Massie positions himself for potential political future after primary defeat: 'I won't be going away silently'

Rep. Thomas Massie — who lost the Republican primary in Kentucky's 4th Congressional District to President Donald Trump-backed challenger Ed Gallrein — is leaving the door open to the possibility of running for office again in the future.

"I filed with FEC for the 2028 House race. This allows me to raise funds to continue my political operations supporting my position as a current office holder and as a potential candidate for federal office," the congressman wrote in a Monday post on X.

"I haven’t made a final decision about which office to seek, if I run," he added.

Speaking at a University of Louisville College Republicans event on April 6, Massie said, "If I lose on May 19, I am not doing any more government ever."

In a statement provided to ӣ��Ƶ Digital on Tuesday, Massie said, "I’m keeping every option open, and there’s still an undisclosed paid social media campaign to rewrite history and diminish the platform the Epstein class gave me when they spent tens of millions of dollars to buy the seat. I won’t be going away silently."

Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL, decisively won the GOP U.S. House primary in Kentucky, defeating Massie, an incumbent who has served in Congress since late 2012.

"There’s a quiet all out war for the future of our country. Let us not misdirect our precious resources. I respect those who want to make sure, but I won’t be requesting a recount," Massie wrote in a post on X last week.

"Meet the Press" moderator Kristen Welker asked Massie on Sunday if he is considering a 2028 presidential run.

House Republicans are reportedly frustrated by the Senate GOP's move to kick the can down the road instead of voting on a budget reconciliation package pertaining to immigration enforcement this week.

"The Senate’s demonstrated once again that they don’t even know how to get their work done properly," Republican Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida said, according to The Hill.

President Donald Trump is backing Donalds for Florida governor.

"It’s gutless, and I’m very frustrated," Republican Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennessee said, according to the outlet. "They need to work. They didn’t want to work …. The Senate ought to be calling on the leadership over there. If the House did it, I’d be doing it too."

President Donald Trump indicated on Truth Social in April that he wanted a bill on his desk by June 1 to provide funding for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Border Patrol.

The Justice Department recently announced an "Anti-weaponization Fund," noting in a press release "that as a part of the settlement agreement in President Donald J. Trump v. Internal Revenue Service, the Attorney General established 'The Anti-Weaponization Fund' to provide a systematic process to hear and redress claims of others who suffered weaponization and lawfare."

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche met with Senate Republicans on Thursday.

Sources told ӣ��Ƶ Digital that over two dozen Republicans demanded answers from Blanche on what kind of guardrails could be put into the fund, and specifically if those convicted for assaulting police officers during the Jan. 6, 2021, riots could be excluded.

There have been discussions of including those guardrails into the reconciliation package, given that the Senate Judiciary Committee, which oversees the DOJ, is a major part of the process.

A spokesperson for the Justice Department told ӣ��Ƶ Digital that Blanche had a "healthy discussion on the settlement."

"He made clear that the Anti-Weaponization Fund announced Monday has nothing to do with reconciliation. Indeed, not a single dime from the money the president is seeking in reconciliation would go toward anything having to do with the fund," the spokesperson said. "We will continue to work with the Senate to get critical reconciliation funds approved."

Minnesota fraud suspect who jumped from building is arrested, FBI says

A Minnesota suspect accused of perpetrating fraud was captured after fleeing from law enforcement, according to FBI Director Kash Patel.

"After today’s interagency press conference announcing 15 public healthcare fraud indictments in Minnesota, the below subject who fled when FBI executed today’s raid — Muhammad Omar — has now been arrested," Patel announced in a Thursday post on X.

FBI Co-Deputy Director Christopher Raia had said during a news conference on Thursday that an individual fled after leaping from a fourth-story balcony.

Trump champions bid to nix clock changes by adopting permanent daylight saving time

President Donald Trump is championing the prospect of putting the kibosh on twice-annual clock changes by making daylight saving time permanent.

A bill to make daylight saving time permanent has been folded into a larger measure that the House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced in a 48-1 vote on Thursday.

"Big Vote today (48-1!) in the Energy and Commerce Committee on a Bill including The Sunshine Protection Act, which will be making Daylight Saving Time Permanent! This is so important in that Hundreds of Millions of Dollars are spent every year by people, Cities, and States, being forced to change their Clocks. Many of these Clocks are located in Towers, and the cost of renting, or using, Heavy Equipment to do this twice a year is prohibitive!" Trump wrote in a Thursday Truth Social post.

The push is actually bipartisan.

"The legislation has 32 bipartisan cosponsors in the House, and Senate companion legislation (S. 29) introduced by Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla.) has 18 bipartisan cosponsors," Buchanan's release noted.

The proposal would not compel a state that is not observing daylight saving time to start observing it.

In a Truth Social post last year, Trump called for Congress to address the issue.

After Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., lost the Republican U.S. House primary in Kentucky's 4th Congressional District to President Donald Trump-backed challenger Ed Gallrein on Tuesday, former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene declared that the future of the GOP had been "destroyed."

"I am proud and thankful to have served in the U.S. House of Representatives with my friend Thomas Massie, a giant among weak pathetic men. Releasing the Epstein files was our demise. But it was worth every single bit because now everyone knows the truth. You are ruled by the Epstein class that cares nothing about you and your elected leaders are bought and controlled by a foreign lobby," she wrote in a post on X.

A bipartisan Senate duo are pushing a proposal to permanently prohibit former lawmakers and elected officers of Congress from lobbying.

Republican Sen. Rick Scott of Florida and Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts have teamed up on a measure called the "Banning Lobbying And Safeguarding Trust Act," or "BLAST Act."

Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee announced on Friday that he signed a document requesting not to be included on the ballot in Tennessee's 9th Congressional District.

The congressman described the district determined by "new lines" as "nothing like the 9th district that I've represented."

The Democratic primary in the district is scheduled to take place in August.

Redistricting was approved in the state last week.

Cohen's office says the lawmaker's "majority-Black district was gerrymandered into three Republican-leaning districts by the state General Assembly last week."

Cohen is ending his re-election bid after more than 19 years in Congress — he took office in early 2007.

U.S. President Donald Trump has wrapped up his trip to China where he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping this week.

This was Trump's first trip to China during his current term. He had previously visited China during his first administration.

The president spoke to the press aboard Air Force One, calling Xi "an incredible guy."

Trump added, "I'd now like to raise a glass and propose a toast to the rich and enduring ties between the American and Chinese people. It's a very special relationship," he said.

During his remarks on the way back to the U.S. aboard Air Force One, Trump indicated that the visit could take place September 24 or September 26.

Before the Iran war, President Donald Trump was "poised" to strike a "better deal" with the regime than the President Barack Obama-era Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent asserted in a Thursday post on X.

"Prior to letting the Israelis lead us into this war, President Trump was actually poised to cut a better deal than the JCPOA (aka the Obama Iran deal)," Kent wrote.

"The Iranians feared and respected Trump in a way they never respected Obama—he took out the terror mastermind Qasem Soleimani, yet was prudent enough not to get sucked into the quicksand of another Middle Eastern quagmire that would only favor Iran and strengthen its hardliners," he continued.

"Joe Kent’s self-aggrandizing resignation letter and recent comments are riddled with lies. Most egregious are Kent’s false claims that the largest state sponsor of terrorism somehow did not pose a threat to the United States and that Israel forced the President into launching Operation Epic Fury. As Commander-in-Chief, President Trump took decisive action based on strong evidence which showed that the terrorist Iranian regime posed an imminent threat and was preparing to strike Americans first. President Trump’s number one priority has always been ensuring the safety and security of the American people," Ingle said in the statement.

While testifying at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on Thursday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander Adm. Brad Cooper said that during the 30 months prior to when Operation Epic Fury began, "Iran and its proxies had been attacking U.S. service members and diplomats about 350 times ... about every third day."

But Kent asserted in a post on X, "Iran’s proxies attacked our troops & diplomats under Biden, NOT under this Trump admin prior to Epic Fury, hence the 30 months time frame. When Trump returned to office in January of 2025 those attacks stopped."

The White House described how President Donald Trump had a "good meeting" with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Thursday, saying in its readout that the two sides discussed ways to "enhance economic cooperation," expand market access for American business into China and "increase Chinese investment into our industries."

"Leaders from many of the United States' largest companies joined a portion of the meeting," the White House noted. "The Presidents also highlighted the need to build on progress in ending the flow of fentanyl precursors into the United States, as well as increasing Chinese purchases of American agricultural products."

The White House said the U.S. and China agreed that Iran cannot obtain a nuclear weapon.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated that Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., prioritized the nation over partisanship on Wednesday by joining with Senate Republicans in voting to confirm President Donald Trump's nomination of Kevin Warsh to serve as Federal Reserve System Board of Governors chair.

Aside from Fetterman, the 54-45 vote was strictly along party lines, with Republicans voting for confirmation and Democrats voting against it.

"Today @SenateGOP, along with the Democrat who put country before political ideology, confirmed @POTUS's nominee Kevin Warsh as the next Chairman of the @FederalReserve," Bessent declared in a Wednesday post on X.

U.S. Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks told ӣ��Ƶ on Thursday he is resigning, effective immediately.

"It's just time," Banks told ӣ��Ƶ correspondent Bill Melugin.

"I feel like I got the ship back on course from the least secure, disastrous, chaotic border to the most secure border this country has ever seen," he said. "Time to pass the reigns, 37 years, it's time to enjoy the family and life."

Banks has previously detailed his upbringing in the small town of Warner Robins, Georgia. He said he was raised primarily by his grandmother, who was on a fixed income, as his single mother struggled to raise his two older half-sisters.

Banks enlisted in the military at 17 years old and served for a decade in both combat and peacetime, overseas and in the U.S., primarily in law enforcement roles.

After hearing stories from CBP agents, Banks applied to the agency in 2000.

He said he watched the situation deteriorate further before returning to lead the agency as chief under the second Trump administration.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) on Tuesday said that the consumer price index (CPI) – a broad measure of how much everyday goods like gasoline, groceries and rent cost – rose 0.6% "on a seasonally adjusted basis in April" and 3.8% "before seasonal adjustment" during a 12-month period. After a Pennsylvania Supreme Court justice appeared to indicate that he had ditched the Democratic Party, declaring in a statement that he is "no longer registered within any political party," U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., noted that he understood the man's decision.

Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice David Wecht, who ran as a Democrat when he was elected in 2015, indicated that the Democratic Party has an issue with antisemitism.

"From 1998 to 2001, years that preceded my judicial career, I served as Vice-Chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. In the quarter century that has passed since then, the Democratic Party has changed. Nazi tattoos, jihadist chants, intimidation and attacks at synagogues, and other hateful anti-Jewish invective and actions are minimized, ignored, and even coddled. Acquiescence to Jew-hatred is now disturbingly common among activists, leaders and even many elected officials in the Democratic Party," he asserted in part of his statement, which ӣ��Ƶ Digital obtained.

Passengers from hantavirus-linked ship may leave Nebraska under certain conditions, officials say

The cruise ship passengers being monitored for hantavirus in Nebraska will be allowed to leave the medical facility before the end of a 42-day period if certain conditions are met, a public health official indicated Monday.

The individuals will remain at the facility in Nebraska for at least a few days during assessments, said Brendan Jackson, acting director of the Division of High-Consequence Pathogens and Pathology at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases.

They will have the choice to stay in Nebraska all 42 days if they wish, but if they choose to return home, there will be several factors that play into the decision, such as whether "they remain symptom free," he said.

Health officials will also assess whether passengers can safely isolate at home, maintain contact with local health departments and quickly access testing or medical care if symptoms develop.

AMERICANS EXPOSED TO HANTAVIRUS ABOARD CRUISE SHIP LAND IN NEBRASKA

Only those who can meet those standards, and whose home states can coordinate monitoring, will be cleared to leave.

Still, officials emphasized that the final decision will ultimately involve the passengers themselves.

"Yes," Jackson said when asked if it would be their choice. "We want to do this in the least restrictive way possible… that protects the health and safety of both the passengers and their communities."

Jackson noted passengers can remain at the facility for the full monitoring period if needed.

Of the 18 individuals transported back to the U.S. after a hantavirus outbreak tied to a cruise ship, 16 are now in Nebraska, while two are in Atlanta.

Angela Hewlett, medical director of the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit, noted during the press conference that the individual in the biocontainment unit previously had an "equivocal positive test," which she noted was "not in the United States." The person was not experiencing any symptoms, she said.

One of the passengers transported to Atlanta was symptomatic, Matthew Ferreira of HHS noted.

The risk hantavirus poses to the general public is "very, very low," Adm. Brian Christine, assistant secretary for health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, said during the news conference.

"The Andes variant of this virus does not spread easily and it requires prolonged, close contact with someone who is already symptomatic," he explained.

Alabama's Republican Gov. Kay Ivey signed legislation Friday that would demand the governor call special primary elections for impacted U.S. House districts if the Supreme Court allows the state to utilize district lines its legislature approved in 2023 but has been blocked from using.

One of the American citizens evacuated from the MV Hondius cruise ship and flown back to the U.S. tested positive for hantavirus without symptoms, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and another person had mild symptoms.

Those two Americans traveled "in the plane's biocontainment units out of an abundance of caution," HHS noted in a Sunday night post on X.

Seventeen Americans and one dual U.S.-U.K citizen from the ship were flown to the U.S.

That dual national "is at the University of Nebraska Medical Center/Nebraska Medicine Regional Emerging Special Pathogen Treatment Center (RESPTC) in Omaha with 15 of the other repatriated passengers," HHS noted in the post.

The flight touched down in Nebraska early Monday morning. Three individuals died since the outbreak started.

"The passenger who is going to the Biocontainment Unit tested positive for the virus but does not have symptoms. HHS's post on Monday morning also noted, "Two passengers from the airlift, including one who traveled with mild symptoms in the plane's biocontainment unit, are now at Emory University's RESPTC in Atlanta."

"Andes virus is a type of hantavirus spread by rodents in South America and, less commonly, by other infected people. The rodents that carry Andes virus have not been found in the United States. Rep. Thomas Massie's campaign has raked in more than $1 million so far since launching a "Moneybomb" fundraiser on Monday morning, according to a running tally displayed on the fundraising website.

The embattled Republican, who represents Kentucky's 4th Congressional District, is competing in a GOP primary showdown against former Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein, the candidate backed by President Donald Trump, a vociferous Massie critic.

"This race has become a national referendum on whether our country is better served by congressmen like me who keep their promises or whether Congress needs yet another 'warm body from central casting' like Gallrein who pledges to be a rubber stamp for the uniparty," Massie wrote in a statement provided to ӣ��Ƶ Digital.

The U.S. and partners completed the removal of all remaining enriched uranium from a legacy research reactor in Venezuela, the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration announced on Friday.

"For decades, the RV-1 reactor supported physics and nuclear research. Once that work finished in 1991, its uranium, enriched above the crucial 20 percent threshold, became surplus material," the NNSA said.

The NNSA's Office of Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation (DNN) team and technical experts from the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research "safely removed 13.5 kilograms (about 30 pounds) of uranium from the RV-1 reactor," the administration said. "Working in close cooperation with the IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] throughout, the team securely packaged the uranium into a spent fuel cask."

"The vessel carried the material to the United States arriving on U.S. shores in early May. Upon arrival, U.S. teams unloaded the casks and transported them to the Savannah River Site (SRS) for processing and reuse."

The SRS is located in the state of South Carolina, near Augusta, Georgia.

The move comes months after President Donald Trump ordered the U.S. military operation capturing Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in early January.

The number of kindergarten through 12th grade public school students in the U.S. has declined in 30 states since the mid-2010s, The New York Times reported.

According to a list of enrollment changes by state from 2014 to 2024 that the outlet indicates was sourced from "National Center for Education Statistics," West Virginia saw the largest decline at -13.6%, with Mississippi next at -12%, and New Hampshire next at -11.1%.

Washington, D.C., which is not a U.S. state, saw the largest increase at +16.4%, according to the list, with North Dakota coming in next at +12.4%, then Idaho at +8.5%.

While multiple factors impact enrollment, according to the Times, the outlet claimed that experts indicate the largest factor in falling enrollment is the nation's record-low fertility rate.

Enrollment has fallen 9% since 2014 in Portland, Oregon, according to the Times.

Former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent asserted in a post on X that prior to the start of the Iran war, the U.S. intelligence community agreed that the Islamic Republic was not developing a nuclear weapon.

"One of the many tragedies of this war is that before the war began the U.S. Intel Community, including CIA, was in agreement that Iran wasn't developing a nuclear weapon & that Iran would target U.S. bases in the region & shut down the Strait of Hormuz if they were attacked by Israel & the U.S.," Kent wrote in a post on Thursday.

"The IC also properly assessed that targeting the Iranian leadership would strengthen the regime and embolden the hardliners. Despite the professionalism & accuracy of the IC, the narrative & agenda spun by a foreign government- Israel, won the argument & forced us into this war," he continued.

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., described protesters who demonstrated in New York City on Tuesday as "Pro-Hezbollah / Hamas s[---]heads," and indicated that the Democratic Party should speak out against them.

"Mob of Pro-Hezbollah / Hamas s[---]heads raging against law enforcement and terrorizing the NYC Jewish community near a synagogue and day care," Fetterman wrote in a Wednesday post on X.

Fetterman made the comments when sharing a post on X that featured video footage in which people could be heard engaging in what sounded like an anti-Zionist chant.

Trump admin targets nation's second-largest school district in investigation of sexual misconduct policies

The U.S. Department of Education announced that its Office for Civil Rights has launched a probe into the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) "for policies that appear to automatically reassign teachers accused of sexual misconduct with students... to another school."

"OCR will determine whether the District’s handling of alleged sexual harassment, including sexual assault, by District teachers, administrators, and/or staff violated Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX)," the department noted in a Tuesday press release.

But the school district pushed back in a statement provided to ӣ��Ƶ Digital.

LAUSD asserted that "commentary is circulating insinuating that the District assigns those being investigated for sexual misconduct to other school sites. This is not true. Confusion seems to center on the meaning of the term 'reassignment.'"

"'Reassignment' typically means an employee is directed to remain at home and away from students and schools during an investigation," a district spokesperson continued. "Decisions about reassignment are guided first and foremost by the safety of students, staff, and the workplace. After an investigation concludes, appropriate measures or discipline may be taken, including termination of employment if warranted."

"Los Angeles Unified takes all allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment with the utmost seriousness. Our primary responsibility is to ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of every student and staff member in our care," the district spokesperson said.

"The District follows established Title IX procedures and other applicable laws and regulations, which are designed to ensure a fair, thorough, and impartial process for all parties. When allegations are reported, they are promptly reviewed, and appropriate interim measures are implemented to protect those involved. If violations are substantiated, the District takes decisive action in accordance with the law and our policies," the statement noted.

"We also continuously review and strengthen our policies, training, and reporting systems to better prevent misconduct and support those who come forward. We encourage anyone with information or concerns to report them so they can be addressed appropriately," the district spokesperson said. "We understand the seriousness of allegations and the impact they have on our community. The District remains committed to transparency, accountability, and fostering a safe environment for all."

The U.S. Department of Education told ӣ��Ƶ Digital on Wednesday, "We are actively investigating this, and OCR will determine whether the policy is in violation of Title IX."

The department also referred ӣ��Ƶ Digital to its press release and to posts on X by Education Secretary Linda McMahon.

The department's press release pointed to a 2024 document involving LAUSD and the United Teachers of Los Angeles union.

FEDS OPEN PROBE INTO ANTI-ISRAEL NYC TEACHERS

"Upon reassignment of any UTLA member, they will be notified within 5 days of the general nature of the allegations against them. We will advise them that they are being reassigned for any of the following categories. Moreover, reassignment will only occur if the nature of the allegations fits one of these descriptions," the document declared, before going on to list categories such as "Sexual harassment of a student, employee, school-related adult, or other community member," "Engaging in a sexual or romantic relationship with a student regardless of their age, or with any other minors outside of LAUSD" and others.

In a statement obtained by ӣ��Ƶ Digital, United Teachers Los Angeles said, "As a union of educators, UTLA is committed to the safety and well-being of students. The Trump administration’s announcement that it is investigating LAUSD regarding reassigning staff accused of misconduct appears to be based on a fundamental misunderstanding of what "reassignment" entails under the policy.

"Employees accused of misconduct involving a student are reassigned to their homes while LAUSD and/or law enforcement conduct an investigation of the allegation. They are not reassigned to another classroom or to any other setting where they would interact with students. This policy protects both students and staff and creates conditions for a thorough and appropriate investigation of allegations," UTLA noted.

In a Tuesday post on X, McMahon wrote, "Any of the abhorrent actions listed here should result in termination or worse, but the LA teachers union appears to protect the employment of sexual predators over the safety of students, allowing alleged criminals to be reassigned to a different school. The Trump Administration will always fight to uphold the law, protect the safety of students, and restore common sense to our schools."

McMahon added in another post Wednesday, "Teachers unions are advocating to keep children out of schools for protests, using dues to prop up political agendas, and negotiating protections for child abusers. The unions are not fighting for students or teachers – they are fighting to protect their own power."

"It is unconscionable that the District would simply ignore Title IX’s procedural requirements to protect teachers who cause life-changing harm to their kids.
