Mississippi gov trolls Lane Kiffin, LSU after Ole Miss defeats Tigers in coach's return to Oxford

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves got the last word on Saturday night after Ole Miss defeated LSU in Lane Kiffin’s highly anticipated return to Oxford.

The Tigers climbed back into the game in the third quarter, scoring two touchdowns to bring the game to within three points. LSU tied the game with a field goal early in the fourth quarter. But Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss scored on a 14-yard run with 6:14 left. Ole Miss added a two-point conversion to go up eight points.

Ole Miss held on for the 32-24 victory.

Reeves added insult to injury with a post on X.

"What does a $54 million buyout for the old coach, a $91 million contract for the new coach, and a $50 million roster get you?" he wrote. "An a-s whipping in Oxford, Mississippi!"

The governor was referring to Kiffin’s departure from Ole Miss to LSU and the way the Tigers’ roster was constructed in the offseason.

It was a part of the trash talking that occurred throughout the week. Kiffin, himself, was met with middle fingers and boos when he stepped back into Vaught Hemingway Stadium.

"I’m glad it’s over. This was an emotional game for a lot of reasons," Kiffin said. "A lot of life-changing experiences here. A lot of really good people that helped me through some really hard times.

"Sometimes I don't act like it, but I'm a human, too. Congrats to those guys. They played really well. They deserved to win."

Chambliss said the win meant more than some of the other games he’s played in his collegiate career.

"It meant more than other games," he said. "I’m finally glad we got that one out of the way because emotions were really high for this game."

Ole Miss is expected to leapfrog LSU in the next AP poll. The Rebels came in ranked No. 8 in the country, while LSU was No. 7.

Trump says new arch will also deploy drones, position snipers and store ammo

President Donald Trump said Sunday that his planned triumphal arch near the Arlington Memorial Bridge will be converted into a military complex capable of housing drones, deploying snipers and storing ammunition.

"At the strong request of the United States Military, and for National Security purposes, I have agreed to convert the magnificent Triumphal Arch … into a top grade Military Complex/Triumphal Arch," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump said the 250-foot structure would have the "rapid ability" to deploy large numbers of drones, as well as snipers positioned on the roof and plaza areas. He also said the complex would store "large quantities of sniper ammunition."

"There will be no facility like this anywhere in the World," Trump wrote.

The monument, inspired by Paris’ Arc de Triomphe, is intended to welcome visitors crossing the Memorial Bridge from Arlington National Cemetery into the nation’s capital. The proposed structure would be clad in granite and topped with three golden statues.

The project has drawn criticism from preservationists, lawmakers and veterans, who argue that it could disrupt views of the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. Opponents have also questioned whether the project requires congressional approval under federal law.

The National Capital Planning Commission has approved the site and preliminary plans, but the project still requires additional review. Construction was previously expected to begin this month.

The arch is one of several major construction and renovation projects Trump has pursued in Washington.

The administration has also begun work on a 90,000-square-foot White House ballroom. The sprawling addition, announced last July, will accommodate approximately 650 seated guests and follow the White House’s classical design.

The White House currently lacks a formal ballroom, and the new structure is expected to replace the existing East Wing. Then-White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the ballroom is estimated to cost $200 million and will be financed by Trump and private donors.

The ballroom is not the only update.

Trump has introduced gold accents in the Oval Office and Cabinet Room, lined the "walk of fame" with portraits of former presidents, including a photo of the autopen representing former President Joe Biden’s time in office, added stone pavers to the Rose Garden lawn and installed two 88-foot flagpoles.

The White House did not immediately respond to ӣ��Ƶ Digital's request for additional comment.

UNITED NATIONS, NEW YORK: President Donald Trump will return to the United Nations this week seeking greater international cooperation in confronting Iran, even as his administration moves to reshape the global institution hosting world leaders, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Mike Waltz told ӣ��Ƶ Digital in an exclusive interview ahead of the gathering.

US presses allies to enforce Iran sanctions ahead of the UN General Assembly

With the U.S.-Iran war entering its seventh month, Trump is expected to address the General Assembly on Tuesday and meet Gulf leaders whose countries have been directly affected by the conflict.

The gathering comes as Washington seeks to intensify economic pressure on Tehran, European allies confront Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine and the administration faces questions about whether its push to reduce the U.N.'s size and spending risks diminishing the organization's ability to respond to international crises.

Waltz outlined what Washington expects from its partners on Iran: full enforcement of sanctions against Tehran, with consequences for countries that fail to comply.

"They will reinforce that message, but importantly, it's all of these countries actually enforcing the sanctions and what they're going to hear is there will be consequences for friend and foe," Waltz said. "The president is doing this for the future security of the world."

European and Asian allies have largely resisted Trump's requests for assistance in the Iran conflict, which began with U.S. and Israeli strikes in February, Reuters reported on on Sept. 18. The war has also disrupted energy markets, with Iran obstructing shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and its Houthi allies tightening their grip on a critical Red Sea shipping corridor.

Waltz said the administration intends to make sanctions enforcement a central part of its diplomatic push during UNGA.

"The Iranian economy continues to crater," Waltz said, pointing to the country's currency, inflation and the U.S. naval blockade. "One way or another, the president has been crystal clear on our goals here that Iran cannot and will not have a nuclear weapon."

His remarks follow a Sept. 17 U.N. Security Council vote in which Russia and China blocked an effort to continue independent monitoring of international sanctions on Iran.

Trump is also expected to meet Gulf leaders to discuss the conflict and regional security. Waltz said that the administration wants to hear directly from its Gulf partners about their concerns, describing the collective meeting as an important diplomatic opportunity.

A UN the Trump administration wants to change — but not abandon

The Iran conflict is unfolding against a broader debate over the future of the United Nations, an institution Trump has repeatedly criticized and his administration has sought to substantially reform.

On Sept. 16, the United States paid $725 million toward the U.N.'s regular budget and another $102 million for peacekeeping operations. The payments reduced Washington's outstanding debt and averted the immediate risk of losing its General Assembly voting rights in 2027. However, the U.S. still owed approximately $1.312 billion to the organization's regular budget, according to the U.N.

Asked why American taxpayers should continue funding an organization the administration has repeatedly criticized for what it considers anti-American bias, Waltz pointed to efforts to reduce spending and redirect the institution toward its original mission.

"The president is clear about getting the U.N. back to basics and helping it realize its potential," Waltz told ӣ��Ƶ Digital.

He said the administration had secured more than $1 billion in budget reductions, with roughly 3,000 headquarters positions being cut and a reduction of approximately 25% in peacekeeping personnel.

"We have the U.N. on a diet," Waltz said.

But Waltz also made clear that the administration does not intend to abandon the United Nations.

"There's got to be one place in the world where everyone can come together and put diplomacy first and can actually talk," he said. "We don't ever want to see a U.N. in Beijing or Moscow or Brussels."

"If we just walked away, you'd have 192 countries talking without us," Waltz added.

Gaza offers one example of how the administration intends to use the U.N. while limiting direct American military involvement. Waltz pointed to the U.N.-endorsed Board of Peace and the planned International Stabilization Force, which is intended to support security and a postwar transition in Gaza. The ambassador said he does not want American troops deployed there, arguing that international security operations should allow other countries to share the burden. The U.N. Security Council endorsed the Gaza peace plan and authorized the stabilization force in November 2025.

The State Department said Sept. 18 that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will be in New York from Sept. 20–23 to meet foreign counterparts, advance U.S. security and economic priorities and continue the administration's campaign for U.N. reform.

Greenland agreement adds another dimension to allied diplomacy

Trump arrives in New York days after announcing a new security agreement with Denmark and Greenland aimed at expanding the American military presence in the Arctic while restricting adversaries from establishing bases or making sensitive investments on the island.

The agreement falls short of Trump's earlier ambition to acquire Greenland, which remains an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. Denmark and Greenland have stressed that the arrangement will not compromise the island's sovereignty or right to self-determination. Additional details of the agreement have yet to be made public.

Waltz told ӣ��Ƶ Digital that the deal reflects the Arctic's growing strategic importance as melting ice opens new shipping routes and increases access to energy and mineral resources.

"It's incredibly significant," Waltz said, pointing to Russia's Arctic military capabilities and the potential for new shipping routes to transform global trade.

"It took some tough tweets, maybe some tough language," he said. "We now have an agreement with our ally Denmark."

The agreement comes as European governments confront overlapping security challenges involving Russia's war in Ukraine, Arctic defense and uncertainty over transatlantic security arrangements, while Washington seeks greater allied cooperation in its campaign against Iran.

World leaders converge on New York

The U.N. expects 73 heads of state and 45 heads of government, along with 49 ministers, 11 vice presidents and one crown prince, to attend High-Level Week, U.N. spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric told reporters Friday.

Member states have submitted approximately 1,000 requests for bilateral meetings, while about 168 events are scheduled alongside the official proceedings.

The 81st General Assembly's General Debate begins Tuesday and runs through Sept. 28.

Beyond Iran, world leaders are expected to address Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the future of Gaza, international security and the U.N.'s ability to respond to emerging global challenges.

Waltz described the administration's approach with a slogan inspired by the president's political branding: "Make the U.N. great again."

But the immediate diplomatic questions facing Washington are more concrete: whether allies will increase pressure on Iran, whether Gulf leaders can agree on a path toward ending the conflict and whether the administration's push for a leaner U.N. can coexist with its efforts to use the organization to address international security challenges.

Electric Mercedes motorhome targets 621-mile range

If you think you've seen some wild RVs, this one may reset the scale. Professional truck driver and content creator Tobias Wagner, better known online as Elektrotrucker, is preparing to drive around the world in a specially converted Mercedes-Benz eActros 600. A full Bliss Mobil living module sits behind the cab, turning this electric truck into a rolling home. Wagner plans to make the entire journey on battery power.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks says the route will cover about 28,000 miles through more than 30 countries over roughly one year, with a goal of no more than 80 charging stops. According to Mercedes, the trip would be the first known circumnavigation of the globe in a fully battery-electric truck. What really caught my attention is how far Wagner hopes to go between those stops. Here's how this massive electric motorhome works and why its 621-mile range target could be the toughest part of the trip.

This electric Mercedes motorhome started as a long-haul truck

Underneath the living quarters sits the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600, a battery-electric truck built for long-distance commercial freight. Its three lithium iron phosphate battery packs provide a combined installed capacity of 621 kWh. Mercedes normally designs the truck to travel about 310 miles under specific fully loaded long-haul test conditions.

Wagner's expedition truck has a very different job. Instead of pulling a heavily loaded commercial trailer, it carries a custom living module. Mercedes also modified the truck with single rear tires and expedition equipment. Those changes help reduce weight and rolling resistance compared with a traditional freight configuration.

The finished expedition vehicle reportedly has a maximum weight of about 34,170 pounds. Power comes from Mercedes' electric axle and four-speed transmission. The eActros 600 produces about 536 horsepower continuously, with peak output reaching roughly 805 horsepower. That's a lot of muscle for a vehicle carrying its own kitchen and bed.

Could it really travel 621 miles on one charge?

This is where the project gets especially interesting. Wagner and Mercedes believe the lighter expedition setup, combined with careful hypermiling, could potentially travel as far as 621 miles on a single charge. That would be roughly double the range Mercedes quotes for a fully loaded eActros 600. Mercedes says the lighter expedition vehicle should significantly exceed the eActros 600's normal long-haul range. How close he gets will depend on road conditions, temperature, speed and terrain.

Why the 621-mile target could become important

Wagner wants to travel about 28,000 miles while stopping to charge no more than 80 times. That works out to an average of roughly 350 miles of driving per charging stop, although the actual distances will vary considerably along the route. Some stretches could become much more challenging.

The expedition will cross regions where high-powered truck charging remains difficult to find. The latest route includes Central and East Asia, Australia, the United States and several countries in Latin America. That's where stretching the truck well beyond its normal freight range could become useful.

Charging a 621-kWh battery takes serious power

Eventually, even this giant battery has to plug in. The eActros 600 supports CCS2 fast charging at up to 400 kW. Mercedes says that level of charging can take the battery from 10% to 80% in about 70 minutes under its specified conditions. Mercedes has also demonstrated Megawatt Charging System technology at up to 1,000 kW, which can cut charging times dramatically on compatible equipment.

Wagner's expedition setup has also been prepared for different charging systems around the world. It includes charging connections positioned on both sides of the truck. The project also has adapters designed for charging infrastructure in China and North America. That flexibility could prove essential once the truck leaves Europe. Mercedes revealed another important backup. Wagner has equipped the truck with his own Alpitronic DC charging station. That lets him charge from AC connections at up to 43 kW in special situations when conventional high-powered truck charging is not available.

The back of the truck is a fully electric home

Bliss Mobil added a roughly 13-foot expedition module behind the cab. Inside, Wagner gets a U-shaped dining area along with a kitchen. A bathroom sits toward the rear. There's also a drop-down bed that stores above the dining area when he wants more room during the day. The camper can sleep as many as four people. Wagner will have considerably more room because his primary travel companion is his dog, Krümelix.

The living module also follows the electric theme. It uses a separate 400-Ah lithium battery supported by 1,000 watts of solar power. That system handles equipment such as the induction cooktop, refrigerator and air conditioning. It also powers other onboard systems without relying on diesel or propane. The motorhome reportedly carries about 106 gallons of fresh water. A multistage filtration system helps Wagner manage water during extended stretches away from traditional campgrounds.

The camper can operate separately from the truck

Bliss Mobil designed the expedition module as a largely self-contained unit. Its electrical and plumbing systems sit within the camper rather than depending on the truck itself. That approach allows Bliss Mobil modules to move between compatible truck chassis.

Wagner's module does have a 24-volt connection to the eActros. That means the living area can draw energy from the truck's main battery when necessary. Still, the expedition has an obvious reason to conserve that electricity. Every bit of power used inside the camper could otherwise help move a nearly 17-ton vehicle farther down the road.

There's an electric motorcycle riding on the back

A giant expedition truck can handle plenty of roads, but there will always be places where its size becomes a problem. Wagner has another electric solution for that. A motorcycle carrier on the back holds a Honda WN7 electric motorcycle. When the road becomes too tight for the eActros, Wagner can leave the motorhome behind and continue on two wheels. The motorcycle uses a 9.3-kWh battery and produces about 67 horsepower. It's a useful backup for a trip designed to reach places far beyond normal highway rest stops.

Nearly $800,000 buys one very unusual motorhome

None of this comes cheaply. A price sheet displayed with the vehicle broke down the cost of the eActros 600 truck, Bliss Mobil camper and additional equipment. The total is approximately $796,600 including tax based on the exchange rate used at the time. Call it nearly $800,000. The Honda electric motorcycle wasn't included in that figure.

Of course, this also isn't a production RV you can configure at your local Mercedes dealership. Wagner's vehicle is a specialized one-off expedition build created around a commercial electric truck. We've seen other companies rethink how electric vehicles fit into camping. The CyberTrailer takes a different approach, using solar power and an onboard energy system to support off-grid travel.

The around-the-world trip starts Sept. 20

Mercedes-Benz Trucks says Wagner will officially depart from IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover, Germany, on Sunday, Sept. 20. From there, the trip is expected to last about a year. Mercedes says Wagner will travel through around 30 countries on five continents while putting battery-electric truck technology through real-world conditions well beyond familiar European freight routes. Mercedes says the planned route may still change as the trip progresses. The vehicle may be built for an extraordinary adventure, but the results could tell us something much bigger about electric transportation.

What this means to you

You probably won't be putting an $800,000 electric expedition truck in your driveway. Still, this trip could answer questions that eventually affect far more ordinary electric vehicles. Range is only part of the EV equation. Reliable charging becomes even more important when you leave major highways or travel through areas with limited infrastructure. Wagner will be testing both. If the eActros can consistently travel well beyond its standard commercial range, engineers will get another example of how vehicle weight and driving technique can change battery performance.

The charging side may prove equally revealing. A vehicle can carry an enormous battery, but long-distance travel still depends on finding equipment powerful enough to recharge it. Wagner's onboard charging equipment gives him another option when high-powered public chargers are unavailable, but slower charging could add considerable time to the trip.

We have already seen experiments that attack the charging problem from another direction. One electric road project is testing technology that can transfer power to vehicles while they drive. Wagner's trip takes the opposite approach. He is bringing a huge battery and finding out how far today's infrastructure can take it.

I love a good road trip, but this one takes the idea to another level. What fascinates me most isn't simply whether Wagner can squeeze 621 miles out of this massive battery. I want to see what happens when he leaves the easy charging routes behind and has to make this technology work across more than 30 countries. That's where this trip could get really interesting. A giant battery and impressive range numbers are great, but you still need a working charger when you pull in. If Wagner can circle the globe with roughly 80 charging stops, that's a pretty strong demonstration of how far electric trucking has come. And if he gets stranded looking for power along the way, we'll learn something from that, too.

Comedian Tim Dillon slams Sydney Sweeney critics upset with steamy ad: 'How insane is that? '

Comedian Tim Dillon went on a fiery rant in defense of actress Sydney Sweeney, who came under fire for a nearly nude advertisement for the sports prediction market company Novig.

Sweeney heard it from female athletes who said they didn’t want to be hyper-sexualized. She was seen in the ad posing in several shots with strategically placed sports equipment covering her mostly nude body.

"It's nice to look at. What are these female athletes upset about?" Dillon said on his podcast. "What is Sydney Sweeney going to do? You want her to gain weight and be some fat rugby player? She's taking her t--s out and you should be happy about it."

Several female athletes didn’t appear to take too kindly to the ad. Australian Olympic gold medalist swimmer Ariarne Titmus, British sprinter Amy Hunt and former American gymnast Gracie Kramer were among those to denounce the ad.

Dillon took Australian surfer Felicity Palmateer to task after she told CNN that the campaign was "very damaging, especially for young females getting into sport, for females in sport, for females in general, just hypersexualized content."

"No one is valuing female athletes for what they look like," Dillon said.

He continued, "Female athletes are great and we love them and we respect them and they're important, but no one thinks because Sydney Sweeney, a hot actress, put her t--s with a football, that everyone is sexualizing female athletes now.

"No one's sexualizing you. How insane is that? Sydney Sweeney's hot is part of her appeal. She's also a very good actress, but she's hot. That's part of why they do an ad with her and they know it gets controversy."

Dillon predicted that more companies would look to do ads with Sweeney now because of the uproar over every little thing the actress does.

Sweeney did ads for Guess, which had people in a tizzy because of the "good jeans" tagline.

"By the way, Sydney Sweeney's going to be the hottest commodity for a corporate company now because you know that you can get a controversial ad with Sydney Sweeney for almost anything. You know what I mean?" he said. "You just put Sydney Sweeney's tits in something and because she has blonde hair and she's quote whatever MAGA-coded or whatever, people are just going to lose their minds and it becomes this cultural firestorm."

Sweeney seemingly shot back at the criticism last week. She went on to show off ESPN magazine covers featuring nude athletes, including Serena Williams, Ronda Rousey, Sue Bird, Megan Rapinoe and Caroline Wozniacki.

OutKick’s Craig Carton also fired off a defense during "The Craig Carton Show" earlier in the week.

"The world’s going crazy when it comes to the photographs of Sydney Sweeney. ‘Oh, we’re sexualizing women. It’s not right. It’s setting the women’s movement back 100 years.’ No, you’re just ugly. That’s what that is."

Carton asserted that the same ones who were upset about the Sweeney spot also thought Lindsay Clancy was a "hero."

"I’m gonna separate people into two groups, OK? There’s going to be here on the left side, crazy people. We’re gonna call you ‘crazy.’ On the other side, I’m just gonna refer to you as not crazy," he said.

"Consider for a moment that the non-crazy side loves those pictures of Sydney Sweeney. The crazy side would rather support, I don’t know, Lindsay Clancy. She’s a hero to the crazy side. I saw one of those gals come out this morning legitimately refer to her as heroic. She killed her three children. She killed her own children. But for the crazies, ‘Man, she gets it. She represents us.’ For the non-crazies, she belongs in prison for the rest of her life.

Police officer, woman shot near Notre Dame after football tailgates

A single gunshot during a post-tailgate fight near Notre Dame's South Bend, Indiana campus struck a woman and a police officer Saturday night, authorities said.

The initial violence erupted around 7:30 p.m. ET just as crowds were leaving the university's tailgating areas and heading toward Eddy Street Commons. According to South Bend authorities, Notre Dame Police told them a male suspect was seen armed and reportedly pointing a gun at people, but when South Bend Police found a suspect matching their description, the person was unarmed.

"As approximately 20 South Bend Police Officers were working in Eddy Street Commons and responding to that call, a single gunshot was heard near Eddy Street and Angela Boulevard," South Bend Police said in a Facebook post.

The post said officers soon found a woman with a non-life-threatening leg wound, and a South Bend Police officer with an injury from either a ricochet or shrapnel.

The suspect reportedly remains at large. and was described as a heavyset Black male with dreadlocks, wearing blue shorts, a black shirt with a red and blue design on the front, and missing one shoe, according to the local report.

One specific soundbite he delivered after his return to Ole Miss went the wrong way for him and his LSU Tigers perfectly encapsulates that.

The Week 3 matchup between LSU and Ole Miss delivered in every way imaginable, which isn't often the case in such highly anticipated events. From the build-up of Kiffin stepping back on the field he coached on for six seasons, to the atmosphere inside the stadium, and to the game itself, it was the epitome of college football.

The Rebels jumped out to a commanding 24-7 lead in the first half before the Tigers scored 17 unanswered points to knot things up and set the scene for a fourth quarter that could only be described as pure cinema.

Beloved Mexican food disappearing from restaurant menus across America

The tamale was once a familiar presence on Mexican restaurant menus in the United States, sharing space with tacos, burritos and enchiladas. Increasingly, though, diners looking for one may have to search.

Tamale entrées have dropped 7.8% from menus over the past five years, according to Technomic's Ignite Menu data comparing the second quarters of 2021 and 2026.

One reason may be a basic restaurant calculation: Tamales require considerable labor for something diners expect to be relatively inexpensive.

Robert Mahon, director of operations for Mahon Hospitality Group, runs Amor Loco and Toro Loco in New York City, neither of which serves tamales. Mahon enjoys tamales himself and said his restaurants have discussed offering them, but the economics can be difficult.

"Even though the ingredients might not be so costly, it's more the labor," Mahon told ӣ��Ƶ Digital. "It's so labor-intensive."

That labor becomes apparent at Taquería Picoso in Alexandria, Virginia, where executive chef Elio Gomez keeps tamales on the menu.

Gomez said his process takes about three days. His restaurant sources corn from Mexico, then cooks it through an overnight nixtamalization process. The corn is ground into masa, while fillings and banana leaves are prepared separately. The masa must then be mixed with fat, broth and salt and aerated to achieve the right consistency before the tamales can be assembled, carefully wrapped and cooked.

Training someone to do all that takes time, too. Gomez said he spent months working alongside the employee who now makes his tamales.

Even with a recipe, Gomez said, a cook must learn how the masa should feel and how to wrap each tamale properly, so it doesn't dry out during cooking.

All that work goes into an item that still doesn't generate taco-level demand.

"No, definitely it's not the same demand as a taco, for example," Gomez said.

Mahon said his customers aren't clamoring for tamales either.

"They're not walking out of our restaurants if they don't have a tamale," Mahon said. "It's not expected as a staple anymore."

Price presents another complication. Gomez charges $6 for a tamale, a price he considers inexpensive given the work involved. But some customers remember much cheaper versions.

Yet the tamale's declining presence on restaurant menus doesn't necessarily mean the food itself is disappearing.

Gomez, who grew up in Mexico City, remembers tamales as an everyday breakfast food sold by street vendors in the morning. In the United States, he sees them being treated more as a special food associated with holidays and family gatherings.

Hamas allegedly built weapons depots across Europe, planned terror attacks as Oct 7 anniversary neared

The German federal prosecutor’s office recently announced that it indicted seven people for allegedly securing weapons for the Hamas terrorist organization, with the goal of launching terrorist attacks on the second remembrance date of the Oct. 7 massacre in Israel.

The indictment has catapulted the danger of Hamas’ network in Europe to Israeli, American and European installations and citizens into the spotlight.

According to the prosecutor’s office, "All of the accused belong to the foreign terrorist organization Hamas. Some time ago, the organization’s military wing (the so-called Qassam Brigades) began establishing weapons depots in Europe. No later than July 2025, Hamas planned a concrete assassination in Germany or Austria targeting representatives of Israel, people of Jewish faith, or persons with pro-Israel views." The seven suspects were arrested between Oct. 2025 and May 2026.

The statement added, "The attack was to take place in close temporal proximity to the second anniversary of Hamas’s assault on Israel on 7 October 2023 — i.e., in early October 2025."

The indictment listed the nationalities and first names and first letter of the last name of the suspects: German national Abed Al G., Danish national Yousif C., Lebanon-born Borhan El-K., Lebanon-born Wael F.M., German national Ahmad I., Lebanon-born Kamel M., Bulgarian national Mohammad S."

German law shields the last names of criminal suspects for privacy reasons.

The German prosecutors said the suspected Hamas terrorists "had already obtained a functional fully automatic rifle, 13 functional pistols and more than 700 rounds of ammunition. Mohammed A., who is being prosecuted separately, transported some of the weapons to Vienna and stored them there."

According to the German paper Die Welt, "One of the accused was working as a confidential informant for Germany’s domestic intelligence agency. The files show that the informant continued reporting to his intelligence handler while allegedly failing to disclose the full extent of his own involvement in obtaining ammunition for the group."

Sascha Adamek, a German journalist and the author of the 2026 book "Infiltration: Political Islam Continues Its Advance" told ӣ��Ƶ Digital that "Now the policy of previous federal governments is coming back to haunt them: until 2023 they allowed Hamas and its front organizations to use Germany as a ‘safe haven’ for fundraising and recruitment and also for the radicalization of young people. This dirty deal — that Hamas does not use violence in this country and is therefore left to operate freely — has long been obsolete."

According to the most recent Federal German domestic intelligence report, Hamas could have had as many as 650 operatives in Germany during 2025, the last year of tracking. In 2024, 550 Hamas operatives were active and in 2023 the number totaled 450. The intelligence officials wrote in the report that "The figures refer to Germany and are partly estimated and rounded." According to the report, 1,250 Hezbollah operatives are active in Germany.

UN AGENCY ACCUSED OF HAMAS TIES SEES ANOTHER EUROPEAN NATION CUT FUNDING

When asked why Germany is allowing Hamas and Hezbollah operatives and members to conduct activities within its territory, the press office of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior told ӣ��Ƶ Digital in part, that, "Hamas, which has been banned from operating in Germany since 2023, has a network of supporters and followers; however, for many years they have tended to act with restraint in public and avoid any outward signs of connection to the organization."

The Interior Ministry’s press office added that "Hezbollah, which is also subject to a ban on its activities in Germany, is not organized under any nationwide umbrella organization or similar supraregional structure. Rather, its supporters are spread across various associations throughout Germany. The focus of the activities of these associations — which are classified as affiliated with Hezbollah —lies in the religious and cultural spheres, as well as in educational programs for children, youth and adults that promote conservative Islam and a Shi’ite identity. In isolated cases, Hezbollah supporters in Germany have been known to engage in specific acts of support for the organization in Lebanon."

When asked if the German government is lax, as critics argue, about eradicating Hamas and Hezbollah terrorism structures, the Interior Ministry said, "On November 2, 2023, the Federal Ministry of the Interior banned the activities of the terrorist organization Hamas in Germany, as these activities violate German criminal law and run counter to the principle of international understanding… Furthermore, its purpose or activities significantly harm the interests of the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition, the Federal Ministry of the Interior had already banned the activities of Hezbollah in Germany on April 30, 2020, as these activities also violate German criminal law and the organization is directed against the principle of international understanding."

The interior ministry noted that "Federal and state security authorities consistently investigate leads regarding possible extremist activities as well as acts subject to criminal prosecution and continuously examine all countermeasures available under the rule of law."

The statement also said, "The Hamas terrorist attack on the State of Israel on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent military operation by Israeli defense forces in the Gaza Strip continue to have an impact on the security situation in Germany and Europe. In addition to the heightened abstract threat level, there continue to be intense pro-Palestinian protests as well as corresponding agitation on social media. Various extremist actors in Germany are inciting hatred and violence against Jews or the State of Israel, or denying its right to exist."

GERMAN OFFICIALS WARN ISLAMIST, FAR-LEFT RHETORIC DRIVING SPIKE IN ANTISEMITIC ATTACKS

The presence of indicted Lebanese men highlights the alliance between the two U.S-designated terrorist organizations, Hamas and the Lebanon-based Hezbollah.

The Iranian regime-backed Hezbollah joined Hamas a day after the Gaza-based terrorist movement invaded Israel in 2023 and slaughtered over 1,200 people.

Germany's Die Welt reported, "The prosecutors alleged the weapons operation was also coordinated from Lebanon, where a Hamas operative allegedly oversaw one of the procurement channels linking members of the network across Europe."

Israel’s Foreign Ministry seized on the report about the planned Hamas terror attacks in Germany and Austria, posting on X:" Palestinian Hamas was planning terror on the streets of Europe. German prosecutors say Hamas plotted attacks in Berlin and Vienna targeting Jewish communities and Israeli diplomats - part of a network allegedly using Turkey as a base for terror operations against European targets. The goal: mark October 7 with more blood."

Matthew Levitt, a leading scholar on Hezbollah and Hamas in Europe from the Washington Institute, told ӣ��Ƶ Digital that "I wrote the only long form, detailed expose on this a while back now in CTC Sentinel [Combating Terrorism Center}, based on court documents and extensive interviews." He added, "Hamas continues plotting in Europe, overseen by senior Qassam Brigades officials in Lebanon and with direct ties to senior Hamas leadership. One of the people arrested in Europe is the son of a senior Hamas leader, Basem Naim."

Levitt published his article titled "Hamas Plots in Europe: A Shift Toward External Operations?" in the Oct. 2025 issue of the West Point journal CTC.

Levitt cited a 2024 German prosecution indictment of alleged Hezbollah terrorists planning possible attacks against an American military base and Israel's embassy. Levitt wrote "The weapons, German officials concluded, ‘were intended to expand Hamas’ activities in Europe. ‘As the investigation progressed, German authorities determined — based on materials found on one of the defendants’ USB storage devices — that the Hamas operatives were considering specific targets in Germany, including the Israeli embassy in Berlin, the U.S. Ramstein Air Base in Rhineland-Palatinate and the area around Berlin’s Tempelhof airport."

Israel’s Ambassador to Germany, Ron Prosor, warned that Hamas remains a serious security threat. He told the German media outlet, Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND), that "Germany has gone from being a retreat for Hamas to an active terrorist target." He stressed Hamas’ ideology and terrorism affects "all of us" and a coordinated response is required.

Screencaps Jr. cross country update: Mud

This was the scene Saturday across the street from the Temple-Toledo game. Screencaps Jr.'s team ran in a big invitational that's held on the grounds of Ottawa Park golf course. Let's just say the grounds crew has its work cut out to bring parts of the course back. This specific part of the course cuts across the 9th fairway.

This is just one of many parts of the course that were absolutely torn up, including an area just off the 1st green where a couple of thousand runners turned areas into mud pits.

Jr. ran a 12:08.63, good for 4th place, which, in these conditions, seems like a huge victory considering the conditions. During the girls' junior high race, multiple parents walked the course trying to find shoes that were stuck in the mud. Girls were finishing the race missing both shoes.

As for the team, the boys roll on. They took home 1st, 3rd, 4th, 8th, 9th and 10th place out of 207 runners. Final team score: 25 points.

Worst stretches of highways in the U.S. for potholes and general destruction

• Scott K. keeps this short and sweet: I-70 St. Louis to Columbia-pathetic.

• Spike emails: I cannot speak of the roads in the west or north but in the south and east….South Carolina’s are horrible. In driving from south Florida into Georgia on I-95 I didn’t even notice the roads until we entered South Carolina. Not only did the number of lanes get reduced when crossing into SC, they were in horrible condition. Whether you are going north or south…you will have to slow down to a crawl, especially on holiday weekends. Ask anyone trying to get to and from NY, NJ, etc to Florida how bad it is going through SC.

The disparity in road quality was even more noticeable when we took highway 26 north out of Spartanburg, SC into North Carolina. The moment we entered NC (big sign welcoming you ) the highway was newly paved, widens into additional lanes, and there were flower planters and trees to beautify the roadside and median. It was actually pretty funny how different it was. I half expected to hear angels singing.

One point in SC favor….the gas prices were the cheapest amongst all the states I mentioned. I am assuming they are not taxing the gas as much and thus have less money available for road improvements. So, a trade off.

Buffalo

• Steve B. in Grand Junction, who wrote a Hallmark Christmas movie, checks in: Great report from Buffalo. Felt like I was there. Can't believe there was over an hour wait for a beer. Sounds like the Pegulas are leaving a lot of money off the table by not having a few more taps.

Did you see any tables body slammed?

Kinsey: We didn't see any bodies getting slammed through tables. You have to wait until later in the day to see that stuff. Since we had early access to the stadium, our plan was to get in and get positioned to document the scene inside. I already called my dad to say we have to get up there for a game so he can see tables get smashed. Next time.

As for the beer line, it was for the beer horn. I actually felt bad for the beer guys carrying full trays of beers that people wouldn't bother buying because they wanted those horns. BTW, one beer guy I talked to said his sales were pretty low because so many people want a seltzer.

Should Eric P. in the PnW join a country club?

• Steven in SW Washington says: Hey Joe, I’m responding to Eric P. in PnW regarding joining a country club (CC). I’ve been a member of a CC for decades in Washington state as well and I know which course he is referring to that the Senior tour plays each year.

He needs to run away from this deal for a number of reasons: 1) 25 miles away. He is not going to jump off his couch to go practice or grab a bite. Then, after awhile, just going to play a round of golf will feel like a necessary chore to justify the CC bill he is getting each month. 2) The fact that they are offering that kind of deal with two years to pay off…. free dues for a year…. a food credit…. they NEED you more than want you. 3) After the free dues wear off, you’ll be sitting watching your beloved Seahawks playing in 40 degrees and rain in December or January and that CC bill will come and you’ll feel like crap because you are not using it. Finally, if the breakeven math is playing 10-12 times a month, it is a hard no. I tell friends that are considering joining a club that the math should be 4-6 times a month. That includes all members of the family playing.

There are tons of members at our Club that don’t play that much golf but they have tons of cash to burn, so much that the breakeven math is never a consideration.

• Mike T. in Idaho shocked me by revealing he used to be a country club guy: I have joined two Country Clubs during my golf career, I’m now retired. They both had several advantages I enjoyed! The ability to get a Tee time that worked for me was great. The pride people took in the course itself was nice, no chewed up fairways or greens.

However, I did find several issues that caused me to not be a part of the CC life majority of my golf career I did get bored playing the same course time after time, you knew what shot to hit on every hole.

The clubs I played had very strict guidelines on guests? So my crew couldn’t play with me very often, that sucked. Lastly, the men’s club loved to gamble on every match. I’m not much of a gambler so I didn’t enjoy that. The men’s club strictly played rules golf and I’m not that serious.

The advantages are there, but so are the drawbacks. I’d see if you can get a one year membership and try it out and see if it’s a fit for you.

El-Sayed’s Senate bid raises new concerns over a powerful privilege that comes with the job

Conservatives who spoke with ӣ��Ƶ Digital are raising concerns about what could happen if Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed wins his election and, by virtue of holding office, becomes eligible to receive certain classified information.

Unlike congressional staffers and many executive-branch officials, senators are not required to obtain a formal executive-branch security clearance to be eligible for classified information related to their official duties. If El-Sayed wins in November, he would not have to go through the same formal security-clearance process as many other government officials because members of Congress are generally considered eligible for access to classified information by virtue of holding elected office.

Those issues have raised concerns among some national security and policy experts.

COUNTERTERRORISM EXPERT WARNS ABDUL EL-SAYED SENATE BID RAISES HOMELAND SECURITY CONCERNS

"Anyone refusing to disavow America-hater Hasan Piker should never be elected to Congress. El-Sayed will use his perch in the Senate to undermine America and empower its enemies," Daniel Samet, a research fellow specializing in Middle East policy at the center-right American Enterprise Institute, told ӣ��Ƶ Digital.

Samet argued that El-Sayed has associated with people who support the intifada and terrorist causes and that he has shown sympathy for radical Islamist ideology.

ӣ��Ƶ Digital and other outlets have reported on El-Sayed’s appearances and political relationships with individuals who have expressed support for or made favorable statements about U.S.-designated terrorist organizations.

In April, for instance, El-Sayed was introduced at a campaign rally by Amir Makled, a man who previously celebrated dead members of the terrorist organization Hezbollah as "martyr[s]." A few months later, at a mosque opening, El-Sayed shared a stage with Sheikh Fadhel al-Sahlani, a cleric who has previously praised Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack and made remarks minimizing the number of Jews killed in the Holocaust.

EL-SAYED’S ISNA APPEARANCE DRAWS SCRUTINY OVER CONTROVERSIAL SPEAKERS

He also accepted an endorsement from Osama Siblani, who has praised both Hamas and Hezbollah.

Critics have also pointed to El-Sayed’s relationship with Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, who once said that America "deserved 9/11." El-Sayed has since called that statement "dumb," and distanced himself from Piker, though stopped short of totally disavowing him.

"Abdul’s running to keep Americans safe and bring down costs for Michigan families. Mike Rogers spent his entire career selling out Michigan, and has directly profited off shady business dealings with foreign companies," campaign spokesperson Cole Wozniak told ӣ��Ƶ Digital.

"Rogers made hundreds of thousands of dollars working for companies that partnered with Chinese firms posing ‘national security threats’ to the US, and worked for a Saudi-linked company that pushed for regulations that could have ‘enabled Saudi Arabia to develop nuclear weapons.’ Mike Rogers got rich selling out Michiganders and he can’t be trusted to keep us safe," the statement continued.

On China, the El-Sayed spokesperson was apparently referencing Rogers’ work in the telecommunications industry at companies that had business dealings involving Huawei. While serving in the House, Rogers was a vocal critic of Huawei. The Saudi Arabia jab was a reference to Rogers' work with a Saudi-linked company that drew criticism over its efforts to transfer nuclear energy technology to the Middle Eastern kingdom.

The Rogers campaign did not respond to a request for comment when reached by ӣ��Ƶ Digital on Thursday.

Beyond El-Sayed’s professional relationships, critics have also pointed to statements and past employment involving members of his family.

"His affiliation with communists like Hasan Piker who claimed America deserved 9/11 combined with repeated calls to abolish ICE compound these concerns. Senators handle sensitive intelligence with major national security implications; Giving someone like El-Sayed access would put American lives at risk," Heritage Action government relations director Chip Wyatt, who previously served as a mid-level staffer to Sen. Mike Lee, told ӣ��Ƶ Digital.

The Senate hopeful’s half-sister has also been criticized over an "October 7th blessing" she posted on the first anniversary of the 2023 Hamas attack. El-Sayed previously told ӣ��Ƶ Digital that, while he loves his sister, the two have disagreements as it relates to foreign policy. His campaign has also stressed that no one speaks for El-Sayed except for the man himself.

Some have suggested that, with the crop of Democratic Socialists of America affiliated candidates making runs for office in 2026, the alleged problem could be much bigger than just El-Sayed.

"I think it's a huge issue, and I don't think it stops at just him," America First Works president Ashley Hayek told ӣ��Ƶ Digital. "You have to look at all the candidates that are being adored by groups like the DSA, the Working Families Party, UnidosUS, the Party for Socialism and Liberation — they're all tied together. A lot of these groups are also funded by Neville Singham."

A 2023 New York Times investigation identified Singham as a major funder within a network of U.S. activist organizations that the newspaper reported had connections to pro-Beijing messaging.

Concerns that a senator could leak information they’re not supposed to are not merely hypothetical, according to Bryce Poole, a senior legal fellow at Advancing American Freedom, a think tank affiliated with former Vice President Mike Pence.

"It was not that long ago, it was 2024, when Robert Menendez was prosecuted and convicted for being a foreign agent of Egypt essentially and in 2025 I believe he was sentenced to 11 years," Poole, who specializes in national security law, told ӣ��Ƶ Digital. "Now, if I recall correctly none of this stuff that he actually shared with the Egyptians was alleged to have been classified, but it was still non-public information that was sensitive information that he only had access to by virtue of his office as a senator. So it's not that this is just a hypothetical problem."

Sorority rush gets Ozempic makeover as some college women resort to weight-loss injections

As GLP-1 medications continue to surge in popularity for weight loss and diabetes treatment, their use is rising among younger adults — with anecdotal reports suggesting the trend is making its way onto college campuses.

Market research has shown that GLP-1s – including semaglutide (Ozempic and Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro and Zepbound) – are growing fastest among adults under 40, particularly young women.

A 2024 analysis published in JAMA found that 162,439 young adults ages 18 to 25 received at least one dispensed GLP-1 prescription in 2023. Women accounted for 76.4% of those patients, although the analysis included medications prescribed for both diabetes and weight management.

PATIENTS TAKING WEIGHT-LOSS DRUGS OFTEN MAKE 5 CRITICAL MISTAKES, DOCTOR WARNS

Separately, the 2025 Monitoring the Future survey found that 2% of students in grades 8, 10 and 12 reported using a prescription GLP-1 medication, while another 2% said they had used one without a prescription.

A recent feature in The Cut, "The Secret 'Ozempidemic' on Sorority Row," argues that GLP-1 weight-loss drugs have quietly become part of campus culture at some elite universities, particularly within the competitive sorority recruitment process.

Three female students interviewed under pseudonyms said they were using compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide to improve their chances during rush and to meet an increasingly thin beauty ideal.

The students described a pressure to look extremely thin, noting that social media and weight-loss competitions among friends have fueled increased GLP-1 use.

"For many young women who have just arrived on campus, thinness feels like the ticket into the best possible college experience," one student said.

"I didn't realize that someone who was 19 and also not super-overweight could get on it. I was like, ‘I gotta hop on,’" another said.

One former sorority recruiter said, "It's like, 'Well, there's no excuse for people to be fat because they could just get a GLP-1.'"

‘Cosmetic shortcut’

Jay Campbell, longevity and peptide expert and bestselling author, said that while these drugs were built to solve a metabolic crisis, they've been "hijacked as a cosmetic shortcut."

"For someone who's metabolically dysregulated, they are a genuine medical intervention," he told ӣ��Ƶ Digital. "But to a 20-year-old sorority member with a normal BMI, they look like an aesthetic hack in a syringe."

"Sororities are built on social visibility and constant comparison," Campbell said. "Everyone is looking at everyone's Instagram."

"When one girl drops 15 pounds in six weeks, that news spreads through the sorority house faster than any diet fad in history, because the results are fast, dramatic, and don't require the discipline of nutrition or training."

College-aged women already tend to have "high body-image sensitivity," he noted, which is heightened in the age of "a full-scale social contagion."

OZEMPIC USERS MAY BE MAKING A MAJOR WEIGHT-LOSS MISTAKE, NEW STUDY SUGGESTS

"Many of these young women grew up already fighting disordered relationships with food and their physical bodies, and [now] you have a medication that can play on their insecurities."

That’s not to say GLP-1s don’t benefit many patients. In clinical studies of people taking the medications for obesity, fat mass generally accounts for more of the lost weight than lean mass, Campbell pointed out.

"The peptide isn't catabolic by itself – the real risk is that a healthy 20-year-old who isn't obese has far less metabolic and muscular reserve to lose from in the first place."

When a young woman loses weight rapidly without consuming enough protein or doing resistance training, she may lose a greater proportion of lean mass, Campbell warned. Rapid weight loss can also contribute to the facial or body changes sometimes referred to as "Ozempic face" and "Ozempic body."

5 steps college students should take before starting a GLP-1

For college students considering a weight-loss medication, Campbell recommends taking the following five steps before beginning treatment.

No. 1: Know whether the medication is medically appropriate

"If you're not obese or metabolically compromised, ask yourself honestly why you're taking a medication designed for a disease you don't have," Campbell suggested.

No. 2: Protect muscle during weight loss

While muscle loss is preventable, it requires work that most people using these drugs for cosmetic reasons aren't doing, Campbell said.

"That means real protein intake, not a protein bar as an afterthought, and resistance training," he advised. "Skip both, and you will absolutely lose muscle tissue that you cannot easily get back at 20 years old."

While adequate protein intake and resistance training may help reduce muscle loss, the amount of lean mass lost varies from person to person.

No. 3: Understand fertility considerations

"Fertility matters here in a way most college students never think about," Campbell said.

GLP-1 medications should not be used for weight loss during pregnancy, experts agree. Semaglutide labeling advises stopping Wegovy at least two months before a planned pregnancy.

Tirzepatide has been shown to reduce the effectiveness of oral hormonal contraceptives during treatment initiation and dose increases, so the FDA advises using an alternate method for four weeks during those periods.

No. 4: Discuss mental health and eating behaviors

Mental health still deserves attention, particularly for young adults with depression, anxiety, eating disorders or a history of using food to cope emotionally.

While the FDA has found no increased risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior from GLP-1 medications, patients should tell their prescriber about any new or worsening mood symptoms.

No. 5: Recognize the limits of long-term data

"Nobody knows what 10 or 20 years of GLP-1 use looks like in a woman who started at 20 with a normal body weight, because that population barely existed in the clinical trials," Campbell cautioned.

"Consider this a reminder to stop treating a powerful metabolic medication like a lifestyle accessory."

While GLP-1 medications can suppress appetite, Campbell added, "they will not fix a broken metabolic foundation or whatever underlying reason a 20-year-old feels she needs to lose weight in the first place."

"We’ve built a pharmaceutical shortcut that used to require months of behavior change, and young women in high-visibility social environments are early adopters of anything that changes how they look, fast."

Campbell stressed that treatment should involve a qualified prescriber who evaluates the patient’s medical history and goals, provides appropriate monitoring, adjusts the dose as needed and helps manage potential side effects.

Since October 2022, I have anchored a TV show called "ӣ��Ƶ @ Night."

Monday to Friday, from 11 p.m. until midnight Eastern time, we cover the news that matters, interview compelling guests, and debate the hottest issues. And we do it all in a lively, fast-paced hour of plain-talk television, sending viewers off to bed with a solid grasp of what’s happening in the world and a smile or two as their heads hit the pillow.

It’s a modern show, and I don’t just mean the little @ sign in the name. I’m talking about our whole approach to the news. We boil it down and sort it out. We jump right in. And this last one is important: We call BS whenever it’s warranted. Which is often, given all the crap that’s floating around out there. And every night, we include a segment that has become the most memorable 75 seconds in our hour-long show. It’s called the Common Sense Department, and nothing I do on television brings me more joy.

TRACE GALLAGHER: COMMON SENSE IS ALIVE IN AMERICA. WE JUST NEED TO LISTEN

Every night, I pick something in the news, and I put it through my own filter of hard-earned common sense.

You know how TV news works. Every time a major news story breaks—especially a political one—the spin machines start cranking at maximum volume. Suddenly, you’ve got a "panel of experts" flooding your screen, telling you that what you just saw with your own two eyes isn’t actually happening. They’ll look you in the face and insist everything is "deeply nuanced" or "incredibly complex." But let’s be real: Most of the time, it’s not complex at all.

My job is simple, even if it’s harder than it looks. I react like a normal, intelligent person who’s been around the block a few times, seen the games people play, and isn’t buying the nonsense anymore. You see it, I see it, and we’re going to call it exactly like it is. That’s why we call it the Common Sense Department.

And how do I do it? That’s easy. I rely on the commonsensical lessons I can pluck from my own life and the lives of the people around me. The wisdom I was raised with. What personal experience has taught me along the way. The values of family, faith, sports, community, history, and patriotism. Insights drawn from stories exactly like the ones in this book. Just like life, it’s every-thing mushed together before it’s run through one person’s admittedly quirky brain.

Mine.

What a rare treat it is! Every night in the Common Sense Department, I really get to be me! And the viewers keep saying, "Give us more."

I know this from the ratings. I know it from the social media comments and the emails. I know it from the people I run across when I’m out covering stories and just living my life. And I know it from the mugs.

Yes, the mugs. At one point, we printed up some coffee mugs with the snarky slogan, "DID I OFFEND YOU WITH MY COMMON SENSE?" People couldn’t get enough of them. We keep needing to print more. Thousands and thousands and thousands more. The way things are going, our sarcastic call for common sense has really struck a nerve.

As I mentioned, our Common Sense Department segments are seventy-five seconds long. Not two minutes, not one minute—always seventy-five seconds. And that’s no accident. One time, we tried doing the Common Sense Department in a minute. It felt like a wind sprint. Another time, we said, "Let’s do two minutes." It felt like a drive across Texas with kids in the car.

"No, we’re NOT there yet—and we’re not stopping at Buc-ees!" That’s one of the great things about common sense. You can pack it into the TV equivalent of a carry-on bag. It isn’t too bulky or hard to handle. And whenever you happen to need it, it’ll be right there.

I am not the first person to become a big fan of common sense. Thomas Paine beat me to it by almost 250 years.

Of all the Founding Fathers, Paine is one of the most unlikely and least understood. If you’d known him back in England, you never would have thought he’d amount to much. He washed out as a schoolteacher. His tailor shop failed. He was fired from his job as a tax inspector for "claiming to have inspected goods he did not inspect."

He had to sell his house to avoid debtors’ prison. He really, really hated taxes and wrote a pamphlet op-posing them. When an American named Benjamin Franklin showed up in London in 1774 as a voice opposing British colonial rule, the two men struck up an instant friendship. It was Franklin who urged Paine to move to Philadelphia, where the American said revolution was in the air.

The former Super Bowl MVP came over and racked up 173 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.

How one Indiana city went from skeptical to serious contender for Bears' new stadium

When the Chicago Bears kick off against the Minnesota Vikings for their 2026 home opener on Sunday, it will mark the start of their 55th season at Soldier Field. It also may be the last. Hammond, Indiana, certainly hopes it is.

The Bears announced in June that they were moving forward with stadium development plans across state lines in Hammond, Indiana. This isn’t the first time the Bears have talked about moving to Indiana, as there were discussions in the late 1990s, but none were serious.

Now? The discussions are as serious as Ben Johnson saying he wants the Bears to have the highest-scoring offense in NFL history. Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. said that while the city has been preparing for this, even he didn’t think the work would eventually lead to Hammond potentially becoming the next home of the Bears.

"We did a lot of things in Hammond and in Indiana to prepare us for this day," McDermott told OutKick in a recent interview. "But you know, I'd be lying to you if I told you I thought that when we were doing this, I thought we'd be the future home of the Chicago Bears."

How Hammond Prepared for This

The Bears completed their review of the Lost Marsh site in Hammond while also doing their due diligence on the Lake Terminal site. McDermott said those potential sites for a stadium came to be through efforts to clean up the area.

"The site that we're talking about right now, if you were looking at it when I first took over, it was I don't think the Bears would have even thought it was possible to locate a stadium there because there was so many different landowners. it was underutilized and it was just old-fashioned, old thinking," McDermott said.

"For the first two or three terms, in cooperation with the state government, we started assembling dozens and dozens of acres and we got it to where we have about 300 acres available."

But even throughout the process of assembling the acreage, it was never done with the thought the it could one day be the home of the Bears.

"I'll be honest with you, never in a million years did I think that we'd one day be the home—the future home of the Chicago Bears. We were just doing it to clean up and hoping that good things would happen and improve the quality of life," McDermott said.

However, acquiring and developing land wasn’t the only thing Hammond did to prepare for the Bears. The state of Indiana has more favorable property tax caps than Illinois, which McDermott said was of interest to the Bears.

"Another thing that Indiana did to prepare for this day was there's a gap from one side of the state line to the other in what it costs to run a household, what it costs to run a business, and in Indiana, we enshrine tax caps, property tax caps, into our constitution. And one of the buzzwords of this whole ordeal with the Bears is property tax certainty, which is something the Bears are interested in, and they can't get property tax certainty in Illinois," McDermott said.

"And certainly in year zero and for the next 30 years, they certainly can't get property tax certainty. And in Indiana, ours are enshrined in our constitution. You can't pay over 1%, 2% or 3% depending on your classification."

Heather Ennis, president and CEO of the Northwest Indiana Forum, told OutKick in a recent interview that Northwest Indiana has seen billions of dollars invested in the region, not including any potential deal with the Bears.

"We're a $52 billion regional economy and we're seeing in the last 10 months over $30 billion of investment committed to the region, and that doesn't even include any of the Bears conversation. So we're really seeing people be bullish on Northwest Indiana and the opportunities that are coming to the region," Ennis told OutKick.

Another thing working in Hammond’s favor? Complete cooperation across the board.

McDermott said he has never seen more bipartisan cooperation in his 23 years than he has during the Bears discussions.

"I'm in my sixth term and I've never seen the coordination across federal, state, bipartisan, Republican and Democratic lines, everybody working in lockstep. And I mean from the U.S. senators in Indiana, both of them are working on this project. The congressman in Indiana who's a Democrat, both U.S. senators are Republicans, the governor is a Republican and I'm a Democrat. And you wouldn't know it at all when you're looking at everybody working so hard on this project," McDermott said

"Governor Braun has been a great leader for Indiana. He is helping Hammond out tremendously. And this is a Democratic city that probably didn’t vote for Governor Braun for governor. So the bipartisanship, the federal partnerships that we have with the state partnerships, you need all that. And quite frankly, we started off on one location in Hammond and sort of changed course a couple months ago and nothing changed. We just shifted modes up here. And I think that impressed the - it was literally a gear shift and we just rolled right with it and they're the customer."

"If this is what the Bears want us to look at, no problem, sir. And we get to work. And it's been very business friendly. I think the Bears would tell you they're very impressed with the bipartisanship and the total cooperation they've received from Indiana."

Why a Move Feels Real

This is not the first time the Bears have considered moving to Indiana. In the late 1990s, they considered moving to Gary, Indiana.

But it didn’t work out, which is why McDermott, among many others, was skeptical that the Bears were serious about making a move this time around.

"I'll be honest with you, I started off skeptical. I really did because we've been through this drill before in Northwest Indiana in the '90s, a similar type of situation with the Bears. The location was supposed to be the city of Gary at the time and that never panned out. And there was a lot of skepticism in Northwest Indiana that the Bears were never serious in the '90s and they're probably not serious now," McDermott said.

"So, I had that lingering doubt, but I'm a mayor. I'm a longtime mayor. I'm an economic development guy. I like to close deals. So, as a mayor, even if you think there's not much of a possibility, you're still going to work your tail off to try to make it happen. And that's the approach I took to it."

McDermott said he was brought in last year around the holidays but that Gov. Mike Braun and the speaker of the House were involved long before he was. McDermott said he had to sign nondisclosure agreements to keep things quiet.

For McDermott, things didn’t feel real until he got a call from a big company that he declined to identify about the potential acquisition of its property.

"When I started to finally feel like this was the real deal, I remember there was a big company in my city," McDermott said. "But a big company called my office and it panicked because they got calls from the state of Indiana about their property being acquired. And that's when I was like, 'Okay.’"

"It was a big company and they were like, 'Mayor, do you know what's going on? Why is the state of Indiana interested in buying our property?' And we couldn't tell them why, but there were a lot of high fives in City Hall that day because that's when it hit me. Wow, this isn't the 1990s. This is a totally different ordeal."

As for Soldier Field, the Bears’ lease runs through 2033, but they can pay a fee to break the lease early. Soldier Field is about 40 miles south of Halas Hall — the team’s headquarters in Lake Forest — and Hammond is about 20 miles south of the team’s lakefront stadium.

Indiana House Speaker Todd Huston was the lead House sponsor of Senate Bill 27, which passed with ease. The bill created a funding mechanism for the Northwest Indiana Stadium Authority to build a future stadium in the state.

Huston said the Bears moving to Indiana would create opportunities that would last for generations.

"This project would be a transformational opportunity for Northwest Indiana. It would deliver lasting benefits across the region and our entire state, building on a foundation that’s already been put in place for the last two decades. Northwest Indiana is experiencing tremendous growth and potential, and an investment of this scale would take that to another level — bringing new jobs and businesses, attracting visitors and residents, and creating opportunities that will benefit Hoosiers for generations," Huston told OutKick in a statement.

"Indiana has created an environment that keeps costs low for businesses and families, attracts investment, supports job growth and expands opportunity. When the potential of this project presented itself, state and local leaders recognized its potential and moved quickly. Building the infrastructure

Becoming the new home of a professional football team means a lot more than just building a stadium and then calling it a day. The city also needs to have requisite infrastructure to harbor tens of thousands of fans, highways and roads for them to travel on.

With Hammond on the southern tip of Lake Michigan, McDermott said the utility infrastructure is already well developed.

"We have a lot of big businesses here. We have industrial businesses here. We have a data center here. We have big users of energy and our infrastructure. Hammond's located just to the south of the tip of Lake Michigan. So, all of the infrastructure, the utilities, the highways, the rail lines go through Hammond. And in a project like this, the fact that the utility infrastructure is already so built up because we're the southern tip of Lake Michigan is helping us tremendously when we're looking at bringing in a stadium because the stadium needs heavy infrastructure," McDermott said.

McDermott said Arlington Heights, Illinois, about 30 miles northwest of Chicago and another location the Bears are considering, faces a challenge in terms of infrastructure, while Hammond doesn’t have that same issue.

While Hammond doesn’t face that same issue, McDermott said the area does need significant highway, interstate and road infrastructure improvements, but it already has a good blueprint.

"Although we're going to need a massive infusion of highway and off-interstate and road infrastructure improvements, there's $600 million built into this deal for infrastructure improvements around the proposed footprint of the stadium. We already have a good blueprint and it's only going to get bigger and better," McDermott said.

Ennis said Indiana has all the infrastructure needed to bring a project like this to fruition, calling Indiana "the crossroads of America."

"We are the region that built America. Over 25% of the nation's steel is built here and in our region, and so we have all of the infrastructure to be able to bring a project like this to fruition. We've got great highway infrastructure connectivity to Chicago. We've double tracked the commuter rail line and have an extension of that commuter rail line to extend down further into Lake County," Ennis said.

"We are truly part of the Chicago metro area, and so that great base of infrastructure that is already here with the beautiful waterfront, the great highway infrastructure, the commuter rail system. There definitely will need to be improvements made to continue to connect these sites to the opportunities that already exist, but other regions around the country drool over the infrastructure that we have here in Northwest Indiana."

For fans who are concerned about the stadium moving from Soldier Field to Hammond, McDermott admitted it’s easier to get to Soldier Field but said there are many ways to commute to Indiana.

"If you're in downtown Chicago, I understand that it was a lot easier to go to Soldier Field, but we are connected by highway. We're connected by water during certain times of year and by rail. It's far easier to get to Hammond and quicker than it would be to get to Arlington Heights," McDermott said.

"And the Bears could build a heck of a lot more stadium in Indiana than they could in Illinois right now because of the financial situation in Indiana versus Illinois. So, if you're a true fan of the Chicago Bears, I think we're going to have a better fan experience in Indiana. I think the team's going to be better in Indiana."

New City, Same Name

McDermott made it clear: The Chicago Bears will remain the Chicago Bears. A name change was never discussed.

"Not even once. There is nothing. Listen, there's some Hammond Bears stuff going around Northwest Indiana, but I'm sure the Bears didn't authorize it. I just want you to know that was never—it's more of a local pride thing," McDermott said.

"Everybody knows the Chicago Bears are the Chicago Bears. That's never been broached by the state government or by the city government. The Chicago Bears are an icon, and there's no way we'd ever ask them to change their name."

The Bears themselves have echoed the same sentiment.

"We will be the Chicago Bears whether we’re in Arlington or whether we’re in Hammond," Bears chairman George McCaskey said in August.

McDermott also made it clear that while many people assume Indiana residents are automatically Indianapolis Colts fans, Northwest Indiana is Bears country.

"I know we're in Indiana. I know everybody thinks just because of our address in Indiana that we're Colts fans. That is not the case. In Northwest Indiana, it's the Bears, and probably the Packers are probably the second most liked team. The Colts are probably third in the region where we're talking about right now, but it's Bears country. So, like I said, I want the Bears to be good this year because everybody's happy when the Bears are good," McDermott said.

Where Do Negotiations Currently Stand?

The Bears scored 59 points in their Week 1 win against the Carolina Panthers, dominating in the red zone.

Using an analogy in which a touchdown means the Bears are officially moving to Hammond, McDermott said the ball is currently in the red zone.

"We're in the red zone for sure. So, where are we in the red zone? I think the only people that could answer that is Mr. McCaskey and Kevin Warren. But I definitely think we're in the red zone and there's a lot of work going on, and it's hard to punch the ball into the end zone, and that's where we are right now," McDermott said.

"When you're in the red zone, the defense is tightened up and everybody's shoved into a little box and it's even harder to score. I think that's where we are right now, but we're going to punch it in."

McDermott said the ball is in the hands of McCaskey and Bears President Kevin Warren and that things are out of his control.

"The ball is 100% in their court. So, I try not to make promises. I realize this is not in my control. I hope that it's done sooner. I hope that the Bears choose Hammond and we start moving forward, and that's all it is really. It's hoping," McDermott said.

"But, you know, the Bears are going to do it when they're comfortable, and if they're going to invest billions of dollars into a piece of property, they got to be very comfortable that what they're doing is the right thing, and that's what they're doing and I don't blame them, you know?"

Ennis said while landing the Bears would be great for Indiana, the Bears should feel just as excited about choosing such a booming area.

"The Bears would—we would be lucky to have the Bears come here, but they would be just as lucky to locate here because we really have our act together and our communities are really working in lockstep to make those investments happen. Working together with the state, you know, across the entire platform to really make things happen," Ennis said.

As a Bears fan, McDermott doesn’t want to disrupt the team and bug McCaskey or Warren too much.

If McCaskey and Warren are anything like the Bears’ offense, they might make it to the end zone sooner rather than later and make Indiana the team’s new home.

Puzzling sound in backyard leads homeowner to massive 1,000-year-old treasure

A homeowner preparing the yard for a new patio recently made an incredible find — and it's been declared the largest known Viking Age silver hoard ever discovered in Denmark.

Officials from North Jutland Museums in northern Denmark announced the discovery on Aug. 31.

The hoard was discovered by a private citizen who was preparing the ground for a new tiled terrace, according to a statement from the museum.

MYSTERIOUS 3,000-YEAR-OLD HOARD WITH VIOLENTLY SMASHED SWORD EMERGES DURING CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

The homeowner, who wished to remain anonymous, called the discovery "the biggest surprise of my life" after stumbling upon the hoard while doing yardwork.

"It should have been just a few hours of hard gardening to remove stubborn grass, stones and gravel in relation to a new tiled terrace," the person said.

About half an hour into the work, the homeowner struck "something that made a strange sound."

The person added, "At first I thought it was old iron or fence wire as well as some potsherds, but when I started digging with my hands, I could suddenly fish one metal object after another out of the ground."

ANCIENT VIKING SWORD DISCOVERED 'STICKING UP OUT OF THE GROUND' AFTER 1,300 YEARS

The individual said that "after a short time of careful work, it dawned on me that it was jewelry, coins and silver bars."

The hoard, which was buried in a clay vessel, is believed to date to the 10th century. It contains around 700 objects and fragments, including silver ingots, bracelets, coins, a small Thor's hammer and various pieces of cut silver.

It's Denmark's largest known Viking Age silver hoard, according to North Jutland Museums.

The find eclipses the previous record holder — a roughly 14-pound Terslev hoard — and weighs nearly three times as much.

Some 320 objects with a total weight of 14 pounds were still in the original clay vessel, while the rest were found in the ground around the site.

The homeowner will not keep the treasure. Under Danish law, the hoard belongs to the state — though the finder is eligible to receive a reward.

The discovery came after archaeologists recovered six Viking Age gold arm rings from the same area earlier in 2026, Torben Sarauw, head of cultural heritage at North Jutland Museums in northern Denmark, told ӣ��Ƶ Digital.

"Almost everything about this discovery surprised me," Sarauw said.

"We did not expect that the same area would also produce one of the largest Viking Age silver hoards ever found in Denmark."

He said the hoard "is remarkable because of both its size and its contents.

"It contains an unusually large number of silver ingots," Sarauw went on. "One ingot bears runic inscriptions that may have been intended to protect the treasure, while others are marked with Thor's hammers and Christian crosses."

He added, "The combination of pagan and Christian symbols, together with the runic inscription and the sheer quantity of silver, makes the find unique."

The owner of the hoard must have been "extremely wealthy and of very high social status," Sarauw noted, though the individual's identity is lost to time.

"The size of the hoard suggests access to extensive networks of trade, exchange and perhaps political power," the official said.

"The discovery also indicates that Himmerland was home to a significant center of wealth during the Viking Age, something we are only beginning to understand."

Sarauw said hoards were typically buried to safeguard wealth during uncertain times.

This treasure may be connected to another silver hoard found nearby several years ago.

"Someone who buried more than 18 kilograms [40 pounds] of silver was clearly concerned about losing it," he said.

"One possible explanation is that the owner died before he could recover his treasure, perhaps while traveling or taking part in an overseas expedition. Of course, this remains a hypothesis, and we cannot know for certain."

There is additional significance, Sarauw said.

"This discovery is helping to change our understanding of northern Jutland during the Viking Age," he said.

ICE-led Florida operation nets 500 — including illegal aliens accused of murder, child abuse, cartel ties

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement partnered with more than five other federal, state and local agencies in a weeklong immigration-enforcement operation in Southwest Florida that yielded 500 arrests.

Caught in the sweep, according to a statement from ICE, were: a Haitian charged with murder; a Honduran accused of molesting children; a suspected Mexican cartel member; a Guatemalan who allegedly tried to use a Taser on an officer during his arrest; and others with accusations or convictions of crimes such as battery, DUI, hit-and-run, domestic violence, possession of illegal drugs, driving without a license, resisting arrest and returning multiple times to the United States after deportation.

From Aug. 24 through Aug. 27, ICE agents teamed up with officers from local, state and federal agencies including the Florida Highway Patrol, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida National Guard, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Deputies said they found Longin fleeing from a neighboring residence and took him into custody.

Then they found a second woman "deceased inside a bedroom, suffering from obvious signs of blunt force trauma," the sheriff’s office said.

The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide.

"My prayers are with the family of the woman who tragically lost her life, and with the survivor who showed incredible strength in fighting to live," Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a news conference.

In another location, after a tussle, officers arrested Noe Lux Castro, 24, a "criminal illegal alien from Guatemala who illegally entered the United States," according to ICE.

During the incident, Castro took a trooper’s Taser and attempted to use it against the patrolman, according to ICE. Castro had illegally entered the United States at an unknown time and location without inspection, the agency said.

He was charged with obstructing a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence and resisting an officer without violence.

The sting also brought into custody Olmen Noel Vargas-Mendoza, 40, "a criminal illegal alien from Honduras," ICE said. He allegedly "illegally reentered the United States without inspection three times and has a criminal history of domestic violence."

Officers also arrested Marlon Rolando Calderon-Castellon, 43, "a criminal illegal alien from Honduras," according to ICE. He "illegally reentered the United States without inspection and has a criminal history that includes battery and illegal drug possession."

Carlos Humberto Monzon-Cabrera, 53, is "a criminal illegal alien from Guatemala," who was arrested during the operation, according to ICE. He "has a criminal history that includes battery and multiple convictions for operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. He illegally entered the United States at an unknown time and location without inspection."

Hermenegildo Andres-Juan, 52, is a "criminal illegal alien from Guatemala," who was brought in during the surge, according to ICE. He "illegally reentered the United States after a previous deportation and has a criminal history that includes driving under the influence, resisting arrest, hit-and-run and public order crimes.

"He illegally entered the United States on Jan. 10, 2025."

Also arrested was Armando Coc-Yat, 39, a "criminal illegal alien from Guatemala," who entered the United States illegally without inspection on Dec. 4, 2018, according to ICE. He "has a criminal history that includes arrests for driving under the influence and hit-and-run.

"An immigration judge issued him a final order of removal on Nov. 16, 2021."

Rigoberto Vargas-Resendiz, a 52-year-old "criminal illegal alien from Mexico," also was among those arrested, ICE said. He "illegally reentered the United States without inspection three times," including on Dec. 9, 2018. An immigration judge issued him a final order of removal on May 26, 2011.

Also arrested was Daren Ruiz-Mejia, 37, a "criminal illegal alien from Venezuela," according to ICE. He "illegally reentered the United States without inspection" on April 5, 2016 and "has a criminal history that includes driving under the influence of liquor."

Melchor Perez-Garcia, 31, "is a criminal illegal alien from Guatemala" who was arrested in the operation, according to ICE. He "illegally reentered the United States without inspection and has a criminal history that includes driving under the influence, resisting an officer and obstruction without violence."

Officers also caught Samuel Mateo-Francisco, 33, "a criminal illegal alien from Guatemala" who "illegally reentered the United States without inspection on three separate occasions," including on Oct. 31, 2023, according to ICE.

"The continued success of these weeklong operations is a testament to the power of unity and our shared commitment to community safety," said Matthew Elliston, of Enforcement and Removals Operations (ERO) for ICE.

"Working hand-in-hand with our state and local partners, we have successfully removed more than 500 illegal aliens from our streets, ensuring a safer environment for all," said Elliston, the ERO Miami interim field office director.
