5 trucks to look for in 2013
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Analysts predict truck sales are going to explode in 2013, thanks to an improving economy and a slew of hot new products that are on the way. Here are a few of the most anticipated models.
GM's big pickups are getting a full reboot this year with all-new chassis, more refined interiors and a fresh lineup of engines including the automaker's latest 6.2-liter small block V8 that it promises will be the most capable in class. Read more about the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra
On the other end of the size spectrum, Chevrolet is rolling out a new midsize Colorado pickup truck even as its Detroit competitors abandon the segment. Already available overseas, details on U.S. models are still sketchy, but four-cylinder turbocharged and diesel engines are possible, along with the likely V6. (GM)
Ford's long-serving E-Series van is finally being put to pasture and replaced by the Euro-style Transit, which will come in three different lengths and with a choice of V6, twin-turbocharged V6 and five-cylinder turbodiesel engines under its stubby (but not little) hood. Read more about the Ford Transit (Ford)
The fuel efficient Transit Connect has been a surprise hit for Ford, so much so that a redesigned model is on the way this year with two wheelbases to chose from and both cargo and seven-passenger wagon versions. Read more about the Transit Connect (Ford)
Chrysler's Ram truck brand is also getting into the mini cargo van game with a rebadged and yet to be named version of the funky Fiat Doblo, which is to be imported from Turkey, not Detroit. Read more about the Ram "Doblo" (Fiat)
Jeep has something cooking, but won't say what it is, other than a remark from a company executive that "we’ll give our customers the opportunity to do something very special with their Wrangler that they’ve never been able to do before.” Could it be a Wrangler conversion kit along the lines of the totally awesome Mighty FC concept? Hopefully we'll find out before the end of the year. Read more about the Jeep Mighty FC (Jeep)
