the video was "political in nature" but added that the school "will have an increased police presence at the start of the school day at Parcells."Â Â

DOJ SUES VIRGINIA SCHOOL BOARD OVER CHRISTIAN STUDENTS' RIGHTS

Despite Pruitt’s response to Wesley’s email reaffirming that he did not threaten anyone and was exercising his right to free speech, Pruitt was served by the Grosse Pointe Police Department with a "no trespass" letter dated Oct. 21, 2024.

The lawsuit maintains that Pruitt "did nothing on the school grounds or campus that violated the cited policy, he did not use school property in any way, he did not cause any disruption while at the school, he did not harass, argue with, or intimidate anyone at the school, nor were there any school functions recorded."Â

Pruitt’s photo was posted in the office of the middle school stating that he was a trespasser, and that the lawsuit says that his child "was stigmatized, ridiculed, and harassed by other children and individuals at the school."

UNCOVERED DOCS SHOW TOP TEACHERS' UNION GUIDING GENDER TRANSITIONS, BASHING CONSERVATIVES: 'INSANE ASYLUM'

The lawsuit is asking, among other things, that Pruitt’s record be fully expunged from the "no trespass" order, that his photo and any defamatory statements be removed from school property, and that the school’s actions be declared unconstitutional and in violation of Pruitt’s "fundamental constitutional rights."

Andrea Tuttle, superintendent of the Grosse Pointe Public School System, told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital in a statement that, "The District prioritizes the safety and welfare of its students and staff and enforces Board Policies governing access to school buildings. The District is likewise committed to upholding constitutional rights and does not restrict access based on protected speech."

Tuttle added, "Consistent with these obligations, unauthorized entry into classrooms constitutes a violation of Board Policies and may warrant enforcement action to ensure the safety and security of all individuals on school property."

Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital reached out to Wesley, and also attempted to reach Pruitt for comment.Â

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

California school district allegedly gave fraudulent diplomas to Chinese students to enter US colleges

A 1,000-page county audit alleges Val Verde Unified School District issued unauthorized diplomas to nonresident Chinese students at a sister school in Qingdao.

An extensive audit revealed a California school district allegedly issued diplomas to students in China in addition to potentially "unlawful financial practices associated with the district’s international program."

The Val Verde Unified School District (VVUSD) in Riverside, California, was audited by the county’s superintendent of schools in a more than 1,000-page review that alleges the VVUSD gave unauthorized diplomas to nonresident, Chinese students at the district’s "sister school," Pegasus California School, in Qingdao, China.

"Our audit, commissioned by Dr. Gomez, raises serious concerns about academic integrity, taxpayer fraud, and may even implicate national security," Larson LLP partner Stephen G. Larson told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital. "We found that a California public school district improperly issued diplomas to students in China, and the broader record shows those California credentials may have been used to create false legitimacy for students seeking entry into American universities."

FBI RAID INVOLVING LA SCHOOLS SUPERINTENDENT POSSIBLY TIED TO FAILED $6M AI DEAL, POTENTIAL CONFLICT

Riverside County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edwin Gomez had authority to commission the audit under Education Code section 1241.5(b) after a 2021 Business Insider investigative report raised questions about the school district.

"Our responsibility is to safeguard the integrity of public education and ensure that taxpayer resources are used lawfully and transparently," Gomez said in a statement.Â

"This audit identified serious concerns that merit further review by the appropriate authorities," Gomez added. "We will continue to act with integrity, follow the law, and ensure that the interests of students and the public remain at the center of every decision."

The audit identified evidence that California high school diplomas "may have been issued to students who did not meet applicable legal or residency requirements," and that fraud and illegal fiscal practices were present in the school district.Â

Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital sat down with Riverside County Sheriff and GOP gubernatorial candidate Chad Bianco, who told Fox that the questionable partnership with the Chinese school is an example of corruption and fraud that exists across California.

"This school in Riverside County shows how corrupt these people really are, where they couldn't care less about taxpayer money, they couldn't care less about their own schools, it's how they can benefit themselves," Bianco told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital. "And so they benefit themselves by gaining, we have no idea how much money, by fraudulently giving diplomas to kids living in China."

TOP TRUMP ADMIN EDUCATION OFFICIAL EXPOSES BLUE STATE FINANCIAL AID FRAUD OFFENDERS

"These kids from China now come into the U.S. and get accepted into these colleges and universities, and California students get nothing," Bianco added.

Chinese students who received diplomas through the partnership were allegedly promised acceptance to top U.S. universities.

GOT A SCOOP ON CAMPUS? SEND US A TIP HERE

The audit revealed that teachers from the California school district allegedly taught at the school in China, and were provided living accommodations in furnished apartments.Â

"Those who accepted a position at Pegasus took an unpaid leave of absence and did not receive a salary or benefits from VVUSD; Pegasus paid annual salaries and provided benefits, including medical and dental benefits, a fully furnished apartment with all utilities paid, and meals," the audit reads.

SIGN UP TO GET CAMPUS RADICALS NEWSLETTER

As for the content being taught to students in China, the report uncovered that "pages regarding Taiwan had been ripped out of the history books" and that many instructors were not credentialed appropriately.Â

The report also alleges that "there is some evidence of potential bribes and/or kickbacks in the form of direct and indirect financial benefits" as a result of VVUSD’s leadership’s relationship with the Chinese school and claims there could be ties between the school and previous superintendent elections in southern California.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE CAMPUS RADICALS COAST TO COAST

A spokesperson for VVUSD told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital they are complying with the audit.Â

"The District will continue to fully comply with the audit process regarding Val Verde’s partnership with Pegasus California School from 2016–2020," the spokesperson said. "We remain focused on providing transparency and continuing to serve our students, families, and community."

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Reports indicate that Pegasus California School was previously listed on their website, though it no longer appears under the list of schools within the district.

The Pegasus California School website’s "news" section has not been updated since September 2024.

Mom of Virginia high schoolers where illegal alien allegedly groped girls outraged: 'terrifying as a parent'

Israel Flores Ortiz, 19-year-old from El Salvador who crossed into US in 2024, faces nine counts of assault and battery

Parents in Fairfax County, Virginia, are outraged after a 19-year-old illegal alien was charged for allegedly groping girls at the county's high school.

"It's terrifying as a parent because when I send my daughters to school, I think they're safe in the care of the school," Stacy Langton said. "And in this case, they absolutely were not safe, and I don't know what parent wouldn't be completely distraught at the idea that their daughters could be getting sexually battered while they're changing classes."

Israel Flores Ortiz, an illegal alien from El Salvador who crossed into the United States in 2024, was arrested and charged with nine counts of assault and battery stemming from the incidents. He is accused of committing the acts in school hallways while students were changing classes.

"I have two daughters at the school," Langton said. "I have a ninth grader and I have a senior. So, I called my senior into the room first, and I asked her, did she know about this, and she said, 'Yeah, I know all about it mom, everyone's talking about it.'"

SCHOOL DISTRICT IN THE HOT SEAT AMID FRESH ALLEGATIONS OF HIDING STUDENTS' GENDER TRANSITION

"That was very alarming, and then I called my ninth grader into the room and I said, 'Were you guys touched by the perpetrator?' And they said, ‘No,’ thank God. But they did know all about it, and they have friends who are amongst the 12 victims," she continued.

Langton, a well-known activist in the area who protested pornographic books in county schools in 2021 in what became a cultural flash point that helped boost former Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin to electoral victory, said that parents, including those she knows to be liberal, are "very, very angry" about the situation.

"The reaction from other parents is, you know, anger," she said. "My phone blew up last Saturday. As soon as the story broke, I started getting inundated with text messages going, 'Oh my goodness, did you know about this? Isn't this where your daughters go to school?'"

POLICE WARNED PROSECUTORS 3 TIMES ABOUT VIOLENT ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT BEFORE HE ALLEGEDLY KILLED VIRGINIA MOTHER

She also blames a Virginia policy that allows "English Learners" to remain in public schools up to age 22.

"The biggest problem with this situation — it isn't political, OK?" Langton said. "This is a public safety issue. This is a problem for every single parent in the school whether you're a Democrat, whether you are an Independent or whether you are a Republican. This is a public safety issue and every single parent's daughters are at risk because of this policy."

A Supreme Court case called Plyler v. Doe, decided in 1982, paved the way for illegal aliens to attend public schools, establishing that prohibiting the practice violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. The amendment says that no state shall "deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

Despite the allegations against Flores Ortiz, Langton praised the school for its handling of alleged crimes. She noted that once the victims reported what had happened, the school resource officer began an immediate investigation, eventually leading to the charges.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Fairfax County Public Schools did not return a Monday request for comment, but did address the situation last week.

"While Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is unable to comment on specifics due to federal and state privacy laws, we prioritize student and staff safety and we fully investigate any time someone shares that an incident has occurred at school, or that they do not feel safe at school," the district said in a statement. "We are grateful to our law enforcement partners who continue to work swiftly and thoroughly when there are safety concerns in our schools. The safety of all FCPS students and staff remains a top priority."

University leader admits schools are 'not a political party' in warning to elite campuses

Vanderbilt chancellor slams political 'litmus tests' and says 'identity groups' must end

Vanderbilt University Chancellor Daniel Diermeier warned this week that America’s elite universities are in trouble if they continue to prioritize political activism over their mission of spreading knowledge.

Diermeier joined the Washington Post’s "Reasonably Optimistic" podcast Wednesday to discuss the future of higher education and its role in culture wars. He stated that universities have become increasingly politicized, blaming that "mission drift" for the decrease of public trust in those institutions. Â

"The fundamental purpose of university is to be a place where you have path-breaking research and a transformative education," Diermeier said.Â

"You’re not a political party, and you're not part of a political movement," he added.Â

WHY ELITE COLLEGES FEAR TRUMP AND MCMAHON'S NEW ACADEMIC COMPACT TYING FUNDING TO FREE SPEECH

Diermeier specifically blasted the use of "political litmus tests" in hiring faculty and staff at top schools.Â

He also criticized sorting incoming students into identity categories during orientation, saying it can lead to students being "socially ostracized" for challenging conventional wisdom.

"When departments can't hire people or refuse to hire people based on their scholarly accomplishments, but when there's a political litmus test, you need to take action as a dean or president," Diermeier said.

UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA STUDENT JAMES GRACEY DISAPPEARS IN BARCELONA AFTER VISITING FRIENDS STUDYING ABROAD

He argued it’s not all faculty on campuses stoking political fires, but often a "small but well-motivated and organized minority." Diermeier noted that many faculty members want to work rather than engage in political battles.

"Once you enter the political battle, you're in the political battle, and that's where we are right now," he warned.

In recent years, universities have been at the center of cultural controversies, including protests over the Israel-Hamas war and the Black Lives Matter movement.Â

In March 2024, several students were arrested or suspended for their actions during a protest at Vanderbilt over the war in Gaza.

FEDERAL JUDGE STRIKES DOWN TEN COMMANDMENTS DISPLAYS IN SEVERAL ARKANSAS SCHOOL DISTRICTS

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

The pressure is also coming from Washington. A House Committee on Education and the Workforce released a report Tuesday, which found some higher education faculty members "amplifying antisemitism."

Last year, the Trump administration’s Department of Education announced that at least 60 universities were under investigation for antisemitism and harassment, including Ivy League schools.

Illegal immigrant groping case latest allegation of misconduct in Northern Virginia school system

Israel Flores Ortiz, 19, faces nine assault charges after multiple female students reported inappropriate touching at Fairfax High School

Virginia’s largest public school district is facing renewed scrutiny after parents accused Fairfax County Public Schools officials this week of delaying notification that an adult student identified as an illegal immigrant allegedly groped multiple female classmates.

News broke last week that Israel Flores Ortiz, 19, a junior at Fairfax High School, was charged with nine counts of assault and battery after multiple female students accused him of inappropriately touching them while they were walking in school hallways between classes.

Furious parents who spoke with Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital and local news outlet WJLA this week claim school officials waited two weeks to inform parents and the move only came after parental pressure. They also claim district officials sanitized the nature of the groping.

The district said in a statement, "While Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is unable to comment on specifics due to federal and state privacy laws, we prioritize student and staff safety and fully investigate any time someone reports an incident or says they do not feel safe at school. We are grateful to our law enforcement partners, who continue to work swiftly and thoroughly when there are safety concerns in our schools. The safety of all FCPS students and staff remains a top priority."

SCHOOL BOARD SETTLES WITH BOYS ACCUSED OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT OVER TRANSGENDER STUDENT LOCKER ROOM INCIDENT

The Fairfax High allegations follow several other criminal cases involving alleged sexual misconduct tied to FCPS schools in recent years.

In September 2025, Thomas Edison High School instructional assistant Derrick Burroughs was arrested after Fairfax County police alleged he sexually assaulted two students on separate occasions. He was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery and indecent liberties by a custodian and put on administrative leave, according to police.

The incident followed two other teachers in the district being arrested on sex crime charges in February 2025.

Fairview Elementary School teacher John Barger was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery after detectives alleged he sexually assaulted two students on separate occasions. Later court reporting identified the students as ages 10 and 11.

TRUMP ADMIN ASKS SPANBERGER, VIRGINIA OFFICIALS TO NOT RELEASE ILLEGAL CHARGED WITH GROPING HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS

WJLA reported that parents questioned why they were not notified until weeks after the allegations surfaced.

"We expect that anyone who works with children is focused on their safety and well-being," an FCPS spokesperson told WJLA 7News at the time. "When that trust is broken, it deeply affects us all. As soon as we were made aware of these allegations, the teacher was removed from our schools and has not returned."

Also in February 2025, Falls Church High School teacher Richard Joseph Berkowitz was arrested in a Fairfax County child exploitation sting and charged with four counts of solicitation of a minor and two counts of production of child sexual abuse material, police said. Public reporting did not identify FCPS students as alleged victims in that case. He was suspended from teaching upon the arrest, according to authorities.

In 2024, several other cases drew public attention.

In September 2024, police charged former after-school contractor Arturo Elmore-Adon with seven counts of unlawful filming after investigators said they found videos he allegedly took of four girls, all FCPS elementary school students.

VIRGINIA PROSECUTOR’S RECORD ON VIOLENT OFFENDERS SCRUTINIZED AFTER ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT CHARGED IN MOM'S MURDER

At Langley High School, football coach and teacher David Clay Murray was arrested in August 2024 and charged with five counts of sexual solicitation of a minor, WJLA reported, after investigators said he solicited sex acts while communicating with an undercover detective posing as a 15-year-old girl.

Then in October 2024, Langley instructional assistant David Scalea was arrested after police said a student reported seeing him masturbating in a classroom. He was charged with obscene sexual display and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to Fox5DC.

In October 2023, Groveton Elementary School teacher James William Nugent II was charged with taking indecent liberties with a child and 13 counts of distributing child pornography after police said he exposed himself to a juvenile and investigators found child sexual abuse material during a search of his home. Police said they believed he may have exposed himself to other children in the area as well.

In April 2023, James Madison High School learning disabilities teacher Allieh Kheradmand was charged with four counts of indecent liberties by a custodian after a student disclosed an inappropriate sexual relationship with her, according to the FCPD.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE

FCPS did not immediately respond Wednesday to a request for comment about district-wide student-safety policies or the timeline for notifying families in the new Fairfax High case.

The Northern Virginia school system has been criticized by conservative education activists for prioritizing "far-left" policies over student safety concerns because of its gender policies and policies protecting immigrant students from ICE.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Fairfax is one of five Northern Virginia school systems whose transgender bathroom policies triggered a threat by the Trump administration to pull federal funding, after the administration argued they were violating Title IX.

Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ' Taylor Penley contributed to this report.

College Republicans of America stands by new political director amid scrutiny of past controversial comments

Schwemmer told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital he was done with the 'cancel culture paradigm of division'

The College Republicans of America (CRA) is facing backlash after appointing Kai Schwemmer as its new political director, with critics pointing to his past controversial statements and ties to figures associated with the "groyper" movement.

Schwemmer, who was tapped by the CRA for a leadership role earlier this month, has ties to far-right influencer Nick Fuentes and has made numerous statements that some critics described as antisemitic.Â

He also has a channel on Cozy.Tv, a platform founded by Fuentes and Alex Jones. While the channel appears to be actively gaining followers, the last video listed under the "replays" section was from June 2025.

Schwemmer appeared in a 2021 video promoting Fuentes' "White Boy Summer" tour and was a "special guest" at Fuentes' 2022 America First Political Action Conference, according to Jewish Insider.

UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA DISCRIMINATED AGAINST COLLEGE REPUBLICANS CHAPTER, ATTORNEY CLAIMS

In a December interview with Reawaken USA, Schwemmer claimed that the CEOs of Raytheon and Boeing were Jewish, grouping them in with "Zionists in America" who would back U.S. involvement in and support of Israel "no matter what," even though neither of the top executives are Jewish.Â

When asked about his comments, a representative for CRA said Schwemmer's "intention was not to be antisemitic or incorrect, but rather that he’d encountered false information while researching."

The College Republicans of America was formed in 2023 amid a disagreement with establishment leadership at the College Republican National Committee. Its goal is to "aid the GOP in cultivating the next generation of Republican activists, staffers, and leaders."

Several Jewish organizations, like the ADL and StopAntisemitism, condemned Schwemmer’s appointment, citing his controversial past.

"Fuentes holds strong influence over his fans, the 'Groyper Army,' and regularly jokes about the Holocaust. Schwemmer has appeared at Fuentes' conferences, streams on his platform and has spread conspiracy theories about 'Zionists' in America," Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt wrote on X.Â

"At a time when we have witnessed the real dangers of antisemitism in higher education and know there is a clear and growing problem on campuses, elevating individuals who promote this kind of hate-filled rhetoric undermines the credibility of the organization and the values it claims to uphold," StopAntisemitism founder and Executive Director Liora Rez said in a statement to Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital.

Schwemmer, who studies at Brigham Young University in Utah, issued a statement March 13 saying his past remarks did not reflect his current beliefs.

"Life is a process of growth and refinement. My comments in high school and as a teenager should not be taken to accurately reflect my views or demeanor now. I condemn all forms of hatred, including antisemitism, obviously," Schwemmer wrote on X in a direct response to Greenblatt.Â

"I’m not a groyper; I am simply and unapologetically an American nationalist. Additionally, all positions I hold are personal ones, not those of the CRA. I reject the ADL’s allegation that the College Republicans or I currently hate or have ever hated Jews."

Schwemmer acknowledged that, in the past, he spoke "in ways that were unnecessarily crass or demeaning," adding that "since returning from my service as a missionary, I have made adjustments to become a better disciple of Christ." He did not elaborate in the post about which opinions had changed or to what specific remarks he was referring.Â

MARYLAND WOMAN SAYS TPUSA HIGH SCHOOL EVENT RAISED 'SERIOUS CONCERNS,' SAYS CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES NOTIFIED

CRA's leadership did not back down when faced with mounting criticism. CRA President Martin Bertao said he would not apologize for choosing Schwemmer.

"Over the last day I have done a lot of reflecting on my decision to appoint Kai as CRA’s political director. And in that reflection I have came [sic] to the decision that I would like to apologize… to absolutely NOBODY, CRA will never back down to the WOKE mob!" he wrote March 6.

Bertao responded to Schwemmer's statement, saying he looked forward to the new political director playing a key role in CRA's efforts to help support Republicans in the midterm elections.Â

Schwemmer is also listed as a speaker for Turning Point USA's Pick Up the Mic initiative, which was started to honor the memory of TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk.

Turning Point USA didn't respond for comment.Â

JEWISH GROUP DEMANDS FIRING OF BROADCASTER WHO CALLED 'ZIONIST' ISRAELI OLYMPIAN SUPPORTER OF 'GENOCIDE'

In response to Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital's inquiries about Schwemmer and the controversy surrounding his appointment, Macy Gunnell, CRA's vice president of communications, pointed to a letter released by CRA Chairman William Donahue saying that "we are moving forward now not feeding into any divisions among the Right, and instead focusing all of that energy on campaigning and electing Republicans."

Schwemmer echoed this sentiment in his statement to Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital, saying, "I, along with the rest of the college Republicans, are done feeding into the 'eat your own' cancel culture paradigm of division that only seeks to advantage the left. We’re interested in constructing a better future for Americans, and every minute spent focusing on quote-mining and drama is a minute not spent fighting to pass legislation like the Save America Act which will have a real effect on the nation's trajectory."

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Schwemmer was critical last month of President Donald Trump over his administration's handling of the Epstein files.

"We started out not trusting the government, so we voted for Trump and for something new," he told The New York Times.
Leaked teachers' union K-12 training presentation rails against Trump administration, red states

The NEA has faced heightened criticism in recent months for allegedly putting political activism before student needs

FIRST ON FOX: The National Education Association, which — with 3 million members — is one of the largest teachers’ unions in the country, conducted a training session last month filled with far-left political messaging, a watchdog group has revealed. The revelation comes as the union continues to face criticism for prioritizing activism over student needs.Â

The NEA event on Feb. 23, billed as an "Advocacy and Free Speech Rights for K-12 Educators" training, promoted a variety of leftist causes and criticisms of the Trump administration in slides obtained by Defending Education, a national organization that monitors political content in schools.Â

The NEA training argues that the Department of Education is "now actively committed to violating civil rights," and that educators need to protect "vulnerable students."

In the slide presentation, the NEA claims that "Democracy itself is at stake" due to an "unprecedented push to criminalize speech and political opposition."

GOT A SCOOP ON CAMPUS? SEND US A TIP HERE

The teachers' union appears to take issue with the Trump administration's designation of Antifa as a terrorist organization given slides that show screenshots with the headlines: "Trump Signs Order Targeting Antifa Movement" and "White House Use of ‘Domestic Terrorist’ Doesn’t Match Legal Reality."

The training made clear the importance of adhering to gender pronouns and the specified gender identity of K-12 students, saying that educators "can (and should address) students in the way they identify themselves," regardless of whether the way they "identity" differs from school records.

The training also took aim at Republican-led states, saying, "It’s not just the Trump Administration… it’s Red State governments as well" in a slide with headlines lamenting banning DEI in schools, Texas wanting to "punish" students who protest ICE, and a headline that said, "Charlie Kirk’s death prompts Iowa bill revoking teacher licenses for celebrating political violence."

TOP TEACHERS UNION UNDER FIRE AS LAWMAKERS PUSH TO STRIP UNION OF UNIQUE FEDERAL CHARTER: 'LOST THEIR WAY'

The presentation to members also includes a scenario providing potential responses to teachers who face backlash for displaying Black Lives Matter or Pride flags in their classrooms, instructing them to push back and ask questions like "was there a pre-existing policy?" and "is the policy viewpoint-neutral and applied in a neutral manner?"

Educators are told in the agenda for the training that they will learn about threats to educators' voice and freedom, as well as guidance "for when legal protections will be more robust or when educators may be more at risk."

"This is not, in any sense, a training on educator rights," Chloe Hunt, investigative reporter for Defending Education, told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital. "It is a political framing of the classroom, in which all Republicans are demonized and conservatives are portrayed as threats to education."

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital reached out to the NEA for comment.Â

In recent months, the NEA has faced strong pushback from conservatives and parents' rights activists over the millions of dollars it has funneled to left-wing groups, with critics pointing to the number of students struggling with poor test scores at the same time.

In January, an employee within the NEA, spoke out against the "toxic" politics inside the union's headquarters.

"It's a very liberal place. There's only a handful of conservatives that work at NEA, and if you are, it's like you just don't say anything, because it's a very toxic environment if you do say something," an NEA employee, who is remaining anonymous due to concerns of retribution, told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital. "It's crazy, they'll send out this weekly newsletter of ‘Trump's a fascist’ and blast it to all the states."

"It's a cult. It's 100% a cult and if you don't have their mindset, you're the enemy."

College Republicans chapter sues University of Florida over club shutdown following antisemitic allegations

Chapter claims university cited wrong organization as authority for disbanding them following antisemitic allegations

The University of Florida College Republicans (UFCR) chapter filed a lawsuit against the University of Florida (UF) after the club was shut down over antisemitic claims made by an outside organization.Â

The disbanding occurred after a journalist posted a photo of a member allegedly performing a Nazi salute, and claimed to have sent the image to "the FBI and others."Â

"The University of Florida was recently informed by the Florida Federation of College Republicans (FFCR) that it has disbanded the local chapter of College Republicans (the Local CR)," the university said in a statement. "This request is based on the FFCR’s findings that some Local CR members engaged in a pattern of conduct that violated its rules and values, including a recent antisemitic gesture."

UF College Republicans (UFCR) responded to the statement on X, saying FFCR has no authority over UFCR and has nothing to do with their organization. Instead, they note they are members of College Republicans of America.

LOYOLA NEW ORLEANS TPUSA CHAPTER DENIED AGAIN AFTER 'ABSOLUTELY APPALLING' STUDENT GOVERNMENT MEETING: STUDENT

"They cited the FFCR, an organization that we are not a part of that has no authority over our chapter," UFCR posted. "We are proud members of a different organization [College Republicans of America]."

"We look forward to the University reinstating our club and correcting this statement," the post continued. "We have retained counsel and have received information that this is not the first time that FFCR has lied to silence christian conservative groups on campus."

GOT A SCOOP ON CAMPUS? SEND US A TIP HERE

College Republicans of America also defended the chapter, reposting UFCR’s statement that they expect UF to reinstate the UF chapter.

UFCR also filed a lawsuit against the university, backed by Lake County, Florida, County Commissioner and attorney Anthony Sabatini, who posted to X about the disbanding of UFCR.

SIGN UP TO GET CAMPUS RADICALS NEWSLETTER

"The University of Florida punitively deactivated and shut down the UFCR, in response to alleged viewpoints expressed by a member of UFCR, and in an effort to silence the club and chill its future speech," Sabatini posted. "After the deactivation, UF sought to justify its unlawful decision by providing a false pretext as a basis, asserting that it had acted at the behest of a third-party group, the Florida Federation of College Republicans (FFCR), a group with no authority over or affiliation with UFCR."

"No university policy, rule, or law provides UF a lawful basis for the deactivation," the post continued. "We are seeking an emergency preliminary injunction."

CLICK HERE FOR MORE CAMPUS RADICALS COAST TO COAST

William Donahue, the chairman of College Republicans of America, released a statement on the matter, saying that "doxxing one another" is damaging the GOP agenda.Â

"We cannot keep fighting one another harder than we fight the Left," Donahue said in a statement. "We cannot keep spending our energy on endless internal vendettas while the country asks who will lower prices, secure the streets, defend the border, and restore order."

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

"We cannot keep doxxing one another, condemning one another, trying to destroy organizations, reputations, and livelihoods, and then expect the public to believe we are ready to govern," Donahue said.

Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital reached out to UFCR, Donahue, FFCR and Sabatini, but did not receive responses in time for publication.Â

Chicago Public Schools will now allow Bible college students into its teaching program, after lawsuit

Moody Bible Institute can now participate in student-teaching program after CPS agrees to recognize college's faith-based hiring practices

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) will no longer bar students from a Bible college from participating in its student-teaching program after reaching a settlement Thursday in the college's religious discrimination case.

Moody Bible Institute, a private Christian college in Chicago, sued the Chicago Board of Education in November, alleging CPS had unlawfully blocked its students from participating in the district’s student-teaching program because of the school’s religious hiring practices.

The lawsuit claims CPS excluded Moody students from its student teacher internship program after the college refused to abandon its policy of hiring employees who affirm the school’s statement of faith and agree to live according to its Christian beliefs, including on gender and sexuality.

"As a condition of participation, Chicago Public Schools insists that Moody sign agreements with employment nondiscrimination provisions that forbid Moody from employing only those who share and live out its faith," the complaint stated. "Such a requirement is unlawful."

NASHVILLE TEACHER ALLEGEDLY THREATENED WITH TERMINATION FOR REFUSING TO READ LGBTQ BOOK TO FIRST GRADERS

Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) said Thursday that the settlement resolves the dispute.

According to the Christian legal group, CPS agreed to modify its Student Teacher Internship Agreement to recognize Moody’s right to maintain its faith-based hiring practices, allowing the college to sign the agreement and participate in the student-teaching program. ADF also said CPS now lists Moody as an approved university partner on its website.

"Chicago desperately needs more teachers to fill hundreds of vacancies, and Moody’s students will be well-equipped and qualified to help meet that need," ADF Senior Counsel Jeremiah Galus said in a press release.

"Moody holds its faculty and students to high standards of excellence, and we’re pleased to reach this favorable outcome that will allow it to participate in Chicago Public Schools’ student-teaching program," he continued. "We’re hopeful other public officials will take note that they can’t inject themselves illegally and unconstitutionally into a religious non-profit’s hiring practices."

TRANS KINDERGARTEN TEACHER IDENTIFYING AS ‘WOLF’ FIRED AFTER PARENTS RAISE COMPLAINTS

According to the complaint, CPS had told the religious college it would need to sign two nondiscrimination agreements to participate in the teaching program. The agreements required Moody to stop hiring only employees who share its Christian beliefs and agree to its code of conduct. They specifically prohibited discrimination based on religion, gender identity or expression, and sexual orientation.

The complaint said that CPS denied Moody's request to modify the language in the agreement to recognize its rights to hire people of the same faith, and selectively enforced its policy, alleging other religious colleges with similar hiring practices were approved for the program.

"We are deeply grateful that a resolution has been reached affirming our constitutional right to hire individuals who are aligned with our core mission and biblical values," Moody Provost Dr. Tim Sisk said in the press release. "Moody’s Elementary Education students are eager and well-prepared to participate in the CPS student teaching program, which is an essential and formative part of their journey toward becoming effective educators."

CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE

ADF attorneys filed a stipulated dismissal in the case Thursday.Â

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

"Chicago Public Schools (CPS) values its partnerships, including those who provide additional school staff support through student teachers training to eventually lead their own classrooms," Chicago Public Schools said in a statement to Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital.
Defending Education found 50+ districts adopted 'Policy 425' providing financial incentives specifically for 'teachers of color' and American Indian educators

More than 50 Minnesota K-12 school districts are offering race-based, taxpayer-funded financial incentives for "teachers of color"Â and "teachers who are American Indian," equipped with "affinity groups" that protect minority staff members from layoffs.Â

"Policy 425 – Staff Development and Mentoring" and programs with similar names have been implemented in K-12 school districts across Minnesota.

"Public schools providing financial incentives based on race is racial discrimination, plain and simple," Paul Runko, senior director of Strategic Initiatives for Defending Education, told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital. "These 50 school districts need to take a hard look at these policies, both morally and legally, and make the changes needed to comply with federal civil rights law."

Defending Education uncovered the large number of school districts who adopted Policy 425, which states that a "district may use staff development revenue, special grant programs established by the legislature, or another funding source."

GOT A SCOOP ON CAMPUS?
Utah bill would allow students to obtain religious accommodations for assignments that violate their beliefs

Rep Michael Petersen was inspired to sponsor the legislation after his daughter was assigned to write a letter advocating for LGBTQ policy

A Utah bill that would require public colleges and universities to make "reasonable" accommodations when coursework conflicts with a student’s religious or conscience beliefs has passed the state legislature and is awaiting action by Republican Gov. Spencer Cox.

House Bill 204, titled "Higher Education Student Belief Accommodation," says institutions must "reasonably accommodate" a student’s participation in "an examination or other academic requirement" by steps such as "excusing participation," offering "an alternative deadline or schedule," or offering "an alternative examination or assignment."

For courses required for graduation or a major, the bill requires accommodations unless the request would fundamentally alter the objectives of the course and harm a student’s ability to meet essential outcomes or competencies.

Republican Rep. Michael J. Petersen, the bill's chief sponsor, told the Utah Statesman he was inspired by his daughter’s experience with an assignment that asked her to write a letter advocating for LGBTQ policy.

GOP LAWMAKER VOWS TO GIVE PARENTS MORE POWER AS SCHOOLS 'BLATANTLY' VIOLATE STUDENTS' RIGHTS

"A year or so ago, my daughter called me, just finishing her master’s at a school outside of our state," Petersen told the paper. "She called and said, ‘Hey, dad, I’ve got an assignment. I’m supposed to write a letter to my legislator advocating on behalf of LGBT policy.’"

The lawmaker said the assignment amounted to compelled speech, and raised First Amendment concerns.

Petersen also said the bill would protect students who fear retaliation for speaking up about assignments that conflict with their beliefs.

"Students often, if not typically, see themselves as beholden to their professors," Petersen said in February when presenting the bill in a committee hearing, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. "These students are often put in a difficult position."

UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA REMOVES PROFESSOR FOR ALLEGED DISCRIMINATION RELATED TO TA WHO GAVE CHRISTIAN STUDENT 0

Students would be required to submit written prior notice for the accommodation and requests must stay confidential, unless disclosure is permitted by law. The bill also bars compelled public advocacy, saying professors "may not compel a student to publicly take or communicate a specified position on a matter of public concern as the student's own," including by requiring a student to write to a legislator or post opinions online.

If an instructor denies a request, they must notify the student and the institution of the reason for the denial, and institutional policies must provide for a neutral arbiter to review the decision.

The bill, which is set to take effect on May 6, has raised academic freedom concerns from some professors, according to media reports.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE

Rick McDonald, an English professor at Utah Valley University, told The College Fix in a report published Thursday that he feared language in the bill referring to "activities" was too vague and broad and could lead to students objecting to group assignments where other students hold different opinions.

Joe LaSure, a faculty member at Utah State University, also told the Tribune the bill would further exacerbate the "chilling effects Utah is already experiencing" after Cox signed a bill banning diversity, equity and inclusion programs in public education.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

"We cannot deliver content in a climate of fear," he told the outlet.

Petersen told the Statesman the bill would not allow students to avoid coursework or change the objectives or learning standards of a class. He also emphasized it was not meant to benefit any political party or religion.

First grade student disciplined over Black Lives Matter drawing does have free speech rights, court rules

Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals revives lawsuit after California student was allegedly punished for giving drawing to Black classmate

A federal appeals court ruled Tuesday that elementary school students have First Amendment protections, reviving a lawsuit brought on behalf of a Southern California first grader who was allegedly punished after giving a drawing to a classmate.

In its decision, a three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals vacated U.S. District Judge David O. Carter’s grant of summary judgment to the defendants and sent the case back for further proceedings.

Applying the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark 1969 student-speech decision in Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District, the panel wrote: "We hold that elementary students' speech is protected by the First Amendment, the age of the students is a relevant factor under Tinker, and schools may restrict students' speech only when the restriction is reasonably necessary to protect the safety and well-being of its students."

The dispute stems from a March 2021 incident, when plaintiff "B.B." was a first-grade student at Viejo Elementary School in the Capistrano Unified School District. After a classroom story about Martin Luther King Jr., "B.B." "felt bad" because "Black people… were put in a worse position" and made a drawing showing "all her friends holding hands," the opinion said.

FEDERAL APPEALS COURT SIDES WITH WASHINGTON PROFESSOR PUNISHED FOR MOCKING UNIVERSITY LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

The drawing included the words "Black Lives Mater [sic] any life," the court said.

Afterward, she gave the drawing to her classmate, 'M.C.," who is Black, and the classmate thanked her and took it home. When M.C.'s mother discovered the drawing, she became "concerned" that child was being singled out as the only Black student in her grade to receive such a drawing.

The next day, M.C.’s mother emailed the school’s principal, Jesus Becerra, saying she appreciated "Black Lives Matter" but did not trust what "any life" meant, according to the opinion.

She wrote that she and her husband would not tolerate "any more messages given to our daughter because of her skin color," adding, "We do not send [M.C.] to school with flyers or propaganda. We only send her to school to learn the curriculum and that is it."

NORTH CAROLINA TEEN SUES SCHOOL AFTER CHARLIE KIRK TRIBUTE SPARKED ‘CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION’ AND CENSORSHIP

The mother also asked the school to take action.

According to the opinion, Beccerra spoke with B.B. the next day and allegedly told her that the picture was "not appropriate" and "racist" and she should not give drawings to other students. B.B. was asked to apologize to M.C. and testified she was barred from recess for two weeks. Becerra denied calling the drawing inappropriate or racist.

B.B. did not tell her parents about the incident, and more than 11 months later, her mother learned of it from another parent and filed a complaint with the school district. The district ultimately denied there was strong evidence to back B.B.'s claims, and she was disciplined over the incident and her mother then filed suit in federal court alleging First Amendment violations and retaliation.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE

On Tuesday, the appeals panel said Tinker applies in the elementary school context and emphasized that schools bear the burden of justifying restrictions on student speech.

It also concluded that disputes of material fact remained, including conflicting evidence about whether Becerra could reasonably conclude the drawing interfered with M.C.’s rights and whether the actions taken were reasonably necessary.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

B.B.'s attorneys at the Pacific Legal Foundation celebrated the ruling in a press release.

"Today’s ruling affirms what should be obvious: Students don’t lose their constitutional rights just because they’re young," said Caleb Trotter, senior attorney at Pacific Legal Foundation. "The Constitution protects every student’s right to free expression. No child should be punished for expressing a well-intentioned message to a friend."

Becerra and Capistrano Unified School District did not immediately return Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital's request for comment.

Legal threat alleges New York's CSTEP program discriminates against White and Asian students in favor of minorities

FIRST ON FOX—New York could face legal action over a state-funded college enrichment program after two groups warned Gov. Kathy Hochul that the program’s eligibility rules allow for discrimination against White and Asian students.

In a demand letter sent Wednesday and obtained by Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital, the Pacific Legal Foundation (PLF) and the Equal Protection Project (EPP) urged Hochul and Education Department Commissioner Betty A. Rosa to change the state-funded Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP), arguing it violates the Equal Protection Clause by authorizing eligibility based on race and ethnicity.

CSTEP, a grant-funded program sponsored by the New York State Department of Education, is an academic and professional development program intended to help minority students and economically disadvantaged students pursue careers in math, science, technology and health-related fields. Under state law, the program offers financial aid, tutoring, counseling and remedial and special summer courses to eligible students.

State regulations limit eligibility to those who are either economically disadvantaged or those who are "historically underrepresented" minorities, defined as Black, Hispanic, American Indian or Alaskan Native students. The two groups argue this allows for discrimination against White and Asian students, who have to prove they are economically disadvantaged to qualify.

WATCHDOG EXPOSES TAXPAYER-FUNDED TEACHER PROGRAM FOR BANNING WHITE APPLICANTS: 'LIKELY ILLEGAL'

After PLF and EPP filed a federal lawsuit in 2024 challenging the state's sister program for high school students — STEP — New York officials issued interim guidance to program administrators in 2025 saying they may base eligibility decisions for new students in both programs solely on economic disadvantage and "without regard" to race or ethnicity.

But PLF and EPP argue some campuses still apply or advertise the "historically underrepresented" requirement. They point to the University at Albany’s CSTEP page, which states applicants may qualify as "economically disadvantaged and/or historically underrepresented" and lists underrepresented minority groups. The website also says it is "not currently accepting new applications."

The letter asks the governor to say by March 25 whether New York will eliminate race as an eligibility criterion for CSTEP, or potentially face further legal action.

"The Supreme Court has made clear that state programs that allocate benefits or opportunities based on race are presumptively unconstitutional," the groups wrote, citing the 2023 Students for Fair Admissions decision.

OVER 100 CALIFORNIA COLLEGES ACCUSED OF DISCRIMINATING AGAINST US-BORN STUDENTS IN NEW DOJ COMPLAINT

In a statement to Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital, Cornell law professor and founder of the Equal Protection Project, William Jacobson, said, "It is shameful that the State of New York requires, funds, and defends racially discriminatory programming just because the victims are Asian and White students. This would never be tolerated if the victims were Black or Hispanic."

Erin Wilcox, a senior attorney at Pacific Legal Foundation, said, "CSTEP should be open to all qualified students, regardless of race."

"Racial discrimination has no place in a publicly-funded program like CSTEP, and NYSED should stop funding CSTEP programs that treat applicants differently based on race or ethnicity," she continued in a statement to Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital. "It's time for Commissioner Rosa and her department to show they're serious about equal opportunity for all New York students."Â

CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE

PLF and EPP are already challenging STEP in a similar case in federal court in Chu v. Rosa. The case was filed in January 2024, and allowed to proceed in November 2024, after U.S. District Judge David N. Hurd denied the state’s motion to dismiss.

Jacobson thanked the Asian parents and organizations "who were brave enough to be plaintiffs" in the STEP court case, saying the college program "also deserves legal challenge" and invited Asian and White students who've been discriminated against through this program to share their story.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Gov. Hochul's office and New York Education Department Commissioner Betty A. Rosa did not immediately return Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital's request for comment.

The University at Albany told Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Digital, "As noted on the program website, the program is not currently accepting applications. When the program application window opens, the website will also be updated to reflect that UAlbany’s CSTEP program relies on race-neutral and ethnicity-neutral eligibility criteria."
